The moment James felt the knife wriggle in his hands, he simply turned his shoulder toward the assassin, and let his manipulation actually help him slide the knife out. No mess, no fuss, sometimes the simple solutions were the most effective. Not that he let it simply fly out of his hand, James kept a firm grip on the dagger even as it fought, pulling it back to his side with ease.
Seasoned warrior that he was, the martial artist didn't even flinch as the assassin pulled out what looked like a pistol, knowing that firearms were banned from the tournament. The ensuing smoke worked both ways. James could feel which direction his opponent was at judging from his positioning just prior, and from the direction the daggers were pulling in.
Dashing forward, just before breaking the smoke cloud, James threw the weighted combat jacket, arching it up so it'd land over Nov's head, blinding him, and while the assassin was distracted by that, he'd break through the cloud and bring his right hand up from below to smash into the assassin's chest, under his guard, James's fingers outstretched in a claw, Tiger Style.
The dagger in James's jacket was embedded pretty solidly, and in attracting it back, all it'd do is help ensure Nov's vision being blocked by the piece of clothing it was stuck in.

The four foot gap Nov had created earlier now proved to be his saving grace. Nov watched as his foe broke through the now dissipating smoke to throw his jacket at him. The jacket would expand, like a large cloak, to reveal where his prized dagger lay in it's form. With it in sight, and with the help of the fact the entire weight of the jacket was no longer atop of it, Nov was able to mentally pry the dagger from the jacket, and watched as it returned to his holster.
As this happened, Nov would barrel backward with another diving roll, akin to the one he did earlier in the match. The only difference was the dive was exactly at the 6 o'clock (assuming right in front of him was the 12 o'clock). The dagger would follow to his holster throughout this motion.
This maneuver, as he soon realized, would prevent the surprise attack his foe had attempted as soon as his roll had finished. Nov landed on his feet and would then begin to move backward as he felt the knife in his holster again. It was a comforting feeling, to have one of his prized weapons back, and he stopped messing with the one James had at this point.
"Thanks for the dagger back!"
Nov would exclaim as he took steps back to further widen the gap between the two fighters. The gap was now perhaps 10 feet, assuming James didn't continue to pursue. Regardless, Nov would alter his pace accordingly to keep himself at said distance. His eyes never left his opponent as he moved, and his hand kept at the dagger at his right side throughout his motions. Judging by the way his foe attacked, he was a hand to hand combatant at heart.
Now that he had his dagger back, the next stage of assault was going to begin. If James wanted hand to hand combat, he was going to get it one way or another...
TL;DR Nov would be able to pry the dagger out of the coat once the coat had expanded. As described, the jacket was already vulnerable to piercing damage, but have the weight of the jacket atop and lack of vision of the dagger would make it difficult to guide back. Once seeing the dagger, Nov would immediately barrel back with a diving roll and clear distance between him and his opponent.
James's lips curled upwards in a feral grin. How predictable his enemy was.
In that one moment Nov lost sight of James during his backwards roll, the daemonslayer kicked off, adding an insane burst of speed to his dash, the water behind his feet billowing in the wake of his Tiger Step technique. His left arm swept infront of him to catch and sweep his jacket out of the way, and when Nov got out of his roll, he'd find James too close for his liking.
Far, far too close.
Right ontop of the assassin, James ignored the pain in his right shoulder as he swung down with his right fist with all of his might, in an overhead strike meant to slam into his surprised opponent before he could recover from his roll and carry him into the floor, where the daemonslayer would pin him down with his body weight, right knee on Nov's chest, and proceed to gut the assassin's throat like a pig with the man's own throwing dagger.

"Seems you want to die young..."
Nov said with a smirk, despite the fact he was in an apparently unfavorable situation. His left arm shield was the only one still close enough to his face to block the overhead strike as Nov was crouched. He was in no position to do anything other than lift the left arm to block the slam. And all it did was launch him to the ground where his legs were sprawled. His hand that was near the returned dagger would come to his face as he knew what was coming next.
