Chapter 14: The Second Test







Roy looked at the man with full blue and white armor, then at Yuki and Matt who stayed standing where they were, unmoved.

“What’s going on? What is all this?”

“For your second and final test, I want you to take me and my clones on, if you succeed, you will be an honorary member of the Crimson Blades, if you lose…well; let’s just say you’ll be going home in a box in pieces.” The man said glaring at Roy with cold blue eyes.


“Your clones?” Roy asked as he slowly stepped back and looked at Yuki and Matt who remained in their spot.

“Yes, as you can see, I am a shape shifter, I can take the image of anyone and anything of my choosing and use it at my disposal, and I can also make clones out of anything. I chose to look like our leader, Flint, and as for my clones, I chose your friends.”

Taking another step back, Roy realized that the door behind him had disappeared. Taking a deep breath, Roy looked at the shape shifter square in the eye and began to walk forward “Don’t remember telling you that I want to join this so called Crimson Blades, but if it’s a fight you want, you got one!”

“Talking big, eh? Fine, I’m glad you’re not backing down even though it’s 3 on 1, here, I believe this is yours!”

Making Edge appear out of nowhere, the shape shifter threw edge halfway across the room and was caught by Roy who quickly readied it as the shape shifter readied his own sword. The clones did the same.





Eyeing each other, Roy and the shape shifter glared each other down for more than a minute, both not moving an inch. As an unsteady wind blew in the room they stood, the Matt clone took this chance to shoot a water arrow. Faster than Matt’s original, Roy leaped and rolled to the left as the arrow missed him by mere inches. Standing up, Roy quickly looked up and saw Yuki heading directly towards him, surfing on her ice magic. Without hesitating, Roy began to run out of the way and watched as the Yuki clone freeze the spot Roy once stood.

Never knew Yuki could do that!!! Roy thought as he looked straight ahead and saw that the shape shifter wasn’t where he was a couple seconds ago. As if on cue, the shape shifter appeared out of nowhere and punched Roy square in the face. Reacting fast, Roy clutched his fist and punched him back as hard as he could. But something wasn’t right; the guy he punched fell on the ground and fused with the floor.

“Another clone” Roy said to himself as he saw that the Matt and Yuki clones were coming directly towards him, a lust for death in their eyes.
Dodging a barrage of arrows, Roy swung his sword horizontally at the Matt clone, who boldly ducked as Roy left himself wide open. Upper cutting Roy, Matt then kicked him, causing him to fly across the room and into a frozen floor, where Yuki was waiting for him. Roy quickly stabbed the floor with his sword while skidding on the ice and quickly kicked Yuki who was about to stab him with her spear. Appearing again, Matt skid on the ice and took aim at Roy who was struggling to stand up on the slippery floor. I have to dodge that arrow, but how…how!? Roy franticly thought as he saw Matt let a horde of arrows fly towards him.

Suddenly, Roy remembered an event that happened the night they left Shahel.

“Sweet” Matt said as he took out a bracelet “Shield Bracelet!”

“Shield Bracelet?” Roy asked.

“It’s a little trinket the let’s us transmit our own magic into these things and produce a shield, but not a huge one, just a small one that let’s you cover yourself from blows” Yuki said as she handed him one “here, there’s one for each of us!”
*Chapter 8, the Departure*


Quickly outstretching his right hand, Roy concentrated his magic on the small shield bracelet he had under his glove.

“Fire Shield!!!” he yelled as a flame shield engulfed half of his arm and caused the arrows heading towards him to evaporate. “Fire Blade!” he also bellowed, as Edge burned brightly in his left hand, ready to strike its foes.

Roy looked to his left, seeing the Matt clone smile gleefully as he stood up and brush off the shards of ice on his cloak. To his right, Yuki chuckling and spinning her spear, completely unafraid at the powered up Roy. Taking a deep breath, Roy took this opportunity to land the first blow. Sliding towards Matt, he slammed the hilt of the sword on Matt’s face and moved towards the left as Yuki almost stabbed Roy from behind. Surprised, Yuki tried to back away, but to no avail. Roy had confused her, taking the opportunity to hit Matt and leaving the sharp part of the blade pointing towards Yuki, Roy plunged his sword onto her belly. Yelling in agony, the Yuki clone and the ice surrounding Roy disappeared into the floor, she was done.

“Just two more to go!” Cried Roy as he looked at the Matt clone that was already producing a magic Roy had never seen before. Creating a Tidal wave, Roy could only brace for the impact as the huge Tsunami took Roy and slammed him to a nearby wall. Quenching the fire blade and his shield, Roy hit the wet floor, hard. Staggering as he stood up, Roy saw that Matt was on the move. Taking up water and creating many small daggers out of them, Matt readied his bow and fired them to Roy. Surprised at the speed they were coming, Roy quickly threw himself onto the floor and saw the daggers hit the wall with such force, they left craters on them.

Sheesh, If I let those arrows hit me, I’m done for! There has to be a way to get close to Matt so I can beat him…but how?

Without warning, Matt shot more daggers at Roy’s direction. He helplessly kept dodging them, trying to come up with an idea in the process. Getting extremely annoyed with himself, Roy could only think of one idea that he was sure would fail. Clutching Edge tightly, Roy made a head on run towards Matt who looked very surprised at the boy who thought running towards him was a good idea. Letting the daggers fly, Roy stopped dead in his tracks and yelled Fire Blade, causing the arrows that were mere inches from him to evaporate.

I KNEW it, even though water quenches fire, the sudden blast of power in my blade causes a fire so hot, it evaporates water in a heartbeat! Roy thought with a grin in his face. Pleased with his smartness, Roy continued to run towards Matt. Again, he let arrows again, and again Roy would yell Fire Blade, as he got closer to his target. Breathing heavily, Roy suddenly realized that he was getting weaker by the second, this idea was magic consuming, but he had no choice, he had to push through, this was his only shot. As Matt let the last group of daggers fly, Roy changed tactics. Throwing himself on his back, he hit the floor and began sliding upon it like a water slide. As the daggers missed Roy but inches, Matt could only watch in amazement as the rookie swordsman stood up quickly and struck him down with a vertical slash, he was done, he had been defeated.

“My, my, my, aren’t you a sight for sore eyes!” A mysterious voice called out as it revealed itself from the shadows, it was the shape shifter.

“I guess you’re next…,” panted Roy in a cold voice as he readied himself and glared deep into the shape shifters eyes.

“My, my, what ever to do, guess you want to go all out?”

“If you want to lose…be my guest.”

“Naturally.”


Both the shape shifter and Roy ran at each other, not having plans to hold back power. As they got closer, a gunshot echoed in the room, causing them both to stop and look around as to who had done it. A spiky black haired kid with a semi long jacket, jeans, and torn shirt entered the room. Gun at hand and annoyed face, he simply put away his gun and sighed, “You always have to take things too far, stop bullshiting and give the boy entrance, he passed.”
