This is a story my two former best friends and I were writing until everything went downhill. Death and Destiny I longed to see the blood trickle down his face, hear his heartbeat decrease to a long silence, and feel his body heat turn stone cold. Now the day has finally come and I feel no remorse, no regrets, only protection and love. My dad had no right to live after what he did. He was going to die anyway, the only thing I did was invite the Grim Reaper to our attic on a cold December eve. Now all I had to worry about was taking care of Sevita through Christmas day and the rest of our high school years. Sevita I was walking slowly to my dad’s funeral. It was the saddest moment of my life. My dad was the parent I was closest to. He was the one I told everything including the way I felt, who I loved, and my relationships. “It’s ok,” whispered my sister, Genevieve. She may think it was ok, but I didn’t and never would. My twin sister was the absolute closest one to me. I wasn’t scared to tell her anything. She was always the one that protected me. She was the one who understood me the most. She had long black hair, like I did. Also like me, she had a highlighted streak in her hair. However, ours were different colors. Hers was blue like her eyes, whereas mine was green which also matched mine. Her eyes were given to her from my mother. We weren’t sure where I got my eye color from. Apparently, it was a recessive trait. My sister and I looked almost the same but she was tall and I was short. We also had personalities. She was the courageous one, the “atrevida”, the daredevil. I was the scared one. However, we were both quiet and shy. We loved music very much. “Come on, “she said waking me out of my daydream from how much she meant to me. I walked a little quicker towards the funeral. When I looked at my father’s face, I cried my heart out. I could not stop until an hour had past and ruing that hour, Genevieve was holding me. She was also crying but she looked kind of mad instead. I didn’t want to say anything, so I kept crying. In the end, we finally stopped. We walked back to our truck and got inside. “Are you feeling better Sevita?” she asked, staring at me. I nodded my head yes but said nothing. Who would kill my father and why? He respected everyone. He had no enemies. Who could do such a crime? When we found him, he was stabbed to death. My sister sighed and looked out the window. “Oh my gosh I can’t take this anymore, we’re going to see Sapphire.” “Great, my life just gets better. I get to see my so called ‘best friend’,” I said making hand gestures into quotation marks. Sapphire was the one who dramatized everything. She was the one who tried to make me feel better but in the end, made things worse. “Don’t be so optimistic,” said Genevieve sarcastically. I stuck my tongue out at her. We drove all the way to Sapphire’s house, which was five miles from the funeral but three blocks away from our house. Sapphire’s house was different to any average house, it was like a museum. There were things so far back and each object held a story behind it. Whenever you walk in, there’s important documents and everything else in glass cases all over the room. Whenever we got there however, is when our new detective, Kyoya, was questioning Sapphire. The last detective we hired was contaminating the room and destroying evidence. He was fired from his job but was pretty happy about it. This new detective, I hardly knew but seemed to be doing his job.
Kyoya I glanced towards the door, as the two girls walked in. They must’ve had a lot of money to have hired me as their own private detective. I tried to get back to the interrogation, but the girl I was interviewing stopped what she was saying, ran over to the two at the door, and greeted them with hugs and “I’m so sorry”s. I decided to give them some space, and walked around the house. Everything seemed clean, and Sapphire, the interrogated girl, seemed to check out just fine. Unfortunately, I still hadn’t gotten enough information about the dad; more of it was about the girls. “Are you done with the questioning?” Sapphire asked from across the room. I nodded yes, and continued analyzing everything. Interestingly enough, she had no apparent clue about the dad, except the whole, “He’s a good father that loved his family,” thing, and “Who would kill such an innocent man?” Was he really that innocent? That statement went on and on in my head. Eventually, I got a headache. I decided there was nothing left to look for, so I headed out the door. I pulled my keys out of my pocket, and got into my Scion Fuse. I started the truck, and drove off.
