First Kiss
Dear Diary,

My friends say that the first kiss is supposed to be the best kiss you’ll ever have in your life. They say it’s ‘heaven on Earth’.

“Scarlet! Come on, or the cafeteria would be full by the time we get there.” Julie was shouting from across the hallway, walking at a fast pace already.

“Wait a minute! I’ll be right there. You just go ahead.”
“Okay then. Just hurry up or the food’s gonna get cold.”
“Alright!”

In the end, I really didn’t catch up with my friend. Instead, I stayed at the gym. During those times, I wanted to be alone. It gave me a calm feeling. That day was different though – he was there.

He was leaning on a pillar a little distance away from where I came in. His uniform was already slightly wrinkled, and he was already a bit sweaty because he had been playing basketball with his friends. He was standing on the stairs, which showed how tall he was. When we stood beside each other, I was maybe four inches shorter than him. He wasn’t really handsome, but he was shining with his own uniqueness. That made him attractive. He really didn’t have a buff body, and he wasn’t really a genius either. He was just a crush, and nothing more. Though I liked him, I just can’t think of him actually liking me back. It just seemed different. Then, he smiled. His buck teeth showing, his childish smile always melts my heart. I can’t help but smile back at him maybe at his funny expression or maybe because I’m just happy he’s here.

He gestured me to come closer. I did as I was told. He initiated the conversation. We started talking about basketball, school, and friends. Then there was a pause. It felt awkward. I looked up at the sky, feeling the breeze that passed

“The sky’s so blue today, huh?”

When I looked back at him, he was staring at me. His black eyes penetrated through my skin. I felt a shiver up my spine. I stammered, asking him what the problem was, followed by nervous questions. Was there dirt on my face? Did the wind mess up my hair? Was it something I said?

He smiled again, his childish smile, his eyes locking mine. “Yup, it’s eternally blue. It’s perfect.”

I heard myself hiccup, and finally I looked away. He stood and held out his hand to me. I accepted and stood, trying not to meet his gaze. Suddenly, he leaned me against the pillar, and kissed me on the lips.

That didn’t feel right at all. I pushed him away, and ran as fast as I could. I returned to our classroom just in time when the bell rang. My heart was thumping like it wanted to burst right out of my chest. The class started and I tried to ignore my friend whispering at me from behind. I wanted to concentrate on the lesson to forget what happened a while ago.

When I eventually controlled myself, I caught a glimpse of him outside our classroom. He waving at me and saying sorry; I lost count how many times. I just ignored him, and soon went back to his class.

I wanted it to be romantic. I wanted it to happen when we both knew what we really felt. I wanted it to last longer, and not just a smack. It was my very first kiss, and it sucked.
