My Reincarnation I am born. I am nothing but a frail, fuzzy ball, dependent and vulnerable in my newborn state. My mother nurtures me, cleaning me as I purr my approval, teaching me how to live the life of a cat. As I mature, I spend my days in ease, as if a queen, my mom bringing me food while I bask in the searing summer sun, the rays glistening and shimmering off my fur as if deflected by gold. As summer fades into fall, my kittenhood slips away as if a dying spirit, but endings are also beginnings. My keen hearing and agile movements dictate my life now, ensuring my protection from the cold-blooded, heartless Old Man Winter. As I watch each day rise and set with the sun, I grow older, preparing for motherhood, another initiation into another realm opening with the first signs of spring. The cycle of life brings forth the new as the world awakens from its hibernation. My kittens grow with my blanket of protection and sustenance wrapped snuggly around them. As if looking back in time, I watch my babies romp as I once did with my siblings, playing hide and pounce in what was once my favorite resting spot-my place of safety, ease, and frolicking where the tall grass concealed its occupants giving them the element of surprise in an attack or cover from an imaginary enemy. All at once, the memories are pushed back to the recesses of my mind as my adoring litter pounces upon me, waking me from my reminiscing. And so my life goes, freedom, strength, and love being my morals through each of the succeeding years until the day my spirit passes with the seasons...