Genevieve I had such pain in my heart seeing my sister cry like that. I didn’t cry for him, I cried for her. Everything was about her now. Just like the glint of hope in her eye now that we have a new private detective. I don’t know if he is bribable. Our old detective used to get half of my $1,000 dollar a month allowance in exchange for keeping the truth from coming out. I just couldn’t risk Sevita finding out, at least not now, not until everything calms down. Kyoya looks like a determined angel searching for love and the truth. He can search all he wants as long as it’s not here and doesn’t involve my sister and me. I literally pushed my sister towards Sapphire hoping Sapphire has something intelligent to say. “Hey is it ok if I come over today?” asked Sapphire. “Right now is not a good time.” “Right now is a perfect time to party, Sevita.” I saw the tears starting to stream down her face. Right now is definitely not the time to party, not after our dad’s funeral. “Sapphire we’ll come back another time. Maybe next week, or next month, you can stay at our house for a weekend,” I say waving goodbye and dragging Sevita towards the door. This was not how Sapphire was supposed to act. I thought she would have at least said something funny so that Sevita could laugh or at least giggle. I’m not going to keep her here so that Sapphire can give her an emotional breakdown. “Sure, why not?” she falsely smiles, pain feeling her eyes as she realizes what she just said. “Sevita?” She turns around wiping the tears from her face. “I’m really sorry for your loss and I wish I could be a better friend to you at this time. I don’t mean to hurt you.” Sevita breaks from my grip and runs toward her. “I know Sapphire, I know.” Instead of disappointment, hope fills up my cheeks. I knew this was a good idea! I walk over to them and we all hug and sit down in what Sapphire calls her bedroom. I call it a closet. Don’t get me wrong Sapphire’s house is big, ours is just bigger, way bigger. My bedroom was the size of her backyard and my twin sister has her own room about the same size as well. My sister laughs at a joke I obviously missed, but just seeing her smile makes me laugh like never before. My mom, who’s been dead for 10 months, knows how happy I am right now. Everyone else probably has no clue. My sister gives me a weird look giving me a hint that I’ve taken it overboard and the joke was obviously not that funny. She doesn’t know that I wasn’t laughing at that, but then again what does she know. They smile at each other, wipe away their tears, and say their final goodbyes. “Come on Sevita. Let’s go home.” Sevita I walk out of the house with Genevieve holding me at her side. “I’m happy, she made you smile!” she said as she laughed. Yeah, she made me so happy. I had to put a fake smile on just to make her feel better, to get her away. What I needed was time on my own. I wanted to go to a place where I couldn’t be found from anyone, even my sister. I never thought I would want to be away from my sister, but I just wanted her to leave me alone and quit lying. I knew it wasn’t always going to be ok. I knew that my father was going to die someday, but I needed him. He completed my life. He was the one that supported me. What was going to happen next? Was my sister next? I wouldn’t survive on my own. She was all I had left. The only family member I knew. The rest of our family we never knew, they were gone. They passed away a long time ago, when she and I were born. “Do you want to talk to the detective?” she asked smiling. “No, I want to go home,” I replied, trying to get my normal tone back. Surprisingly, it fooled her. Normally nothing would, ever but this time it worked. We went straight home and thought I was ok, that I was healed. No, I wasn’t and would never be. My life wasn’t the same anymore. It was like somebody took part of it away. They just stole it away from me. This killer ruined it, they ruined everything. I decided to stay in grief and to try to remember him as much as possible. I didn’t want to forget him, not now, not ever. After we got home, I went straight into the living room while my sister went into the kitchen to get something to eat. It was the biggest room in the house. It was bigger than three backyards combined. A ball could be held in there anytime. It had beautiful tile floor and cream colored walls. There were columns in the room, which made it even more attractive. In the middle of the room was my father’s chair in front of a modern TV. My sister and I never wanted it there, it threw the whole room off but my father thought it was agreeable. He had weird tastes but I loved that about him. He was different from everyone else. He was the one that helped in gifts, too. He was creative and that is why he was a writer. I sat in the chair and sat there hugging the pillow that was in my place. I sat there thinking of my father and good memories we’ve had. All the good times he gave me advice to the times we played around. More tears came in my eyes. I was then thankful for the things I kept from my father. I kept photographs, his gifts, and recordings. It wasn’t the same as him, but it would help me remember whenever I may have forgotten. Kyoya It was