R.E.D. chapter1; Creation

I hung, pinned to the metal slab that stood vertically, my bound wrists and ankles kept me from falling.
The only light came from above me, and from behind the glass in the other room.
Behind the glass I could see four shadows. I knew who they were--Well, I knew what they were--They were the doctors and professors that experimented on us. I am a special kind of human. My body is able to withstand things other human's bodies can't. There are only a few of us still alive on this world. As soon as we were found, we were taken to a laboratory hidden somewhere in a valley, up in the mountains.
Every day we were experimented on. It was never the same thing, always some kind of horrible experiment.
Every day, we had nothing to look forward to but another painful, agonizing experiment or test, and the false hope of maybe returning home someday.
I am Eshidu of chamber 6, cell number 3095 in the west wing.

* * *

One of the shadows moved and a door opened, shining light onto the hard cement floor.
I recognized the man. He was the professor for chamber 6.
He had showed us kindness only once. The day we came, he soothed us with sweet words and a calming voice. He said everything would be fine, that we would only be here a few days. Nearly six years later, he still speaks with the same tone, but his words are only of torture and pain.

"How are you feeling today, little one?" the professor looked at me, smiling.
". . ." I glared back, saying nothing and watched as he approached me. He raised his hand and I flinched, afraid that I'd be struck again, but his hand rested gently on my face and caressed my cheek. I looked up at him expectantly. "Remember how you feel right now. Because after I give you this..." he said as he held up his other hand. He was holding a syringe I hadn't noticed. It was filled with a swirling red and black liquid. "...you'll be very different."
Wary, I asked, "Different? Different how?" Still smiling, he continued to stroke my face. "We don't know. Which is why we've called you out today." He kissed my forehead and I shivered. "Now relax. I'm just going to give you a little poke in your upper arm." I stifled a whimper and began to tremble.
I didn't want this. No more. I just wanted him to stop, and let me go home. I didn't care that I had nothing to go home to. I just wanted out of this hell hole.
"Now, now. I can't do anything if you don't relax your muscles. The sooner you relax, the sooner you'll get to go home," he ran his hand through my hair, sending another wave of shivers throughout my body, but what he said was true. So I took deep breaths, relaxing my muscles and slowing my heart rate. "Very good, little one. Now just look the other way..." He pressed the needle to my skin and forced it through as I averted my gaze.

I felt nothing for about ten seconds. Then I felt a sharp pain spread all throughout my body. I gasped, bewildered by the sudden shock. I could no longer see the dim light above, the professor, nor the other shadows.
I saw nothing but psychedelic colors. All shades of blues and greens swirled around, soon joined by yellows and some white, then by pinks and reds, but as soon as red leaked into sight, black followed. It crept in from all sides, shutting out the other colors.
The black seemed to intensify the pain. I felt my body lurch and I cried out.
I shook my head, trying to get rid of the darkness, to no avail.
The darkness seemed to get darker, the pain stronger with every breath I took, but along with the pain and darkness I felt a stirring in my head.
I felt dizzy and numb, I couldn't tell up from down. The pain dulled considerably and I stopped writhing, my screams became nothing more than moans.
Then I felt something in my head, almost like a muffled click.
Through all of the pain I felt an unbelievably strong desire for something.

* * *

I exhaled softly. And the warm feel of my breath made me aware that I was still alive. I was also brought back to reality by the sense of pain that still charged in my body. Everything was quiet. I could barely feel the restraints on my wrists and ankles, but I knew they were the only things holding me up.
I hadn't realized that my eyes were closed until the professor told me to open them. "How do you feel?" he asked, wiping my bangs away from my face.
When his hand came in contact with my skin, my eyes flashed open. There was a hot, mouthwatering scent emanating from him. I lifted my head and leaned forward, sniffing the air between us. "Eshidu? How do you feel?" his voice was annoying me. "Professor..what's that smell?" Had they brought something into the room for further testing? My question threw him off for a second. "Hm? I...don't smell anything..." Then his eyes widened. "What is it you smell? Can you smell more now? Are any of your senses better than before?" I had no idea what he was talking about. All I could think about was the smell. I could feel it drawing me in. The only thing I could register was that I had to have it, whatever that smell was. A voice in my head was telling me that I absolutely needed it.

