A world beyond my own. The reflection of the burning stars, the golden moon. Flower of the silvery sun. Light. Darkness. The vast pools of expanse between each. Good. Bad. And yet, not either. Opposite sides of the coin. All contained in eyes the color of the sweetest honey. Eyes belonging to my protector and lover. My beloved Rihiel.
What is Rihiel? In terms of genetics, he is the forebear of a powerful race of humanoids. In terms of birthright honor, he is a b*****d. And in terms of being, he is neither good, nor bad to have around.
His mother was an angel. His father was a demon. Rihiel was cast away by both, and then by humans. Never by me. When I met him, I did speak... always...of a neutral world. I was too young to comprehend why anyone ever looked down on another. Too young to comprehend why people act the way they do.
I met him when I was human, a teenage girl. I worked at a library after school and on weekends, since I found having resources to complete homework at my fingertips to be quite useful. That night, it was an eerily quiet evening. I was just about to leave and was walking towards the towering glass doors. Suddenly with a thud, a body flew into the left door, smearing blood down the bottom panes. I screamed and retreived the wooden bat I kept behind the counter. (yes I had a bat, can't be too safe you know.) When I turned back was when I noticed the wings. Huge, translucent black wings, like those of a demon protuded from the shoulder blades of a human back. They drooped at odd angles on to the concrete walkway in front of the library.The blood seeping under the doors woke me from my shock, and I hurried outside, careful not to use the door the body leaned against. A glowing form appeared in front of me in billowing white robes, cream colored feathers fluttering from dove-like wings.
"Mortal...please step aside..." a multi-toned voice whispered.
"W-why?!" I gasped. (of course I was frightened) The voice responded,
"He is a demon...he should not be here..." I put my hand on my hip.
"Hang on. I'm Aethiest. Why should I believe you? What if I'm, say, hallucinating? A-and what if you're just some looney dressed up in the middle of summer for no good reason trying to scare people?!" The being frowned,
"I am an angel. Why do you not believe in what you see?" My eyebrow raised.
"Eyes can decieve. Now what did this 'demon' do to cause you to hurt him?"
"There is a pact in place that states no demon or angel may come onto this plain unless the reason has been discussed with the opposing side. I am here to punish him and take him back to his place."
"Well that's stupid," I said sarcastically,"Has he actually done anything? And how long has he been here?"
"He has appeared on this plain, and has been hiding for months on end." I hesitated,
"Then...he's technically done nothing wrong?"
"No."
"So then the only reason you're punishing him is because he happens to be here?"
"That is correct."
"How's about you go discuss whether you really need to punish him or not. I'll keep him at my house."
"...you may do this. A guardian will watch to make sure he does not escape nor harm you. You will see me again when the guild of Seraphim has reached it's decision."
The figure slowly faded. I shook my head in an effort to clear my hallucinating only to find the body behind me. Slowly, it's head began to move. A fine-boned face slowly turned up to startle me. Green, cat-like eyes glowed up at me framed by wispy straight black hair that was pulled loosely into a ponytail between his shoulder blades. The pale lips did not move, though blood steadily dripped slowly onto an already blood soaked navy-blue yukata. He lay on his right side and part of his back. The arm under him was broken in the forearm and lay at an odd angle. With his other arm, he slowly tried to pick himself up, but collapsed, exhuasted. His yukata shifted open to reveal three deep gashes running along the right side of his lean, muscled abdomen. I gasped in horror,
"Did an ANGEL really do that?!"
"He did...but I'm glad I made it...to you...I have to tell you...aah!" The 'demon' began to hack up blood. When his fit stopped, he gasped, "You'll...believe me!"
"What am I to believe?"
The 'demon' looked to the ground. "My master has decided that she wants to take over hell...and from there...everything else...you must tell someone in heaven to believe me! They'll believe a human's words..."
Confused, I asked, "So you're REALLY a demon?"
"...I am..."
"Then why wouldn't you help your master? Aren't demons supposed to be bad?"
"I am...a demon...because I killed myself."
Startled, I exclaimed, "Well, why would you do that?!"
"My best friend in the world...thought me to be...a demon. He tried to kill me..."
"...I'm so sorry...Oh, god, you're bleeding, that's right! Ummm...ummm...could you walk if you leaned on me?"
"...yes."
I gently helped him up, much of the work on my part, and put his good arm around my neck. "Alright, here we go..." We slowly walked our way to my grayish-blue, beat-up old van, and he leaned against it as I pulled a thick blanket from the back to wrap him in. It would help keep him warm, act as a temporary bandage, and keep the blood off my car seats. I spread it over the passenger seat, then helped him inside. "Wrap that around yourself and wipe the blood off your face. If we get pulled over by police officers..." I shuddered.
"Yes...I understand." He did as I told.
"What's your name?" I asked as I got in the van.
"I am Rihiel. You are?"
"Ah, sorry! I'm Mai, and I'm taken."
"...excuse me, what?"
"I'm taken."
"What do you mean?"
"I have a boy friend."
"That's...nice. What do you do together?"
"Umm...it means he's not quite my lover."
"Oh!"
"I need to brush you up on this century, don't I?"
"...I died in Feudal Japan. So..."
"I see. Well...let's worry about your body first, and your brain second."
Rihiel smiled, "You're a funny girl."
"Why thank you!"