starting to get late, as I was strolling around my house. Well, I wouldn’t really call it a house, more of a building. Sure it had plenty of rooms and space, but no one could really live here, except for me and a friend of course. People think of him as a butler, but to me, we both stood equal. He was my caretaker after all these years. “Master Kyoya, may I ask what you are pondering so hard about?” he kept asking. “It’s the case, Alexander,” I finally replied. “Something’s not right.” “Maybe you need some air, you stay in this house all day.” I stopped walking and looked out one of the windows. Maybe he was right. But even if I were to take a break, the case would still be floating about in my thoughts. Breaking the awkward silence, the phone rang. “I’ll take that” said Alexander, swiftly moving across the room. “For someone who’s old, you do move pretty fast.” I whispered to myself in astonishment. For three minutes I sat on my computer chair, spinning around in circles trying not to get dizzy. Finally, the screen door slid open, and Alexander walked in. “It was one of the young ladies who hired you for the case, I believe Genevieve was her name,” he said. “She inquired about you coming over for dinner. I suppose you want to go?” “Must I really?” “Sir, please forgive me, but you do need to get out more.” I sighed and glared at him. Maybe she hadn’t inquired at all, and he asked if I could come over! “Fine, fine, I’m going.” I exited the room, and walked across the hall, towards my room. The door slid open as I walked inside. It was a plain room, nothing special. There was a bed, which had never been touched, a cabinet, never opened, and a T.V. never turned on. Sighing I went to my closet, and took out a suit, pure black, with a purple neck tie, I quickly put it on. Suddenly, Alexander came in and turned the lights on. “You’re going to need these,” he said, tossing me something. I groaned. Annoying as they were, he was right. I unfolded the glasses, and put them on. At least I could see well. “Thanks,” I said sarcastically. He smiled and went out, and I followed. We went through the main hall, and entered the garage. He pushed a button, and the garage door opened. “Which one will you be taking?” he asked in a happy tone. “The corvette,” I replied. “Are you sure I should do this?” “Oh sir, this might be for the best.” I got into the truck, and headed out. Genevieve “Sevita, go put on some real clothes.” “Why can’t I sit here in my Scooby Doo™ nightgown?” She turns back around to the blank TV screen. “Can you please just do what I ask of you? We don’t need to make this any harder than it already is.” She turns and looks at me with pleading eyes. “Just tell me why.” “Detective Kyoya is coming over for dinner. I want to make sure we can trust him to do his job. I don’t want another detective contaminating evidence.” Her eyes light up a little. I thought she was attracted to Kyoya. I don’t know why she is though. She hurries up to the bathroom and gets ready. I start making dinner even though I just ate. I decided to make something Asian for the Asian detective. I was hoping that I could soften him up a little with food and nice conversation. Then, if I see even a little thirst for money, I can bribe him. After I put the last meal in the oven, I head for my bedroom and grab my hygiene products. Then, I walk to the bathroom and take a shower. I lather, rinse, and repeat to make sure I keep my hair silky and strong. Then, I put on my puffy black skirt, red spaghetti strap, black leather jacket, and black and white converse. I brush my hair back and swing my bangs on the left side of my face, just like usual, making sure my blue streak showed. I haven’t seen Vita ever since she rushed to get ready, so I walk to her room to make sure she was alright. She opens the door just as I’m about to knock on it. “How do I look?”She asks. I look her up and down taking in her new jeans our dad just got her and her favorite Linkin Park shirt. She had her hair in a high, laid-back ponytail. “Like you do every day you go to school.” We laugh. We weren’t the girly type. We liked the punk/Goth/rocker looks. “Where are your shoes?” “I have to wear shoes in my own house?” “Yes, Vita. It’s only proper.” She sighs and goes back in her room. She grabs her converse and slides them on. “You ready?” “As ready as I’ll ever be.” This was our first dinner without either one of our parents. The doorbell rings. I look through the peephole to make sure it’s Kyoya and not a stranger. Then, I walk into the kitchen and yell, “The door’s open. Come on in.” The butler gives me a strange look. He always gets the door. “You can rest now, Jeffrey. We don’t need your services.” He smiles, bows, and walks away before I change my mind. Each of our butlers and maids had their own room. Only one butler worked at a time. Five maids worked every week. Kyoya walks in. He gives me a weird look and writes something down