Personally, I think they did a pretty good job for the time they had. I can see exactly why they left out the things they did and I think they did spectacularly with the things they didn't.

1) Cho and Harry kissed in the book. I reread the pre-Christmas meeting of the DA; they combined a bit of the dialog from the bit in Madame Puddifoot's tea shoppe, but it was quite true to the book.

2) What mirror? Sirius' mirror, the two-way one he gave to Harry? I can see why they left that out - I forgot all about it until I reread the book a third time, it wasn't essential to the plot, and the movie theme (the emotional growth of Harry) was not enhanced by it. The few minutes they saved by omitting it would have been much better served by including a few more of Fred and George's antics (I can see why they cut those, but man I wish they'd included more!!)

3) There was a veil - that floaty black thingy hovering inside the arch. Admittedly, in my mind I'd pictured it as an actual black cloth veil with a raggedy hem and capable of being twitched aside to see the world of limbo within, but when I talked to a few friends about it, they said that what was pictured in the movie was exactly how they'd pictured it in their heads. It's all in your interpretation, after all. ((And I heard through the grapevine that while JK Rowling has affirmed that Dumbledore is really dead and won't be coming back, SHE HASN'T SAID THE SAME ABOUT SIRIUS. So I'm on tenterhooks for the seventh book - I can't wait to find out if Sirius actually comes back in HPDH!))

I just really wish they'd included St. Mungo's. sad I was looking forward to seeing Neville's parents in the flesh, as it were. But I'm thrilled how they're developing his character :bounce:

Ok, well, hmmmm. I am sorry Angelina, while I sympathize about your feelings about the movie, I NEVER go into a movie with the expectation that it will be like the book. So I really enjoyed the movie. I respect what they had to do to fit it into 2 hours and 18 min. What they did made sense and the movie was very well paced with respect to action and development. Darn good job! I have only read the book once, not that long ago, but enough that I forgot about the mirror. Maybe Bellatrix could have been more of a worthy opponent, but I guess they didn't have that much time.

I agree with Golden and Uma... 3nodding When I first watched The Sorcerer's Stone, I thought of the same thing, that a lot have been ommited from the book..I think the movie like to portray a heroic Harry Potter who can slay dragons and defeat Voldermort..not the Harry Potter that we see when we read the book..the emotional changes of a teenager that Harry and the other characters are feeling looks uneccessary to the movie plot...

That's why I still prefer the book..it's nice to imagine what they look like though, that's why I watch the movie..so that when I read again, a more concrete image comes to mind...like Harry's face...

I know this is old, but I'm actually going to agree with the OP.

Frankly, I was just angry that Luna stole all of Ginny & Hagrid's lines. ;; But whatevs.

Being more positive, I think the best movies of the series so far have been the first, second, and sixth. I was pleasantly surprised by the latest installment, because I thought they had been going down hill. Only difference being that in the movie I was glad ******* was killed off in the end, as opposed to crushed like I was in the book. I never adapted to that actor's interpretation of the character, I guess. But that unbreakable vow scene near the beginning. was. perfection. Sweet, syrupy perfection. <333

The unbreakable vow part was very cool indeed. And I really liked this last movie.
