Chapter 10: The Route to Elmira








It was raining hard in the quiet town of Lionel. The air coolly blew through the trees and refreshed the ground with the water it desired. Not far from the town square, a man under a hood walked towards a pub. Opening the door, he slipped in unnoticed and walked towards the bartender.

“5 stones pass through the ripples of the ocean.” The man whispered under the hood as the bartender continued to clean glasses and not bother looking up.

“Your late.” He said in a bored tone as he blew on the glass and put it away in the cupboard.

“I have my reasons” he said coolly “I don’t have to explain YOU anything, besides, Lord-“

“Shhhhh” Jamal hushed as he looked around to see if anyone was watching them “Don’t say our Lords name so loudly, this is supposed to be a secret organization, remember?!”

“Yeah, yeah” he said as he walked towards the door in the back and open it “They’ll soon fear the name, one day”

As he walked down the hall, he noticed that the sun had set outside by the window on his left. The hallway turned dark, for the sun and the window was the only source of light. He reached the door and let himself in. The room wasn’t as dark as the hallway, for a candle in the middle of a long table shone and gave a dim light. He wasn’t alone either, 8 different people were seated around the table, except one who sat at the far end in a tall chair.

“Your late Dirk” The man in the tall chair wheezed as he glared at him with yellow eyes, he too was hidden under a hood.

“Sorry my Lord, I was un-“

“I don’t want excuses!” hissed the man under the hood “I want ANSWERS!”

The other men around the table looked uneasily at Dirk who began to sweat uneasily under his coat. He cleared his throat and began to say “I-I went to Madame Stella, as you ordered, but-“

“BUT?!”

“When I arrived, she was long gone, as if someone warned her that you would be paying her a visit.”

“Yes, and luckily for you, I SEEM to know the person who warned her…”

“R-Really?!” he exclaimed happily as if he’d won the championships “T-then let me kill the b*****d who-“

“There’s no need Dirk, for you see, your Lord, loves to deal with two-faced people who think they’re smarter than others.”

“Huh?” Dirk said confused “I-I seem to not understand what you-“

“Don’t worry Dirk, it’ll all make sense soon.” The man under his hood said lazily as the others seemed to stop breathing, the room remained ever still. Dirk looked at his master, still as confused as ever.

“Demons of hell, hear my voice as I summon you to the light…”

At that moment Dirk realized what his master was doing. He flung himself to the floor and grabbed the foot of the robes, he began to beg.

“NO MASTER, TWAS NOT I, I WOULD NEVER-“

But his master would not listen, he remained still and continued to mutter the spell
“I call to you, to take my enemies and do as you please…”

“Master NO!!! I IMPLORE YOU!!!”

“Chains of Death!”

At that moment, chains began to wrap around Dirk, causing him to fall. Tears in his eyes, he continued to yell of his innocence and that he wasn’t the one who betrayed his master.

“LIES!” screeched the man under the hood as he stood tall and he glared straight into his green eyes “I gave direct orders to tell the woman that I had need of her powers.”

“B-but master, I-“

“Then you tell her to run and to hide from me, thus making you come late! And don’t even BOTHER telling me it was not you, you always wanted to leave this organization and bring me down, but in those two desires, one succeeded, congratulations…here come the demons to take you away.”

The man was suddenly hoisted from the spot he was laying by two demonic figures, each with long boney hands and a mask covering their faces. They screeched as they awaited their master’s command.

“NO!” He cried, struggling to set himself free, but to no avail. Each of these beings had sunk their nails in his skin, escape was no option.

“Away with him, I have no desire to see his lying face again. See to it that he his punished for eternity.”

With a short bow the demons opened a hole in the floor on which they stood, dragging with them Dirk. Only a small cry for help was heard from him as they closed the portal and left without a trace.














~ Miles away from Lionel, in the fields of Celine ~




“Hey, Yuki?”

“What now Matt?!” sighed Yuki as she stopped walking and turned around to face Matt who was in front of Roy. He had been annoying Yuki since they left Shahel.

“Where the heck are we going?”

This was a good question. Yuki left Shahel without the slightest thought of their destination. Though it was their intention to leave town as quickly and quietly as possible, she never pondered on the statement Matt had said.

“Eh…”

“Oh no, not the eh….”

“Well, what do you want ME to do?! I just left as Marian and dad instructed us.”

“Great…why don’t you roll over and fetch while you’re at it.” Matt said as he rolled his eyes, not bothering to look at Yuki.

“Don’t start with me Matthew, if you think you’re good at coordination’s, why don’t YOU lead.”

“Come off it, both of you.” Roy said sternly as he looked at both Yuki and Matt who soon were going to slam fists into each other “the best thing to do is to find these Crystal Korimaru sent us to find.”

Roy then unzipped a part of his jacket and revealed a map on the backside of his letter.

“With any luck, we can find out where your father is, why they attacked Shahel, and save my grandfather. But, we need to WORK TOGETHER, got it?”

Matt gave slight grunt and kicked up some dirt as he looked at Yuki and forced a smile, Yuki did the same.

“Good” said Roy, also giving a smile as Matt and Yuki closed in on Roy and looked at the map on the backside of the letter.

“Let’s see” Yuki said as she looked at the nine X’s dabbed on the map “the closest town with a crystal would be…”

“There.” Pointed Matt as his finger came across the word ‘Elmira’

“Alright” Roy said shoving the letter/map in his jacket and throwing a punch in the air “let’s get going to…”

“Elmira?” Matt finished.

“Yeah, what you said!” Roy said grinning as he starting walking god knows where.

“Ummm, Roy? Elmira is north of Shahel, so we should be heading in THAT direction.” Yuki stated as she pointed completely the other direction from where Roy was walking.

“Uh, yes, of course!” Roy said embarrassed as he turned around and looked at Yuki.

“How about I lead” Yuki said as she outstretched her arms, Roy quickly unzipped his jacket and gave the letter/map to Yuki, without any complaint.

“Great.” Matt said grimly as he looked at Yuki look at the map and then putting it away in a pouch near her hips “now we’re going to be MORE lost then ever…”

“Come on Matt, what’s the worst that could happen?” Roy whispered reassuringly as he began to follow Yuki who was far ahead.

“Many things…” Matt said sadly “like this one time, we traveled to a town that was just 4 hours on foot to reach.”

“So?”

“We arrived 2 days later…” Matt finished as Roy stopped dead in his tracks and looked at Matt.

“You’re kidding!”

“No, I’m quite serious; a 4 hour trip lasted 48 hours with her guiding the way.”

Roy gulped as he took another look at Yuki who kept on walking in the direction she had first started off, what had he done?

“Ah, don’t worry about it!” Matt began as he saw Roy’s expression on his face change from bright to gloom “We’ll probably be alright, who knows? What if we DON’T get lost?” Matt finished as he began walking in Yuki’s direction, leaving Roy standing in the same spot.

“For our sake, I hope your right Matt” Roy said as he walked in the direction he hoped was Elmira.