on his stupid yellow notebook full of clues that lead him to me. “Please have a seat.” I take the egg rolls out of the oven. Then, I grab the lo mein and put some on everybody’s plate. “A little birdie told me that you love egg rolls” I smirk. Sevita The new detective and I walk in at the same time. He took a seat but looked exhausted. He then slouched and closed his eyes. “Yes, I very much enjoy egg rolls.” His voice sounded rough and cracky. He looked exhausted and looked sick. “Are you ok?” I asked. “Yes,” he said, sounding aggravated. I was used to his happy smile and his great behavior. Obviously, he didn’t want to be here. I looked at Genevieve and she just put her arms up and mouthed ‘I don’t know’. I then walked out of the room while grabbing the keys and my pouch. “Vita?” Genevieve called after me. I then ran to the truck and got in. If he didn’t want to come he could have said so, he didn’t have to go through sooo much annoyance. He could have at least pulled an excuse or look like he was happy to be here. I pulled out of the driveway and drove all the way to the highway. My phone rang, playing Bleed It Out. “Hello?” “Vita, why did you leave? We were dealing with important business,” she said, surprisingly not sounding angry. “You know darn good and well that he didn’t want to be there. We weren’t even doing business. You were about to socialize! I know you were. If you don’t care that much about our father then fine! Don’t expect me to be fine though Gen!” “Ummm Vita… I had the phone on speaker, he heard you.” I quickly hung up the phone, throwing it on the passenger seat and drove faster than my usual speed limit. OMG! She knew better than that! I would have at least expected for her to be in the other room or something! I can’t believe her! My life is over… My phone rang again. I looked at Caller ID, it was him. Well this is just great! How did he get my number! I gave him Gen’s! Oh well, just because he wasn’t nice doesn’t mean I have to be rude too! I gulped and slowly picked up the phone, flipping it open. I was too late. It stopped ringing. Great, now my life gets worse! I closed the phone and put on some music. Where should I go now? I couldn’t go back to the house. I decided to go to the mall. It was about time I got a new Linkin Park shirt. I parked and got out of the truck, locking it as I walked into the mall. I looked around. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as crowded as I expected. Then I turned right and saw everyone crowding towards something. I walked towards it and easily got towards the front and saw Joseph on the ground. He looked pretty beat up. He had bruises all over his arms while the left one actually looked broken. His face was red and his hair raggedy. He even had a black eye and some teeth punched out. Blood covered his face, from the injury in his mouth I guessed. I quickly tried to get him to wake up and to help me get him off the floor. He got up and we walked towards the closest bench. Joseph was my best friend. He was as close to me as my sister was. He had shaggy black hair and dark brown eyes. He was pretty skinny but was tall at the same time. He was sweet and was the one there for me when I got hurt. He was the one I looked to for advice. I hadn’t talked to him over the Christmas Holiday; he was on a vacation with his family. I told him to have fun and not worry about me for once. He did as told and didn’t know what happened to my dad yet. It was sad to see him beaten up like this. Bruises covered his body and I saw a cut on his chest. “Are you ok?” “Vita, is that you?” he asked, still trying to concentrate. “Yeah, we need to get you to the doctor; do you think you can make it to the truck?” “Yeah.” Kyoya I drove up on their house. It was huge! The gates opened slowly, very, slowly. About half a minute later, the gates were halfway open, and I sped through. I turned around and laughed at the gates, suddenly remembering that I was on their driveway. Well I was on the driveway. I pulled to a complete stop, realizing the fact that I made it on their lawn. I looked around, and slowly drove back on the driveway, parking at their front door. I stepped out of the truck, and walked up the plight of stairs towards their door. I stood there with a hard decision in mind. To my left was the doorbell, but on my right was the door knocker. For a couple of minutes, I just stood there, deciding which one would be more interesting to use. My right arm reached for the knocker, but my left pointer finger had already poked the doorbell. “The door’s open. Come on in.” The doors opened, and Genevieve welcomed me in. I took out my little pocket note book, and took note on what they were wearing. They looked really nice. We were at the dining area. I never really realized how huge of a house this was. It was more of a mansion! “Please have a seat.” Gen insisted, walking to the oven. I sniffed the air. It smelled like Asian