Ha! In the end the thing hadn't been fast enough to evade the huntress. Quite pleased Sheshe'kani made her way back to the den that she shared with mate and children, though it was most likely the children were out doing their own thing these days. The dead hare hung from her jaws as she carried it almost carefully back to the den. She'd been working hard on her hunting skills, and finally mastering the large prey it was the small ones now that she tried to bring down. In the end she had luck on her side to catch this prey, but tomorrow she'd go out and try again.
Bushido would be happy, she was sure. She was able to provide a meal for her mate, something to eat.
"Bushido?" She called ahead, curious if he'd made it back yet.

 It had not taken the dark lion long to fall asleep. Tired from his nighttime patrol, he had not questioned the empty den, assuming his children had already begun their days. Accustomed to the absence of his children, expecting them to follow their own paths as they grew in adolescence, the absence of his mate was however unexpected.
It was a cherished end to every day, to find his mate waiting for him, beautiful in the morning sun, always there when he returned. It was colder in her absence, and yet he did not begrudge her, certain she must have gone out early that morning, perhaps to tend to one of their five daughters, or maybe to practice her hunting. A smile had crossed his maw at the thought, was she aware he knew of her attempts?
An ear flicked, jaws parting in a yawn, blue eyes opening as the call touched his sense. Maned head rose from his paws, gaze settling on the familiar figure, a soft smile breaking through the haze of sleep.
"Good morning."

"I brought you breakfast, love! Or... dinner, however you want to look at it." A small sheepish smile, Kani set the hare down at his paws in favor of nuzzling her head against his with a greeting purr and lick to his face. "I hope that your patrol went well. I didn't mean to wake you if you were already asleep."

A soft purr, his own muzzle brushed against hers in gentle affection.
"I would gladly wake from any sleep to see your beautiful face."
The smile spread across his maw, purr rumbling in his chest, for the moment more intent on greeting his mate than on the meal she had brought him. The day had ended as it should after all, in the company of the lioness he loved. How could he have ever thought it would be otherwise?
The faint rumble in his stomach had brought his attention back to the prey at his paws, distracted by the scent that met his nose. It was a pleasant surprise, a morning meal from the paws of his mate. So she had been practicing her hunting after all, apparently she had gotten good at it, not that he would ever think she couldn't excel at whatever she put her mind to.
"This looks wonderful, would you like to share it with me?"

"You should eat it, Bushido, there's really not much..." She admitted, settling down next to him directly so that their bodies touched. "I would be glad to keep you company though." She purred, grooming at his mane a bit out of secondary habit by now. She loved this male so much, he was everything to her, was her absolute everything. If the world were to turn it's back on them tomorrow, as long as she had Bushido at her side she was sure she could deal with that and anything else thrown their way.

His head rested against hers, eyes closed in a peaceful smile, his larger form curling against hers, cherishing her warmth, holding dear each precious moment. With her he felt complete, lost in happiness, as if nothing could ever break them apart. He had felt it since the night they had first met all those nights ago, a love that had only grown stronger with each passing day, with the life and the children they had shared.
"I don't mind sharing."
Gently he licked her muzzle, his purr a constant soft rumble. Though his stomach called for food, longing to savor the meal, it was his mate that held his attention, perhaps a stronger desire catching his senses. For now he simply wanted to be with her, to enjoy her touch, to cherish each breath they shared, each beat of their hearts.
"I love you, as I always will."
It was an urge to say the words, one he could not refuses, as if his chest would burst if he held it in. Why, he did not know, only that it needed to be said, that the words needed to touch her ears.

"I know, but Bushido, I won't. You eat it. There's hardly anything to it and I'm really not hungry. Later I'll catch something larger and we can share, but you've just returned from a long night."
She offered a small smirk, so soft that it was clearly not an expression she normally used, and clearer still that even when she did it was lacking in any form of malice or true sarcasm. It shifted into a smile, and instead of making the quick witted comment she originally intended Kani shifted gears, turning the words to be sweet, as was much more like her.
"Besides, your love is all that I hunger for." She purred back as she shut her eyes, nuzzling back against him with her muzzle before licking his nose.

A soft sigh, a gentle purr, he simply rested against her in silence for a moment, tail flicking lightly at his paws. It may have seemed he would have fallen asleep as he was, at peace in her company. Companionship, love, happiness, it was all he would have ever asked of her, and in that he too found all the happiness he could have ever hoped for.
"I would like that, or perhaps we could hunt together."
His head fell to rest on her paws, muzzled tucked against her chest, ears twitching at the sound of her heartbeat. It was then his senses reminded him he had forgotten her gift. A precious gift, he cherished it a moment longer before surrendering to the touch of hunger, head turned to feast on the small hare.
It was true it was a small meal, but it filled his stomach nonetheless, the perfect end to a long night, or beginning to a new day.

Sheshe'kani smiled, nuzzling back with a heavy purr before he began to eat, at which point she settled for resting her head over his shoulders so that he could eat in peace and they'd maintain contact.
"That sounds good to me too... After you've rested." She chuckled, nuzzling him softly again.

He chuckled lightly at her words, licking the remnants of the meal from his maw. There was a hint of mischief in his smile, tongue suddenly darting to lick her nose, a paw raised in a playful bat.
"Of course, but only if you stay with me."
His body shifted, rolling onto his side, leaning into her, his head turned to look up at her with another playful bat at her nose, even as a yawn parted his own maw. He supposed he was tired, though the night had not been longer than any other, so long as she was at his side, the games could wait until later.
His head fell to rest again on his paws, shifting until he rested comfortably on the stone floor, his body pressed close to hers. May they stay as they were forever, an eternity at her side, souls forever at peace as the moon and the stars.

As Bushido ate Kani picked up with grooming him, starting with his mane. "I'd never dream of being anywhere but with you." She smiled. "What are you in the mood for...?" She purred then with a sudden edge of mischief in her voice. Weather she still meant food, or something else now was hard to say.
