The Notebook
Emi's journal, full of random ramblings and maybe a poem to two.
Another long awaited chapter--the tenth part of a story
In the misty light of the cold afternoon, the gate at Trinity park did not look particularly magical. Pretty, yes. Large, yes. But not magical.

Alek stood before it just the same, drawing some kind of patterns in the snow. He looked out of place, with his tan skin and his dark hair and exotic looks in this winter wonderland. His facial structure just didn't seem to match the two huge sweaters Sharmie had stolen from her brother, or the hat that Margaret had sacrificed for his benefit.

"Is something special going to appear?" Sharmie quipped, clad only in her favourite sweater and scarf. Alek had maintained that it wasn't wintertime where they were going, so winter clothing was unnecessary. They were all freezing, though, since Alek had been drawing things in the snow for twenty minutes.

"Something good had better happen soon..." mumbled Margaret, making footprints in the snow. Holly just looked on happily, sustained by Alek's presence and perhaps warmed by affection for him.

Finally, Alek rose to his full height and spread his arms wide.

"Finished."

"Clever chant," jabbed Sharmie, but Margaret just shoved her so she stumbled and didn't speak again.

Instead of chanting or speaking any other words of magic, Alek created a small ball of blue-white fire and set fire to the lines he had drawn intricately around the gate. The fire ran the grooves like water and came together in the gateway, rising into a large panel that opened before the four of them.

"Follow."

The girls didn't protest, just obeyed.

First to go through was Alek, followed very closely by Holly. Margaret only hesitated a moment, and then she too walked through the fire curtain, much like walking through a waterfall.

On the other side, there was a forest. Warm, dense and fairly dry in comparison to the damp and snowy world from whence they had come. Alek had stopped only three feet from the exit from their world, and so each of the girls bumped into the person in front. Sharmie instantly jumped back and got a bearing on her surroundings, though she was so dizzy from the transport that the world swam. Margaret stood confidently on two feet and Alek supported Holly while she came back to the world.

"Where are we?" Sharmie groaned, doubled over and trying to get the world to sit still.

"Ruin," said Alek, surveying what little sky he could see through the trees. "It's my world, and the place to which your sad world has been attatched in order for D.. Damon, curses, I must get used to using that name, in order for Damon to gain immortality."

"Our world could help him do that?" asked Holly, sounding in awe of the place from which we came.

"Actually, no. It was supposed to be a different world all together, but I tampered in the process and now we can both transport to the world that was meant to be just for him--only it's the wrong one. And that's why he wants to kill me."

"How devistating." The sarcasm laced in her words was so thick that Holly hit her.