food. Asian food that smelled really odd. Gen walked back, with a plate full of eggrolls and some lo mein. The scent of the lomein gave me a headache. I might be Asian, but I could never stand the smell of Asian cuisine. Sevita finally came in. She looked amazing. Ugh I thought to myself. The lomein made me look and feel sick. I groaned. She was the reason I actually came. I looked at her, and we both took our seats. “Are you ok?” she asked. “Yes,” I replied, aggravatingly. The sisters looked at each other. Genevieve shrugged. Suddenly, Sevita got up, grabbed her keys, and left. Genevieve went after her. Uh oh I thought to myself what did I do? Genevieve returned, with a phone in her hand and a grin on her face. She dialed up a number, and pressed the speaker button. “Hello?” Sevita answered. “Vita, why did you leave? We were dealing with important business,” Genevieve tried to reason. “You know darn good and well that he didn’t want to be there. We weren’t even doing business. You were about to socialize! I know you were. If you don’t care that much about our father then fine! Don’t expect me to be fine though Gen!” “Ummm Vita… I had the phone on speaker, he heard you.” Then came the dial tone. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. Genevieve sighed and hung up. “May I try?” I asked her. She smiled, giving me Sevita’s number. I waited, and waited. Nothing. I hung my head. “I think I’ll be off now.” I said quietly. Crouching, I headed out the front door.
Genevieve “Kyoya! Please wait!” He turns around. “Can I help you?” I try to calmly tell him that I invited him here and it’s rude to just get up and leave like that. He sighs. I guess partially from boredom, partially from Sevita, the love of his life and all that other crap, and another part because he knows he was wrong. “I’m sorry.” He sits down. I know he likes Sevita and all, but just because she up and left doesn’t mean he can too. I try not to stare, but it was difficult at that moment of time because just something about him popped out at me. I’ll let him do his job. I sigh. Maybe later I can tell him everything and he’ll decide for himself if he wants to arrest me. I mean I did hire him. “Kyoya, you looked a little sick when you walked in and I’m pretty sure it was because of me my outfit, and my cooking.” I turn to face the oven. I take everything out and turn everything off. I’m just about to dumb it all when I thought, maybe he likes kind people. He is a hero after all. I’ll give it to the homeless and he’ll go with me. Then he’ll see how nice I am and give me some slack. It was a long shot, but it was worth a try. “Grab your coat and follow me.” We walk into my garage and I grab my Porsche 911 Turbo. He gives me a puzzled look. “I like them fast,” I shrug. He takes his notebook out, again, and jots down more notes. I invited him for dinner not a tour. “Where are we going?” “We’re going to the homeless shelter to give them all this food.” “What food?” I look back and realize I forgot all of the food. I put my palm on my face and shake my head. When I was just about to get out, Kyoya said, “I can get it. I just need your key.” Nothing bad could happen so I gave him the key and thanked him. He started to bring out the food. Then, he sits back in the passenger seat and smiles. “Show off,” I whisper. That food was heavy. He shrugs and looks forward. “Well are you going to drive?” I give him a sarcastic look, “No. We’re just going to sit here.” I turn my truck on and pull out of the driveway. I don’t see how we can drive we’re only 14, but no one bothers us.”What age did you start driving?” He pulls out the notebook again. I quickly grab the notebook and attempt to throw it out the window. My mind was so preoccupied I forgot to open it. I just leave the notebook on the side of my seat so he couldn’t get it. “What was that for?” “You need to lay back, relax, and just enjoy getting to know people. Stop taking notes for at least a day.” He huffs. “What’s your favorite color?” I say. “Black and white.” “Why?” “Black is the existence of all colors. White is the absence of all colors.” That started our incredible 3 hour long talk. We just asked each other questions. We were interrupted when Sevita got home, crying. Sevita I took Joseph quickly to the doctor. Shockingly when we got there, the doctor was able to take him immediately. There were barely any patients and his was more serious than any of the others here. The doctor gave him a cast for his arm and said he got lucky. He stopped the bleeding in his mouth. He also gave him some medicine for the pain to stop. Thank goodness he had insurance. When the doctor was done with him, we went out to the truck. He was able to walk fine. I however, supported him linking my right arm with his just in case he fell. He smiled at me. “Are you sure you’re ok?” I asked him. “Yeah,” he replied, still smiling at me. I walked him to the passenger side and he