My New Novel
Part 3
The night passed like a slow desert wind, creeping by without the slitest sence of releaf given. Sarabith tossed and turned throughout the night; her thoughts fixed on that key and what mysteries awaited. Morning finally came. The bright sunbeams illuminated Sarabith's crystal white chamber. She sprung to the desk and grabbed the key from the drawer she had placed it in the day before. Holding it in her hands, she walked over to the window and peered out. The morning dew glissened on the cut grass; birds sung their glorious songs from the trees. Today was a day like none other.
Sarabith rushed through breakfast, trying not to arouse attention. Her grandmother informed her that she would be gone the day to do business in town. Sarabith gleamed secretly with excitement; she was alone all day. Upon finishing breakfast, Sarabith waited impatiently till her grandmother was out of sight. Then, she began her quest.
As she left her room and stared down the long hallway, Sarabith realized this wasn't going to be an easy hunt, but she began walking, examining each door and crack she passed in hopes of getting closer to her unknown destination. As she came to the end of the hall, she came across a panel that was oddly placed. As she explored this oddity further, she saw that it was in the shape of a door. When she removed a loose block of wood, she realized that she had found the lock. She eagerly slid the key into the rusty lock and turned. A click ecoed and Sarabith puched the door revealing a small, spiral stairwell. She entered through, looking in awe at the cobwebed walls and dusty surfaces. Sarabith assended the stairs, causious about her every step.
She finally reached the top. She stood there dumbfounded. All that surrounded her was a dark room. A dark room, with a doorway standing in the middle. Sarabith stepped lightly to this intruder. She ran her fingers along the edges of the frame, collecting dust as they brushed the cold, laquored surface. She sauntered around to the back. Nothing to be seen. 'What is the purpose of this door randomly standing in the middle of this dusty, old room?' she thought to herself. She walked to the front of it again and stood there for awhile.
She then reached forward as if to open it, but then pulled her arm back and giggled to herself. 'Surely is pointless to open a door that only takes you to the other side of the room,' she muttered, 'or is it?' Sarabith gripped the door handle, her heart beat growing loud in her ear, and turned the knob. As she pulled the door towards her body, her expression grew to shock, disbelief, and fasination.
