Akouji: (All So Far)
I've decided to post all of what I have written so far at once...so...

AKOUJI: PROLOGUE

Tap, tap, tap. My feet barely touched the branches before i was airborne for the next branch. Every time I was in the air, I heard a tap from behind me. Ganuma.

I was tired, for I had been jumping through the trees day and night for 3 days, trying to outrun him. I knew that my only chance was that if I was strong enough, I might outrun him. But, that chance was gone now. I had to land.

I knew if I did land, I would not be able to hide, so my only option was to fight. A clearing appeared straight below me, so I jumped half as hard and landed with a light crunch on the leaves.

Ganuma landed and I instantly got prepared: I shifted my body so that I was diagonally aligned with him, my muscular arms were outstretched with the palms facing upward. I knew that I was taking a chance, since he had seen this stance before. I quickly bent my knees and slapped the ground with both hands and focused, calling my minions, the shadows, to me. I slowly stood up, still concentrating on the dark balls in my hands, shifting back into my original position.

Ganuma did something quite similar, and at first I thought he had copied my technique. But as I watched him prepare, I realized this was the exact opposite. He had created a counter to my technique, or at least what he thought was a counter: He began in the same position as I, but instead of hitting the ground, he stretched his palms toward the moon. A ball of white, and what I knew must be moonlight, gathered in each of his hands. Finally, when he had spheres as big as mine, he shifted back to his... my... our fighting position.

Without waiting, without hesitation, Ganuma angled his right palm toward me, and a tendril of light came from the full moon, straight at my face. I simply held the ball of darkness in my right hand in it's path, and when it hit, the tendril disappeared and my dark ball got smaller. I concentrated, and the sphere quickly grew back.

I could understand why he thought this technique was a counter to mine, but I was the only person from our village who truly understood the darkness. True, shadows disappear where there is light, but light is also the cause for shadows appearing in the first place.

I didn't want to hurt him, and knew he was studying my technique, so I did what I knew he would stop, and what I knew would have no effect. I angled my hand towards him and sent a shadow scurrying across the ground straight at his thick, masculine legs. As I knew he would, he blocked it in the same way I had blocked his, doing no damage.

This went on for three hours, until we were both exhausted.

"What do you want, Ganuma?" I said, knowing the answer, but wondering if he knew already, too.

"Really, it is quite simple. Why did you run?" Ganuma answered with a hint of sadness in his low voice, not moving, but for his mouth, from his stance.

I had been wondering the same thing for days now, as i ran from his footsteps. The truth was, I was scared.

"I was scared," I said, wondering if that small sentence would cause him to realize that I meant no harm. It did, I knew, because after a few seconds of thinking about what I had said and what it truly meant, he put his arms down and shifted his body, so that he was standing straight, and the moonlight floated back to the sky.

After seeing this reaction, I slapped my hands together, then on the ground, causing the shadow energy that I had been concentrating in my hands to disperse back to it's regular place: to the opposite sides of the trees from the moon, into the houses a mile behind me, and under the four feet standing in this clearing.

"Thank you, Ganuma," i said with relief. "I'm about to fai-"

Now, he pounced, arms outstretched, straight towards me!

His arms were outstretched, right for my face. Without my Shadow Minions, I was less than powerless. I closed my eyes and counted down the nanoseconds, waiting for the inevitable.

Three...Two...One...

I felt a light tap on my forehead, and was pulled back, downwards by some unseen force...

Was this what death felt like?

Was I going to Heaven or Hell?

As these thoughts raced through my mind, I became more and more parallel to the ground, still being pulled down by this unseen force.

Finally, I landed on the...

BODY?!?!

I felt hard abs under my back, heaving in unison with the COUGH, COUGH that was coming from beneath me.

Did I land on the Lord?

Was Satan okay?

"COUGH...hahaha...COUGH," I heard between the loud weezes. "Wow, seven years really changes people, huh?" It was coming from beneath me in a deep voice. "You used to counter that all the time when we sparred as kids!"

"Wha--" I said, obviously stunned. "But, I thought--"

"That I was attacking you? Get real. You know you could never lie. I would have known if you had been lying, and would have said it out loud. I do have honor, you know. I wouldn't try to kill someone who was telling the truth." Ganuma said in a sly but truthfull tone, still coughing from the impact of me landing on him. He had simply grabbed me, and when I didn't react, we had both fallen down.

"It had nothing to do with the fact that I was unarmed?"

"Actually, I didn't think that you were truly unarmed. Why did you stop using other styles besides your Shadow Convergence? You would have been dead right there," he told me, and I knew he was right.

"I just...stopped. I don't know why. I guess it was too much work."

"That coming from you, the guy who discovered the secrets of the darkness by age 11, when none of our scientists could? Come on, I know that can't be the reason. You always do the most work out of everybody!" He was right, but it was hard to tell him.

"Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just, I thought that, since I was the only one that understood the darkness, nobody could beat me. By using other techniques, I was just weakening myself..."

"What?!? Weakening yourself? Giving up and running away is what makes you weaker. Speaking of which, why did you run from me?"

Oh, boy. I had been trying to avoid this question, but now it had come...

"Okay, fine. I guess I have to start at the beginning... My parents were..."