James would be able to mount him in the shock of the moment, but the moment his knee came to his chest, Nov would do one thing and one thing only. He would slam his left fist into the sides of the knee cap. It looked like a rather desperate attempt to knock the knee off him...
But upon contact, a large thick blade would come out in such a fashion that the 8 inches of hard steel would penetrate through the sides of the knee cap entirely. It went through both sides of the joints and bones of the knee while severing several tendons in the process.
The blades would go in and out in the matter of seconds, but his left arm stayed perhaps a moment longer as Nov gave a little twist with his left arm blade to make sure the damage was done. The shock from this sort of assault was something not many had the stomach for. And Nov kept his right hand shield covering his torso to counter anything thrown at him in his attack.
While doing his stab, Nov would adjust so that his left foot was stepping on his foe's left ankle at the achilles heel. He'd then thrust his hips to shift the warriors body weight forward into him. With the knee now in such a fashion that it was probably barely usable for anything, his foe's balance would be likely unable to handle such a motion. Should his foe be thrust forward as he planned, His right arm would now reach for his foe right hand with the dagger as his left would punch into his foe's bare stomach where yet again the 8 inch blade would penetrate.
He's use the momentum of these motions to roll unto the right and force his opponent to use his now potentially useless right knee to hold balance. This would cause Nov to be on top. Should the stab to his foe's stomach land, he'd use the force to aid him slip his opponent.
He should've put on that damned jacket before jumping on him....
TL;DR Nov would be able to narrowly block the overhead blow with his left hand. This would knock him to the ground where James would mount him. But the moment the right knee mounts Nov, he hits the knee at the left side of the cap with his left arm. The 8 inch blade would penetrate through and be twisted while inside the knee's joints and sensitive areas. Meanwhile, Nov will thrust his hips to force his foe's weight forward while his left foot would be stepping on his foe's achilles heel.
Nov would then thrust his hips forward to force James to lose balance and land directly atop Nov. He'd then reach for the dagger in the (presumed) right hand with Nov's own right as his left hand would punch the stomach for another stab. This sequence would happen as Nov would begin to twist to the right to put himself on top
Arcane power welled within James, the daemonslayer making use of that latent energy he had sensed in the tranquilty of their surroundings before the fight. The power flooded him, and gave him strength, and the bloodthirst he needed to see the deal through.
"Die young?" his mind echoed.
"Yes"
As Nov's left arm barely blocked James's punch, his right fist opened up, and gripped a hold of it, pinning the hand and wrist down up by the assassin's head. Even though his right arm was weakened, with his weight behind the move, and with no leverage to fight against it, the assassin would be unable to mount any sort of effective counter, and if he really still wanted to pop out the armblade, it'd just be stabbing himself in the head or throat.
Sealing the assassin's movements and efforts to throw him off, James proceeded to shank the man under him repeatedly, and with contemptuous ease, his bloodlust up and rage burning hot. The first strike went to the assassin's right elbow as his hand and buckler was up trying to guard his face, crippling it, a second would go to the upper part of his right arm. And a third to the ribs, and a fourth, and a fifth, if they were all allowed. The slayer would not stop until the victim below him stopped screaming, stopped moving, or both, letting the river run red with blood.

The moment James grabbed Nov's wrist, he'd do what he instinctively did when a limb came within short distance of his knuckles. His blade popped out immediately. Though James' wrist was covered by his armored gauntlets, the blade would act as a wedge and a smooth surface to thicken Nov's wrist and weaken the oncoming grip. If he could help it and the force of the retracting blade was enough to force James's hand away, he would recoil his arm back. If not, Nov would have more room, thanks to the thickness of the blade acting as a buffer between James' wrist and Nov's hand. The force of the push, however, was enhanced by an incredible might that he couldn't resist, and he was forced to the ground. However, with his hand forced to his face, the blade would prove more useful at that moment. Nov's left arm lay across his chest as the blade would cover his face as a shield of sorts. The forearm shield providing protection to the neck and torso as that side of his body was forced to close quarters.