got in like nothing. I closed the door and walked to the driver’s seat. I closed the door and turned on the truck. I couldn’t take this anymore. Everyone was getting hurt. My father was dead, my sister and the detective were getting hurt emotionally, and Joseph got beat up. I started crying right in front of him, putting my head on the steering wheel. I hated crying in front of people, even my sister. It was sooo embarrassing. I hated it. When they looked at me and asked what was wrong, it made it even worse. He turned and put his good hand on my shoulder. I stayed there for a couple of minutes. Then I looked up at him. “I’m fine Vita,” he said, “I promise.” I hesitated before speaking again. “It’s not just you, there have been other things. You didn’t hear did you?” “Hear what?” he asked with a worry. I kept crying for a minute, and then finally decided to tell him. “My father died, Joseph,” I hesitated and then said, “I’m afraid my sister is next.” He quickly understood. He pulled me towards him and I turned the truck off. He hugged me for a minute. “Stop, I don’t want you to injure your arm even more.” “I don’t care, I can take it. Besides… we’re still by the doctor’s,” he said laughing. I laughed for a minute, too. Joseph always knew how to make me laugh, no matter how sad I was. He was the one that always was there when I needed him most. He finally released me and I turned the truck on. I talked to him on the way home. As I explained what happened to my father, tears kept rolling down. I wish they hadn’t but it was difficult to stop them. “So what else is on your mind?” he asked. He knew me so well. He knew when I didn’t include something or if I was avoiding something. “Well, the new detective we hired is… difficult.” “What do you mean difficult?” “Well, he’s been kind of rude and whenever I left my house, when he was there, my sister called and apparently it was on speaker. He heard that I said he was being rude and that he didn’t want to be there.” “Well, he deserves it,” he said with satisfaction. I looked at him as he was smiling at me. I quickly looked back at the road. “So, what happened with you?” “What do you mean?” “During your vacation.” “Oh. Well, I went to Hawaii…” “And?” “Nothing really. Just what you would expect.” “Ok?” “Vita, me and my family go every year… it’s gonna get boring,” he said laughing. I laughed too, even though I was still crying. “You can’t get it off your mind, can you?” he asked, worried again. I shook my head and started crying more. Of course I was silent; I didn’t want him to pay attention to it. There were two streets ahead, one lead to his house and one to mine. “Do you want to come over?” I asked. “Will it make you feel better?” “I don’t know… probably.” “Then you can be sure of it,” he said happily. I smiled. I took the left lane and drove us home. Apparently Genevieve was there waiting, after the last little incident that happened. I walked him in and held the door. Whenever I walked in, she was about to yell at me but when she saw I was crying, she was more emotional. She came up to hug me but I pushed her away. “I’m fine.”
Kyoya After Sevita left, Genevieve then came to comfort me. “Kyoya, you looked a little sick when you walked in and I’m pretty sure it was because of me my outfit, and my cooking,” she said. I quickly nodded my head no. She went to the kitchen and grabbed her keys. Somehow, we managed to get in her truck, and start a three hour talk, starting with favorite colors. I really learned a lot about her. She was a nice person after all. Was I warming up to her? After the really long conversation with Genevieve, we realized we were still in the truck. We got out, and went to the huge living room. Sevita suddenly entered the room crying. Genevieve ran up to her and tried to hug her, but Sevita pushed her away. “I’m fine,” she told her. Sevita turned to the door. She waved her hand, and started to smile. A young boy came in. He covered with bruises. He looked pretty beaten up. Suddenly, Genevieve’s face dropped. Sevita and her had a small conversation. Genevieve sighed, and let the boy in. “Welcome Joseph,” she said. “Thanks Gen,” he replied walking in. I reached in my pocket for my notes, when I realized they were still in the truck. What was I to do now? Genevieve walked them over to where I was sitting. “Joseph, this is our newest detective, Kyoya,” Gen said introducing us. “And Kyoya, meet Joseph, a really close friend of ours.” Quickly, I stood up and stuck out my hand. “Nice to meet you,” he said. “Vita told me some stuff about you.” “Likewise,” I replied. “And she has?” He nodded and chuckled. Who was this guy? I got to work analyzing him. Tall skinny male with shaggy black hair. Probably under twenty. “Are you checking me out?” he said. I glared at him. “Maybe in your fantasies,” I replied with a smirk of victory. “Genevieve, Sevita, thanks for having me over, I really must be going.” Without having