You are an ordinary person, doing ordinary things. Maybe you’re a student, maybe you’re a teacher. Maybe you’re a businesswoman, maybe you’re a housewife. Maybe you’re a soldier, maybe you’re a thief. Age, race, nationality, background… none of it matters, once you’ve been recruited.

Recruitment

It all starts innocently enough. Maybe you were walking through a mall when someone asked if you would do a survey; maybe you sign up for some experiment at your college for extra credits or cash; or maybe you’re being assigned to some kind of experiment as public service in return for a reduced sentence for some felony. However it happens, you end up taking a personality test on a computer somewhere. Nothing strange about that, except that maybe you think the test is a little peculiar and in-depth… and possibly, if you happen to be doing it with others around, you notice that everyone else seems to be having problems with their computers….

A few days after that, you are approached by a stranger. Depending on your personality it could be man or woman, young or old, well-dressed or trashy. They pull you aside and tell you that you were tested, and you passed with flying colours. They tell you that you have an opportunity to serve your country/people/world – whatever your personality test dictates would work best to convince you – but it will require a major sacrifice. If you are willing to give up your life as you know it forever, and embark on an adventure with a chance to make a real difference – they tell you, while handing you a card – then go to the address on the card. But only go if you are willing to give up everything, for the chance to start out new, and begin a new life, and make a difference.

Maybe you think about it for a few days, or maybe you go right away… but eventually you go to the address. It’s an ordinary building with a bored security guard at the desk, and when you show him the card, he points you toward an elevator that says: “Out of order”. You step in, and the elevator works, and it takes you down….

Crossroads

The elevator takes you down several stories, and then opens into a featureless room with a single door.

When you step out of the elevator, you hear a voice: “You are now at a crossroads. If you turn around and go back in the elevator, you will be taken back to the surface, and you can go about your life as it is now – and you will never, ever hear from us again. If you enter the door ahead of you, there is no turning back. As far as the world is concerned, you will disappear. you will never see your friends or family again. You will start a new life, with a new identity. And you will have the chance to make a real difference in the world. But remember, there is no turning back once you step through that door.”

Maybe you think about it for a while, maybe you step through immediately. As you approach the door, the elevator door closes and the door in front of you opens. Your choice is made.

Welcome to the Project

The next room is a featureless white circular room with a single chair in it. As you step in, the door closes behind you. Maybe you wander around, maybe you go straight to the chair. When you finally sit in the chair, the lights dim, and a video starts playing on the wall.

“Welcome , to the Foxfire Project.

“You have been selected out of millions of tested applicants throughout the world, because of a special gift you possess – a unique empathy with a special kind of technology that only one in a hundred million people possess.

“You were given a personality test, which used the test to assess your personality and see if you were fit for the program, and how we should approach you. But we were also testing something else. You see, the computer you were using was broken. Normal people would not have been able to get it to work, no matter how they tried. But you did, because of that unique gift you possess. The same gift allowed you to operate the broken elevator in this building to get here.

“We need people with your gift. We are developing a team to defend this world against an enemy whose capabilities and scope you cannot yet imagine. To that end, we are taking special people like you, and implanting them with technology that will not be available in stores for over a hundred years from now – and only people with that special gift will be able to blend with that technology, human and machine, to become something greater than both.”

At about this point, you notice that your arms and legs feel heavy… in fact, you can’t move them much at all.

“The operation will begin immediately. You are already receiving the anaesthesia in gaseous form. when you wake up, you will no longer be completely human. You will be something more.”

The words start sounding like they are coming from a great distance, and the room blurs, and finally, you pass out….

The Jungle Camp

You come to in a bamboo cage in some anonymous tropical forest, with a strange girl in the cage next to yours.

“You’re finally awake,” she says, “My name’s Jane. Welcome to the reject pile.”

The operation failed, she tells you – for you and for her, and for everyone else in this place. This is where they get rid of their failures. She says she came with four others, and all were taken. She heard gunshots. She says none returned.

