How about we somehow incoperate a solar/lunar eclipse into the RP?

I mean, just before, during, and after the event magic acts weird an stuff.

It would also be a nice time to kick off the astrology class...

an eclipse? GUH!?

It might be fun to say that during unusual lunar/solar situations (ie eclipses), magical beings are incapable of using their powers..

and then madness can ensue. MWUAHAHA

I wasn't exactly talking about a complete wipe of magic for the duration of the eclipse....

But a definate hiccup...

Basically, spells cast would have a tendency to either not work, work exceedingly well, or work miserably.

Take a simple fire spell, you want to scorch a combat dummy.

Each time you cast the spell, one of 4 things could happen.

A) spell fizzles
B) Spell works as intended
C) Spell works, but would only cause enough flame to light a candle.
D) Spell works, and you scorch the combat dummy, and the one beside it, and the one beside that one, and the wall of the nearest Dorm building, and you smell of soot and have no hair on your body period.

No magic can cause havoc, crazy magic causes even more so. 3nodding

So if/when this occurs, would we use the Gaia dice roll to determine how each cast spell acts?

Would the teachers know enough not to use spells or to teach theory lessons that day?

How would Edwards condition react to the loss of sunlight?

Would chronic powers such as telepathy or empathy fluctuate or react consistently?

Would the problems only occur during the eclipse itself? or for some period of time before and after?

How long do these events last?

Could the eclipse affect trigger reactions from magically enhanced objects?

How would the forest react?

1) it would be up to the person posting to simulate the randomness. A person could roll dice, or merely just choose wether a spell was cast correctly or not.

2) The teachers would most likely know. And would probably explain it to the students. If there is an Astrology Professor, then they might actually take time to go in depth into how planetary alignments affect magic, and the importance of the Eclipse.

3) Edward's condition is not based upon wether there is light or not, its based upon the difference between night time and day time. An eclipse at noon isn't going to change Edward into feral form.

4) Telepathy and other passive magic would fluctuate, but not on a grand of scale as casted magic. In other words, you may accidentally broadcast your surface thoughts to other people, but you aren't going to cause everybody migraines, or learn their deepest most secrets.

5) The problems would begin to occur just before the eclipse, escillating till the actual event, then begin to fade.

6) Not sure, but I'm guessing for about 5 minutes, with a total time where magic is affected equalling 30 minutes.

7) Yes and no, generally most magic on items require a command before activating (whether it be mental or audible) Magic items with passive effects might experience some fluctuation, but generally doesn't change the effect that much. Fragile magic objects may break because of the flucuations though. (Fragile like fine glass, crystal, or anything else that would be ill effected by some kind of resonance)

cool I dont know, probably nothing will happen from the forest.

I'm not the final word on this event though. Especially with the forest.

I'm going to say that chronic magic would NOT be affected.. because if we're saying an eclipse affects magic, it makes sense that it would affect casting magics as those pull on the area and nature around the caster... whereas chronic magics (such as telepathy) is more internal.. and that wouldn't be affected.

I say yea on the dice though, makes sense.

I don't think magically enhanced objects would be affected because the magic used to power them was cast long before the eclipse.

I've never liked forcing people to roll for things on RPs. It seems as if the person is doing less RPing, and more playing a game of luck.

Course this is just my opinion.

Second, in order to determine the roll of the dice (on Gaia that is) you have to post before you find out about it.

One question...

When do we want to try to run an eclipse? I'm thinking that it should be sometime after the Elemental Earth Class and Ancient Runes class.
