Apart from classes, I've got a job now, and it sounds like its going to eat up my afternoons.

Also... Some of my friends have started an Epic DnD game, and i'm working on a character for that.

Epic characters are a ton of work by the way, especially Wizards.

"Sorry, can't do anything until X does something..."

Seems to be a popular phrase around here. Actually, this is one of the reasons why I believe that using other peoples characters is a must in an RP like this. I've discussed this in another thread, so I won't bring it up here again.

Actually, apart from RL-issues, one of the reasons why I'm not very active here is that nothing happens storywise. Actually playing out every single line in a class isn't very interesting, it doesn't get the story going. The outing in the forest with the wolf was a good sidetrack since things happened and everyone involved posted at a good pace. A class however is not very engaging since the classes are not what a school-story is about.

Take any random manga or anime set in or around a school. Lectures are very seldom seen there since it is implied that the students have them. The life around classes is the interesting bit. Even in Harry Potter, classes are only used to either further the plot or explain something important. I do understand that some people enjoy the classes and that the teachers put a large amount of work into making them good, but obviously the RP is stagnating because of them and maybe we should try and find another way.

How about this?

1. Every teacher makes up a rough outline of the class and what it is about. It would look something like this:

"This class focuses on how to create and control small winds. Excercises will include blowing a candle out, moving a piece of paper along a small obstacle cource and lifting a ball from the ground using wind only. You might notice that the teacher seem a bit absentminded at times."

2. If anyone wants to do something special, that person writes a starting post about it. Only things out of the ordinary should be posted, such as someone fainting from exhaustion or a surprise attack from poisoned zombies. Things like:

"The ball moves a bit at first, but the balance of the airflow isn't right and it slips. After a few tries, Hayana gives up."

are not very special and shouldn't be posted. The fact that someone did good or bad in a class might be important in a situation later on, but it should be noted then - perhaps in a flashback - and not in a meaningless post nearly mimicking the last one made. Instead, a post could be made that says:

"So, how did you do in wind class?" Aki asked in a cheerful voice. Hayana looked into the ground and answered: "Not very good, I'm afraid. The candle was pretty easy, but the obstacle course was a nightmare and I could hardle even move the ball."

The same thing is said, but in an interactive context which makes it more interesting. Focusing on the interaction between characters would liven up this RP quite a bit I think. So far, many people are focusing on developing their own characters outside of the social context, which will create many stories in the same setting but with only one or two characters in them.

3. If noone posts in a class, just let it slide away. It will be assumed that everyone attended and did their best, unless something else is said later on.

4. Let the interaction begin! When sitting in the dining hall, the latest class can be discussed in a social context, thereby furthering relationships and story. Exactly how Hayanas obstacle course went is not very interesting, but finding out why she can't take her eyes of that new guy is.


Just some random thoughts. If they help we might get this thing back online, and if not - well, at least I posted something, right?

I don't know her from any other place than here, I hope she's allright. Still, it seemed she had a lot of stuff to do IRL. Maybe she's just stressed out and needed a break.


It's not. I think this RP just had the same problem as most RP:s do - no set goals. We just wanted to have some fun and be literate while at it, but since different people have fun in different ways even the best RP can stumble.

I'd say we need to talk about where we want to go with this RP. I for one am not very interested in detailed descriptions about having a class, I want to focus on stuff in between. What do you guys want to do?
