i love playing guitar
it makes me feel better when i'm sad
to be able to express my feelings through music
it's just an....amazing(for lack of a better word)....thing to be able to do
and since school's started, i've been taking another class there (for beginners)
the reason is that i've been having issues with note reading
and i thought this class would help and i would get better with the note reading
well you see....
it has helped with that
i guess
but the teacher...is the worst music teacher of anything i've ever had
and i've had some pretty awful music teachers, trust me when i say that
(i've had a fair amount of them, too, can you say around 15?)
well instead of teaching us to love the music we play and play from the heart and express our feelings through songs
he says
"practice this and be able to play it solo by the next class time"
he teaches that it's all in getting the notes and rhythms exactly correct
oh sure that's pretty good to be able to do everything perfectly
but what fun is it when you aren't playing around with the piece at all
he says
"play exactly what is on the page"
no improvising
wtf
"play this exactly correct"
nonono
music is not about getting everything correct!!! at all!!!
well i take that back
it is about getting the notes right
at times
my other guitar teachers (i've had about 4 previous ones)
all taught me how to play what i'm feeling and from the heart
not just reading meaningless notes on the page
i try to explain to the others in the class that guitar does not suck that much
but i can't convince them
so today in class they were trying to make us sing, right?
and the class is kinda divided into little groups (just the way we're sitting) and i'm with one other person mm'kay?
so he was getting us to sing this song (which was religious as hell might i add)
and it comes around to my group
"erin, why aren't you singing"
"i really don't sing like this for people"
"well erin, you'll never be a good musician if you don't sing"
"i'm already a decent musician and i don't sing"
"do you really want to be in this class"
*under my breath*"been asking myself the same question"
"what was that?"
"yeah i guess, i love playing guitar more than anything"
"do you just not want to sing or can you not sing"
"i dunno, i just don't feel comfortable singing like this"
"why?"
"just don't"
"i didn't graduate from NIU because i didn't sing"
"that's great, i guess i'll never graduate from NIU"
"erin, i'm going to need to talk to you later"
"awesome"

i didn't want to sing
so because i don't feel comfortable singing in front of people i'm going to fail
isn't that fab?
ugh
that man is a total p***k and i'm pretty sure he hasn't seen a shower in years
and he stares at my boobs
the disgusting *****
(he's like 40+, probably single {{no wedding ring}}, a big jerk no one likes, smells like BO, and stares at a 14 year old's boobs, yeah)
i think you get my point
i hate him
and so does everyone else
and i have a hard time practicing any more because when i do i remember that awful teacher
he is really killing my love for the guitar
practicing has become a drag and i do it little as possible
i can't play as freely anymore
because of him
i hope he doesn't kill it completely
