Long ago, everyone lived in harmony. When I mean everyone, I mean everyone; vampires, demons, werewolves, everyone including the humans. The humans would have the world during the day. The creatures had the world at night. But, nothing could stay perfect for to long. Noone knows who had crossed the line due to the years that passed. The humans had said that it was the creatures of the night who had started it, stealing away humans and terrorizing. The creatures say that the humans had begun to take up what had been their time to live. Afterwards, war broke out. It ended when a rare group of people, who had been gifted with magic, sent the creatures to another dimension. They were sent to a place where it was always night. The group thought the creatures would be content, well they were wrong.
The creatures had gotten to taste the humans, gotten to have a fun prey when they had collided with the humans. The barrier was the only thing keeping them in that blasted dimension.

The bad news for the humans: The barrier is weakening. And the creatures can get through if they're strong enough.

The good news for the humans: The descendants of the group walked among them. They could stop the creatures that had come through and repair the barrier. There also might be some people out there that can help teach them how to tap into their ancestors' blood.