AKOUJI: CHAPTER ONE

My parents were philosophers, as you know. The best in the world, in fact. They had philosophies about everything; socializing, civilization, how the mind works. They knew almost everything. I wanted to be just like them.

At first, I didn't understand any of the things they would talk about. "As life goes on, so do the wars between good and evil, city versus countryline, Goths versus Preps, Darkness versus Light." That was the first of their philosophies I understood, because, when I was seven years old, a war started in the village.

It was not for property, or a revolution against taxes. No, it was a fight between the "Goths" and the "Preps." The Goths were outnumbered, because most of the village goers were selfish and arrogant, just because they had more money. They had expensive guns, while we, the Goths, had knives and crossbows.

My parents did not want to partake in the war, for they did not have hate for poor folks, like the Preps did, nor for life in general, like the Goth's did. They were one of the few "Neutrals" that were at home, acting as if nothing was happening. They did not like my choosing a side, but they had always supported my actions. once I joined the war, I noticed they became a lot more tense.

One day, I was in the campground as we were preparing to attack. I was making sure all of our crossbow bolts were nice and sharp. Suddenly I heard commotion coming from about ten yards behind me. I looked back, and fear struck like a bullet. I was paralyzed as I saw a white-shirted man bend over and take a wallet from a black-clothed comrad of mine.

He opened the wallet and, upon seeing the plastic photocases flip out, exclaimed, "What? I'm sorry, man. I didn't know..." He then looked at me, stiff and starring. His eyes got big, but then I noticed his eyes wander down to my feet, where the bolt i had been sharpening was laying. "Ah! Scared, are we? well, just my lucky day," he said as his fingers reached into his pocket, and pulled out a gleaming silver-and-black pistol.

He took aim, and his finger began pulling the trigger...

Am I going to die?

I'm only nine years old!

My somewhat short life passed before my eyes, but it wasn't as people say. I didn't regret anything. In fact, I was looking forward to dying, looking forward to getting away from the problems that could be solved by people using their own thoughts, and not everyone elses.

This all happened in the 25 nanoseconds that it took him to pull the trigger, and as I heard the gun click, a figure toppled the man...

"Wha-- I-- where--" I just couldn't seem to get the words out of my mouth as I saw my mother on the ground, struggling with the attacker. What I was trying to say was, "What are you doing? I can't believe this! Where did you come from?!"

The two were struggling to get on top and beat each other senseless, but the man was a lot stronger, and tired my mother out in ten seconds flat. She was tired, but still doing her best to survive. The man pushed her off of him and grabbed his gun.

Just then, my father came from the same building my mother must have come from, but he was smarter; he had a sword.

He, however, had the odds against him. he was 10 yards away with a short range weapon, while his opponent, the attacker, had a longrange weapon, ready to shoot.

and that is exactly what he did. With one shot, my father was pierced in the dead center of his heart. He kept running though, determined to save me...

and missed. He lunged, but he was already swooning from the bullet wound, and was off by five feet at least. He fell to the ground after zigzagging for 20 more feet, and my mother rushed over to him. She put her hands over the wound and closed her eyes. She then got up, face red, with the sword in her hand...

SHE WAS PISSED.

She screamed loudly, charging at him, but I could tell that she still had her wits about her; she had the sword in an actual sword fighting stance, instead of flailing it wildly. I saw the man raise his gun. His finger pulled the trigger ever so slowly in my mind, that the screaming became very low, and i could actually feel the vibrations.

The gun made a loud BANG, and I thought that my mother's life was gone. But in one swift movement, my mom actually deflected the bullet, and, while keeping the movement going, sliced diagonally at point blank!!!

The man was already pulling the trigger again. I don't know if he was trigger happy or what, but he wasted no time with two more shots.

Sword came down...

The gun banged...

They were both standing still...

NOW FOR THE NEW PART...

AKOUJI: CHAPTER ONE, PART FOUR

The man fell. His nose dug into the ground as his body gave a loud thud. My mom looked at me weekly.

"Mom!" I yelled as I rushed over to her, happy that we were alive. I hugged her, but those feelings soon subsided when I remembered Dad, lying on the cold floor, dead. I looked over, and his death played through my head like an old video.

"Mom, I'm sor--" I stopped as I felt her lean on my chest, and I could feel her weight about to pull me down. I felt something wet soaking through my clothes, causing my shoulder to shiver. "Mom, we are gonna get through this. Don't cry," I said, but there was no response.

"Mom?" I said as I lifted her head off of my shoulder. It was then that I saw the Crimson streak running from above her left eye, down her nose, around her mouth, and dripping onto my shoulder.

"MOM?" I yelled, in denial, although at the same time, I knew that it had happened. the streak was still running, and as my shirt became soaked with blood, I screamed. I screamed my loudest, so that somebody could come and help. I yelled until my lungs were flat. I ran out of breath, but kept screaming.

As the lack of air caused me to faint, I heard footsteps running in the distance...

Hmm, my comment didn't appear. Well, I did like the drama in this chapter. Very descriptive.

    4.5 out of 5

Why is he always counting nanoseconds? Is he super fast or something? The power over darkness is cool!