to hear what they said, I went out through the front door. I got in my truck, and headed out the gates. A couple minutes later, I was home. I went inside my office, and started up my computer. Then I realized something. I had forgotten my notebook. It was too late now. Genevieve We’ve known Joseph since we were babies. His parents were really close friends to our mom. They use to work together before she died. They would always bring Joseph over and put him in our playpen and we would baby wrestle and share blocks and stuff. He was always there for us, but he was way closer to Sevita than to me. I truthfully thought they would have been dating by now, but I guess they’re both too shy to say anything. Joseph and Sapphire were our only two friends. Even though we’re rich we still don’t get a lot of people wanting to be our friends. I guess they don’t like the way we dress or the way we act. We’re called “freaks” or “Goths”, but the truth is, we’re neither one of those. We don’t always dress in black and we’re not always quiet. The feeling of strangers around me scares me and I don’t like to talk around them. My sister, well, she’s just uncomfortable around strangers too. I guess that’s why she doesn’t like to be around Kyoya. I think he’s pretty amazing. After that 3 hour talk, we got to know each other really well. I decided to let him do his job and just let everything fall into place. He’s sweet and interesting. He has a lot of sicknesses and dislikes, none apply to me, and he’s just something I’ve never seen before. He’s a few years older than my sister and I, but he’s already graduated and got a career. He was called a freak when he was in school as well because he had skipped a few grades. He was 14 when he graduated at School of Knowledge and Hobbies. It’s a very bland name, but it does have some amazing clubs. My sister and I attend Charlotte’s Honor High. It’s a private school that prepares you for college and all of that other crap. I hate school, always have and always will. School would be so much better if there were more understanding people who could just see that I wasn’t a freak and I wasn’t a Goth. I hear Joseph and Vita laughing. I wish I could make her laugh like that. All she ever wants to do is push me away and keep as much distance away from us as possible. She loves being with Joseph and Sapphire. I’m her sister! Why doesn’t she like being with me anymore? She doesn’t know that I killed our dad. I know that for sure because if she did, she would have already asked me why and yelled at me. I just want to be close with my sister again. I don’t get how everyone can comfort her, except me, and Kyoya, but that’s not my point. I’m kind of getting used to the idea of Kyoya being around to see our friends and our lifestyles so that he can help his case. Speaking of his case, he left his notebook in my truck. I walk to my truck and find the notebook right where I left it and I see the food lying in the backseat. I take the notebook, put it in my pocket and grab some trays of food. I go into the kitchen and trash them all. Kyoya wasn’t here to see me be greedy, selfish, and uncaring. I was only trying to impress him. I take a seat on the bubble chair hanging from the ceiling our dad just bought me. It’s bright orange and has a white edge around the lining. I flip open Kyoya’s notebook and check out his notes. They weren’t detective notes at all. It was like a journal with a few pages of interview questions and answers. He was an amazing artist. I think this one of a cute looking girl with a green stripe in her hair is Vita, but I could be wrong. He also had one that looked like me, but he could just be drawing us for profiling. It’s not like he likes me or anything. Sevita Kyoya finally left how embarrassing it was just to see him again. However, I was kind of sad he left too. It was obvious that my sister and he liked each other. I wish she could see it, it was sooo obvious. Joseph stayed, thank goodness. I don’t know what I would do without him. “Are you hungry… you didn’t eat anything at the doctor’s office?” “No, I’m ok,” he said as his stomach growled. We laughed together. “What do you want?” I asked. “Um… I don’t know. What do you have?” “In a minute…” I checked the fridge. We had nothing to eat. No salad, no pizza, absolutely nothing in the fridge. My sister must have forgotten that we need groceries. Great! Right when I was starting to get comfortable! Oh well, at least she was having fun with Kyoya. I walked back into the living room. “Apparently, we don’t have any food. Do you want to fast food or a home cooked meal?” “Either is fine,” he replied. “Ok, well I’m going to go the store then.” “Ok, I’ll go with you.” I took the keys and my pouch again. “Gen, Joseph and I are going to the store, is there anything you want?” “Can I come?” she asked. “Sure,” I replied. I opened the truck and got into the driver’s seat while Joseph got in the