On May 3rd 1979, in a small town in Portugal, a baby girl was born. Her destiny was written in the stars because she would become one of them. But to get there she would have to fight and believe, that was the only way.
Five years later, the girl was still an innocent child, full of happiness and with a smile that illuminated everything around. It was a real smile, not a fake one like we see in the magazines. Unfortunately, it slowly went away into the deep waters of her mind.
Lala, as I call her, used to be extrovert and happy but, as she lost her innocence, she discovered a very different world, perhaps too soon. While the other 9 year old kids were still joking around, playing, without realizing most of it, she already knew too much. This because kids can be cruel with their words and Lala grew up too fragile and shy to stand up. She didn't try to change the situation because she never thought she could, that was what she told herself, to suffer less.
But not everything was bad. Lala had friends and a protecting family who cared about her and, most of the times, she would just forget those little problems.
But let's see how everything happened from here onto the future:
Lala's at 4th grade. She's in the same class as her friend Isabel and her neighbor (who she can't stand) Rui. At her school, students must wear a uniform. Girls must wear a "sailor outfit". It looks cute but Lala is rather sick of it, she wants her own stile after 4 years wearing the same. Rui's cousin used to be a friend too but she just moved to another town so Lala hasn't heard of her for some time.
Lala's dream is to become a singer but she never told anyone. She really wants to learn how to play the piano but as she's too shy no one knows. Oh and one more thing she wants to a long, straight, black hair when she's older (a.k.a. when she doesn't have to do what her parents want), this probably since she was 5.
Anyway life is going well and she's finally at 5th grade. As soon as she knows she's going to another school, she throws her old uniform away and gets herself a new stile, her new uniform. From now on it's just jeans, trainers and shirts. She completely got sick of skirts (although her parents make her use them once in a while).
At the new school Lala doesn't know what is waiting for her. Her old class used to be really united and everyone was really nice, so she's hoping everything can be like that too in her new class. Her best friend is going to a different school so Lala feels lonely since the person she trusts the most and plays with isn't going to be there anymore. That way Lala will have to talk more and make friends, otherwise she's just going to be alone.
School already started some months ago. Lala tries to fit in the new class but she feels as she's always pushed away. She still has no good friends except for Rui, who ended up in the same class as her, again. But he's usually playing with the boys.
There are 3 girls who get Lala's attention: Catarina, Marta and Filipa. Lala's first impression is that the first two are very quiet and shy, like her, but seem nice and have a lot of friends so she wants to join their "group". But soon she realizes how manipulative and fake they are and she stops. By the time she comes to this conclusion she's already at 6th grade. Meanwhile two girls who used to get on her nerves became her two best friends and the ones she hangs out with. They're Raquel and Daniela. Raquel has a lot in common with Lala but sometimes her personality just collides with Lala's and they argue. Daniela is the total opposite of Lala and seems to only have the high, weight and name in common, but even this way, she's a really dear friend. Lala has one problem though: her friends don't seem to get along with Rui, at all. Everyone is always saying stupid, immature things, just because Rui and Lala are good friends, you know, things like ""look at those two, that's going to end up in marriage"; "So much love…"
Because of all these jokes Lala gets away from Rui and they only talk when no one's around - at home.
Lala's at 7th grade now. She's already 12. Her passion for music starts rising and rising and, when she finds herself alone, she often loses herself singing and dancing, without realizing time passing by.
Lala is also getting even less confident about her appearance, all because of some comments from stupid boys. She's also insecure because of her friends' constant jokes calling her a "nun" just because she doesn't care about boys. It's not that she's a nun but Lala think she will have time for that later and, right now, she just wants to live life as she can without getting stuck in relationships like them.
And quickly she's at 8th grade. She's 13 and is starting to realize how people know her so little. They just know the outside and think they know everything. How wrong they are. She gets really angry about it and often explodes when her friends say stupid things about who they think she is. Lala turns more and more into music and specially its lyrics.
And the decisive time has come. Lala's 14 and is at 9th grade. In the end of the school year she'll have to decide what she wants, which area to choose to go on with her studies. But this will be a year of changes. She realizes more and more how oppressed she is and how that makes her keep all her feelings to herself. She always looks the same despite the fact she doesn't feel ok. This makes her feel worse and worse with time and she knows she has got to do something before she explodes so she turns into writing. She may not be the best but, somehow, it makes her feel better.
Then, one drastic change. She decides to start being different and let her real self out. It works and the teachers notice it, because she's not the teacher's pet anymore, the one everyone thinks is perfect, and she loves it!
By the end of the year Lala can already stand up to some things but still isn't as strong as she looks. Maybe because a lot happened, a lot that she didn't forget. You se, she discovered someone so close to her loves her and she spent the whole year consumed in doubt whether she loved him or not. It's Rui who I'm talking about. Their friendship became weird after these events but they still talk as before.
The time has come to choose a path and, because of her parents, Lala doesn't choose what she wants. She's really revolted about it but accepts, as it is her only chance. Rui's going to the same area and school so they'll probably end up in the same class, again!
Daniela and Raquel go to Lala's house and tell her about a singing contest between their school and their school's rival school. The winner will get the chance to make a record with one of the best labels of the country.
Lala's class organized a goodbye hang out, they're all going to the mall, buy some stuff and make a party at the school's gym. But at the mall they meet a group from the rival school. Both groups start arguing and Lala doesn't like it at all. She's ready to go to the middle of them and make her class stop. When she gets there, there's already another person from the other side trying to do the same. His name is Hiroya. Lala doesn't know how many times she's going to hear this name again. Both groups separate and everythin ends well.
Weeks later Daniela and Raquel are again at Lala's house telling her about the winner of the singing contest. It's a 16 year old boy from the other school. His nam is Hiroya. Lala remembers that name but doesn't remember where she heard it.
