Chapter 8: The Departure











Dear red head kid,
Shame we could not speak face to face but the winds are carrying a stench of death and betrayal within it. My whereabouts are of no importance for now, but what you do need to do is to get as far away from Shahel and find the Crystals of Time. Yes, I do know of the crystals and the dream you had, but we’ll talk about that when the time is right. Blue and Red will help in anyway they can. I’m counting on all of you and be careful.

Roy double read the message before passing it to Matt then to Yuki who stayed bewildered by the message.

“What does it mean?” Matt said as Yuki reread the message and passed it to Roy again who shoved it in his jacket.

“Well, for one thing, Blue and Red means you and me.”

“How would YOU know Yuki?” Matt said sternly

“Obviously, by our hair color Matthew, and at the end of the message he put ‘I’m counting on ALL of you’ Roy isn’t more than one person.”

“Why didn’t he just put our names?”

“Yeah” Roy said “I remember I told him my name when I came here.”

“He probably put hints only we could understand in case someone tried to intercept the letter.”

“Who would want to intercept Masters Letter?” Matt asked as he looked at Yuki doubtfully.

“I don’t know” Yuki said as she took the chicken leg Matt was eyeing for the past chapter.

“M-m-My…”

“But whoever it is, dad will take care of him” she finished as she took a bite.

“NO FAIR! DAMN YOU YUKI!”

“What? Dad isn’t coming, so we can obviously eat.”

“But what I still don’t get” Roy began as Matt started crying “is why I have to collect the crystals of time.”

“I dunno” Matt said tearfully “But what dream was Master talking about?”

“Wait, weren’t we in the middle of YOUR story?”

“Mine can wait, what dream was it!?”

“I, for once agree with Matt, tell us Roy!” Yuki said

Roy explained to Yuki and Matt all that happened the night he and Matt were camping and the dream where the goddess came to him.

“Whoa” Matt said when Roy finished his story.

“So you have to find 9 crystals from each of the sanctuaries deep in this land?” Yuki said as she finished nibbling on the chicken leg.

“Yeah” Roy said “their obviously the only thing powerful enough to stop the evil coming in a years time.”

“Yeah, dad probably knew all this since he told you to look for them.”

“But what I don’t get” sighed Matt “Is how are we supposed to be of help if we have no idea where to start looking!”

“He thought of that too” Roy answered as he took another look at the envelope and found an old map with many X’s on them, nine to be exact.

“It’s the map of our world!” Yuki said as looked over Roy’s shoulder.

“Why didn’t master look for them in the first place then?” Matt asked as he also took a look over Roy’s shoulder.

“Probably looking for the man evil will reincarnate into?” Roy suggested as he folded the map.

“Maybe” Yuki said as she went to the other room and came back a minute later with a lot of equipment in her arms “but we won’t find out the answer sitting around here!”

“Yuki!” Matt gaped as he took a look at all the stuff she dumped on the table “Where the hell did you get all this!?”

“We own a dojo, remember!?”

“Yeah, but chain mail?”

“Dad was in the Clan Wars, remember? Besides, you never know what we might encounter.”

“Sweet” Matt said as he took out a bracelet “Shield Bracelet!”

“Shield Bracelet?” Roy asked.

“It’s a little trinket the let’s us transmit our own magic into these things and produce a shield, but not a huge one, just a small one that let’s you cover yourself from blows” Yuki said as she handed him one “here, there’s one for each of us!”

“A sword?” matt asked as he lifted it.

“Yeah, Roy needs a weapon right? So I got him Edge.”

“Edge?” Roy asked.

“Y-you don’t mean…” Matt began.

“Yup, dad’s old sword!”

“Your nuts” Matt yelled “he’d never allow it and YOU know it!”

“We’ll, we’re going to do something important so I don’t think he’ll mind Matt” said Yuki as Roy continued to examine the blue hilted sword.