Just then a couple of soldiers take from her cage as she kicks and screams, and drag her out to a field with a ditch a little ways away. Then, as you look on – maybe you’re screaming, or maybe your frozen with horror – the soldiers line up, aim, and fire. Before your eyes, Jane falls back into the ditch.

Then they come for you.

Maybe you kick and scream, maybe you accept your fate mutely. They take you to the same spot they took Jane. Then they line up. They take aim.

Maybe you close your eyes. Maybe you cry. Maybe you try to cover yourself with your hands, or curl up into a small ball. Maybe you stare defiantly. But whatever you do on the outside, on the inside your mind is screaming: “I don’t want to die! Not like this!”

They fire.

After a few moments, you realize… there’s no pain. You look down at yourself, and something is different. Your body has… changed. Where there was flesh before, there is now bio-ceramic armour. Maybe you can even see a few smoking scuffs where the bullets ricocheted off.

One of the soldiers who just fired at you steps forward and nods. “Activation accomplished,” he says. Then behind you, Jane stands up in the ditch and walks around to fall in next to the other soldiers, and they all salute you together. “Congratulations,” the leader says, “That was the last test. You are Foxfire.”

Onward to Foxfire

They lead you from the fake execution field and take you to a room, where they give you a uniform and tell you to relax. Maybe it takes you a few minutes, maybe it takes you a few hours, but finally you calm down… and your bio-ceramic armour withdraws so you take on human form again.
Once you are back in human form, they whisk you into a black helicopter with no windows, and fly you away.

You land at a state-of-the art facility on some unknown island, where you are told your training as Foxfire will begin. You are given a duffel bag with your uniform and supplies, and told what your room assignment is and how to get there. There you will find your fellow team mates, who are all just as confused as you are, waiting in their dorm rooms, for answers.

as promised, here is your sneak preview - your chance to prepare your application before the rp is actually made.

Roles available:
Foxfire (Mecha musume)
  • Trainee (see recruitment post)
  • Instructor (a former trainee that has gone out and seen action, either as a combat personnel, or a spy/special operative, and is now too old for active duty, or injured and on permanent/temporary leave)

Human (Regular person)
  • Instructor (a soldier or special agent who is training Foxfire in their skill)
  • Base support person (someone who works on the base, anything from cleaners to cooks)

there are no civilians around. the base is private, everyone there is either foxfire or some kind of soldier helping out with the training. not everyone has to be female - humans can be either male or female, but foxfire are all female.

not all of your profile will be publicly visible. some will be visible only to instructors.

here's the application form:

Application Form
Gaia User Name:
Name: (First and last please.)
Rank: (If you're a trainee, don't bother with this, you're Officer Cadet. If you're a Foxfire teacher, you will be Lieutenant Colonel, Major, Captain or Lieutenant (or equivalent ranks from the Navy, like Commander, Lieutenant Commander, Lieutenant, Sub-Lieutenant - or equivalent ranks from other countries, like Wing Commander and so on). If you're a non-Foxfire teacher, you may be an officer with the ranks above, or you may be enlisted. If you have any questions, just ask.)
Role: (Most likely Trainee, possibly some kind of Teacher.)
Age:
Recruited from: (Where you are from - and where you were picked up if that's not the same place.)
Appearance: (Picture and/or description.)
Alternate form: (As specific or as vague as you want - anything from "tank" to "M1A2 Abrams SEP w/ TUSK in NATO tri-colour and a yellow smiley ball on the antenna". Has to be realistic though - nothing science fictional like Gundams and so on. Of course, this only makes sense for mecha musume characters.)
Distinguishing features: (Anything that anyone would notice at a glance.)
--- THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WILL BE CLASSIFIED ---
Personality:
Biography: (Any relevant personal history, especially anything that would be on record.)
Personal info: (Any information the Project might have on you that they might think is important.)