I remembered that he was waiting for an answer, so I said, "Professor... I smell something,..and I think I can find it, if you'd just let me down.."
"Oh, of course. Lets see what you can do!" he eagerly pulled the keys from his lab coat pocket and undid the locks. As soon as I was free, I launched myself at him. He fell backwards, landing on his back side. "...! E-Eshidu! What has...?" I inhaled his scent and the voice yelled at me, There! It's there! Get it!
I did as it told me and ripped his coat off. I found that to be easier than I thought. My nails seemed a lot sharper and I felt that my strength had greatly increased.
The professor pushed against my shoulders, but he was too weak. I could feel how much stronger I was than him. I smirked as I looked down into his wide, frightened eyes. "How does it feel," I asked him, "to be on the other end of the experiment?" Before he could answer, I bit down on his neck and pulled with my teeth, ripping his skin. I heard him scream in pain and the sound sent a strange sensation throughout my body. The way he squirmed and struggled under me amused me to no end. I smiled as I pressed my lips to neck and sucked out some of the liquid.
Soon my mouth was filled with his blood. It sent sparks flying across my taste buds. It ran, hot and delicious, down my throat.
I could feel myself pulling him closer to me, the heat from his body only making his blood seem more tasty and warm.
Again, my thoughts began to gradually melt away in the darkness that grew stronger in the back of my head with every swallow.
I felt a sensation that I had never experienced before. It acted somewhat like a phone call to the darkness. The darkness replied, but it talked to me rather than where the wonderful feeling was coming from.
It told me that I needed to be careful. This confused me.
All I could feel was the warmth of the professor's blood down my throat, the almost giddy feeling it brought me. Why did it keep repeating Careful.. watch yourself..
I opened my eyes and looked to see the other shadows now running toward me, screaming and yelling for the man under me.
I felt a great anger boil up from somewhere deep inside me. A low growl passed through my lips and they stopped advancing. The voice yelled at me Get them away from here. Protect what's yours!
I ran at them and, on instinct, slashed the neck of the closest shadow with my now razor sharp nails.
He fell to his knees, griping at his bleeding throat, and more of that delicious scent wafted up from him. The smell was so alluring, so tempting, I almost dropped to my knees to taste him. But the other shadows screamed, drawing my attention away. They kept coming at me, this time with weapons.
One of them shocked me with something I couldn't identify and the other commanded a metal arm to pin me back against the metal slab.
Then the voice started talking again..
Eshidu... let me take care of this. I know how to fix this. You just sleep now...
I felt my eyelids droop and a powerful urge to sleep overcame me as I listened, its command twice as warm and tempting as the blood's aroma. I mumbled back to the voice, "...Sleep?"
Yes. I'll wake you when I'm done. Then the patterns again filled my mind.
Black.
From twisting vibrant colors, to a world of black.
Lost in the darkness, I could no longer discern the border between reality and dreams.
I had the sensation that I was floating in zero gravity. I decided not to pay any mind as to where I was and let go of my consciousness.

Though it felt like days, only a second had passed when I awoke, but it wasn't me that woke up. It was someone else. Someone strong and very, very mad, but..it was still me.

Everything was tinged red. I could clearly see the frightened expressions on the faces of the two men standing before me. I heard myself growl, and I charged at them.
They turned and ran in the opposite direction, slamming the steel door.
I punched the long glass window besides the door, shattering it. Giving me a way through, I jumped into what looked like an operating room and followed the men down the hall.
I laughed at their pitiful attempts to escape.
I caught up with them easily and jumped on them, pinning them down with my bare feet, and gave their faces one last look before I slashed both of their necks.

I am Eshidu of chamber 6, cell number 3095 in the west wing.
And I am a monster.