“But hold on, I don’t know how to fight!” Roy yelled “I can’t even use magic!”

“Magic is simple Roy” Yuki said “I’ll show you the basics as we travel to find the crystals!”

“And speaking of crystals, I didn’t come here to save some world from evil, or collect some crystals! I just want to save my grandpa and go home!”

“Master probably knows that” Matt cut in “who knows, what if the crystals are the only way to get you and your grandfather home?”

“Yeah” Yuki agreed “But you’ll never know unless you try!”

Roy sighed and looked at the sword Yuki had given him “I hope you’re right, I’ll help out, but when I find grandpa I’m out!”

“Ok, ok, but let’s not continue gabbing, we’ll never leave!” Matt said as he left the room, Yuki and Roy were alone.

“Ok, so you wanna learn magic?” asked Yuki as Roy looked at her.

“I guess…” Roy responded.

“I can’t hear you” Yuki said loudly like a drill instructor “I said if you want to learn magic!”

“Yes Ma’am!” Roy said with more strength.

“Ok, this is a basic trick that all users can use, take a deep breath, concentrate and say your type out loud.”

“Out loud?”

“Yes, only until your body is used to it, then you can unleashed it normally.”

“Ok, let’s see, FIRE!”

Suddenly the room became very hot and a wall of fire surrounded Roy, completely taking him and Yuki by surprise.

“Your magic is fire!? But, the Fire Clan is supposed to be-“

“Extinct?” Roy finished “Yeah, Matt told me, but, I don’t know, that’s my magic.”

“How very peculiar, and your not of this world?”

“Not that I remember.”

“Who was your father?”

“I, I don’t know, I grew up without a mother OR a father, my mother’s name was Belie though.”

“I see.” Yuki said.

Suddenly Matt entered the room with a traveling cloak and a bag on his back.

“Ready!”

“That was fast.” Roy said as he discharged his magic

“All I need is my spear and I’m good.” Yuri said.

“Got it, here” Matt smiled as he through a spear with the symbol of a polar bear on the side.

“Hey Matt, what’s up with the shades?” snickered Roy as he pointed out the sunglasses on the top of his head.

“Oh, these? We ARE traveling the world of Celine, so I brought sunglasses to block out the sun.”

“Did you remember to pack sun block too?”

“Of course I………………………………HEY!”

Yuki and Roy began laughing loudly while Matt turned scarlet red.

“I happened to know for a fact that THESE sunglasses are extremely stylish!”

“haha, we’re only messin’ with you Matt.” Roy said in tears.

“Yeah, don’t take it so personal!” Yuki said as she places the spear in her hip “now if your done packing for the beach, get the keys to the dojo in dad’s room and lock up, Roy, come with me, I’ll search for a sheath for that sword.”

Still in tears, Roy did as he was told and left Matt cursing under his breath in the other room. As they made their way in the main part of the dojo where Roy met Korimaru, the alter where the Time Blade resided was bare.

“Where’s the sword that was on that alter?” Roy asked.

“Dad probably took it.” Yuki answered as she opened a cabinet and took out a sheath and rapped it around Roy’s waist and crossed it on Roy’s shoulder “perfect fit!”

“Wow, thanks Yuki.” Roy said as he placed the sword on his back.

“No problem Roy. Just be sure to take care of it, understand?”

“Yeah, I will.”

“Good, now let’s wait outside for Matt.”

As Roy and Yuki made their way towards the door, a yell was heard outside. Looking at each other, Yuki and Roy ran out the door and into the spring night where to their horror they saw flames blazing through the many buildings and people running away from many guards who did nothing but make things worse.

“What the hell is this!?” Roy said shakily as Yuki looked outraged.

“Those…Bastards think they can come into town and do as they please!?” Yuki growled as she took out her spear and let her magic flow out, surprising Roy “They got another thing coming.”

Yuki dashed passed the little bridge and out the gate followed by Roy who surprisingly had a tough time keeping up with Yuri.