This peg would prove to provide a defense he needed, and would allow his right arm arm leeway to attack. He would, the moment he hit the ground, attempt to slam his right arm into the right side of his foe's kneecap. This would stab the sensitive region, filled with vital tendons and joints for balance and mobility, of the pivotal right knee that lay atop Nov. At the same time, Nov would dig his left heel into his foe's bare left achilles heel and pop out a blade from the heel of his boot into the bare tendon. His mobility, should these two attacks land, would likely limit his foe's mobility by a large margin.
Now came the first stab to the right elbow. His foe, since the dagger was in the left hand, would have to reach across to stab the joint. He was mounting with his right knee and having his right arm pin Nov's left would make it difficult for a truly swift attack. Though the attack was noticeable and telegraphed somewhat due to the distance that his foe would cross, Nov's right arm was likely 'busy' with his foe's right knee and didn't have time to maneuver.
Nov did still have control of his dagger since it never quite returned to him. He didn't have the strength/magical prowess to alter the course of such a stab drastically, but perhaps enough to alter it the few centimeters such that the armor piercing blade would penetrate into the buckler rather than the bare joint at the right elbow. He would likely have enough mental capacity to do so, and the blade, should it hit the smooth shield, had a chance of penetrating. If it did, James would find it incredibly arduous to remove the dagger as both his mind and the shields rugged and enchanted construction would ingrain the dagger in a manner similar to what James' jacket did with his other dagger. Except his shield was much thicker and enchanted such that it wouldn't be quite as easy to remove. It would penetrate enough to perhaps draw blood, but not enough to be seriously crippling at that moment.
And then came to push. Nov would dig his left heel deeper into his foe's left achilles tendon and push his right foot off the ground as he trusted his hips and torso as high off the ground as he could. This would jerk his opponent upward, and Nov would clutch his opponent with his right hand. His right arm using the now fresh hole in the side his foe's knee as he twisted his foe over. His foe never entered a full mount, and the combined attacks to the sensitive regions of the legs would make such a move far easier.
He would turn his foe Jui-Jitsu style and slam him into the ground right of the initial mount. Should this work, he would remove all grips and back away from his likely immobile foe with his remaining throwing knife aimed at his bare stomach. Should his foe try to keep close quarters still, stabs from Nov on both of James's ribs would come in rapid succession.
TL;DR Nov would pop his wrist knife when James took grip to have the blade act as a buffer between his bare wrist and James' hand. It would make the wrist harder to grip, and when his left hand was pinned to his face, act as additional shielding of sorts as the blade would cover portions of his face along with the buckler.
Nov would then stab James's knee with his right arm, which was free since his pinned left hand was now shielding his face and portions of his face and chest, at the previously posted location. He would, at the same time, dig his left heel into James' left Achilles tendon to limit his mobility and balance on the one leg mount. This would be one smooth motion that would likely happen within seconds of being taken to the ground. However, the stab to the right side of the knee cap, should it land, makes his elbow and right arm vulnerable for the first stab James takes at the right elbow.
James' dagger is in his left hand and he doesn't have a full mount. Meaning, with his right arm reaching across to pin down Nov's left, it would be somewhat difficult and telegraphed for James to stab. (I can draw this in a diagram if I REALLY have to)
The stab to Nov's right elbow would likely be altered the mere centimeters necessary for the dagger to be placed in Nov's shield. It would penetrate, but be stuck there in the same fashion as it was stuck in James' jacket earlier in the match. But Nov is using mental ability to keep the dagger in stasis as it has 'returned' to him.
With this in place, Nov would use his grip on James' wrist and now fresh wound hold on his knee to rotate his foe on the ground and take the top position. Should James try to keep close to Nov when he is jerked forward, he'd be stabbed again by the right arm. Otherwise, Nov would back away with extreme haste.
OOC: And keep in mind, that this sequence of events has changed numerous times for both fighters. The first mount post was without a pin. The second was with. And since the style of take down changes, the style of response Nov takes changes as well. And it was edited since I did make a mistake with the use of my gauntlet
No, Nox did not stab himself in the face. The way I'm imagining it, he's guarding with a standard parallel position with his hand, so that means the blade, following the line of his forearm, will have its flat side facing his face. You may continue.