passenger’s. Gen got into the back and sighed. Joseph and I talked the whole time while Gen just sat there, bored. “So Gen how was your date with Kyoya?” I asked, smiling. “I never had a date with him!” “Uh huh, then how come you were flirting?” “I was not flirting!!!” Joseph started laughing. “Tel l me Joseph, did it or did it not look like she was flirting?” I looked at the mirror. She was angry, angrier than I have seen her before. Joseph turned back and looked at her as he smiled widely. “I think she was flirting,” he said as he laughed. She hit him on the back of the head, which made us laugh even harder. “I don’t see how it’s any of your business,” she said, directing it to Joseph, as an evil grin appeared on her face, “Besides, at least I don’t flirt with my best friend!” We stopped laughing immediately. I looked at him and he looked at me. We quickly looked away from each other. He doesn’t like me! He would never like me like that! I don’t know what she’s doing! Why is he quiet? Why can’t he tell her off or tell her ‘whatever’ like he usually does? This is not a good sign, not a good sign at all! I tried to change the subject quickly. “Joseph, what do you want to eat?” “I think he’s not hungry now, apparently he just wants to talk to you under the moonlight!” Gen said as her evil smile got wider. Again, he was quiet. As soon as we got in the H-E-B parking lot, I got out. I started walking away towards back home. I didn’t want to talk to her ever again! How dare she put me in this position! How dare she! If she was a true sister, she would have kept her mouth shut! I couldn’t believe this! Joseph even stood there quietly, nice Joseph. It was as if I went to the war alone without him and he just stood there, watching. Then right after the war, I was wounded and again… he stood there watching, silent. I couldn’t believe this! This was the worst day ever! I couldn’t believe this! How many bad things could happen in one day?!?!? Kyoya Thoughts rushed in my head. What if they were reading it? They weren’t even notes! Well some were, but still! There were drawings of suspects, and other random nonsense. Then I relaxed, remembering that I wrote in Japanese. They can’t read Japanese can they? Then I started to panic again! What if they can!? Suddenly, the door slid open. “Good evening master Kyoya, how are you?” said Alexander. “Good,” I replied. “You?” “Good, how was dinner?” “It was horrible! First impressions are everything, err, so I’ve read; and I made a horrible one! You know how I can’t stand Asian food right? Well Genevieve made some, and the smell was unbearable! You should’ve told them no Asian food unless the smell’s blocked out.” “I’ll remember that next time sir. So how were the twins?” “Genevieve was very kind and generous, but there was something about her that seemed off, like she was forced to act nice. Interestingly, she’s an incredible person. Can you believe we had a three hour conversation about random questions?” “That’s quite interesting, and Sevita?” “Well, she left during dinner, three hours later, brought home her best friend. Though it seems to me like a love interest.” “And what of this boy?” “Another possible suspect. After all, he did come home beaten and bruised. If I were to deduct the situation, he got into a fight at the mall, where Sevita found him, and took him to the doctor. The question of the day, why was he fighting?” “May I see the notes you took on him?” “Darn it, you know about the notes. Since today is the last Sunday of Christmas vacation, according to Genevieve, they are going back to school, meaning there’s no possible way to get the notes back.” “You could just attend their school, get the notes, and return home. Or you could-” “If that’s what it takes. I guess I’m going back to high school,” I said, cutting him off. “Thank you for your suggestion. I sighed, signing myself up to Charlotte’s Honor High. It looked like the Ouran High School, another school that said I wasn’t being challenged enough. Genevieve “Vita! Stop!” I rush over to her and grab her arm. I’m not going to let her run away from me again. She looks at me and then looks away. “If you want to talk about something that you don’t like about me or something I’m doing, then fine, but don’t run away from me every time I do something wrong! I know you like Joseph. I’ve known for a long time. You may not know, but I do. Besides, he likes you too. Don’t run away from him just because he’s shy and doesn’t know if you like him back. Just keep acting like friends or date. The worst thing that can happen is you two breaking up and then becoming friends again.” She looks up at me, rolls her eyes, and say, “Why do you keep ruining my life?” “Now I see how mom felt every time I’d say that.” I laugh. Sevita tries not to laugh. “I’m serious Gen. This afternoon you had someone at the house who didn’t even want to be there.” A truck honks at us. We move out of the road and sit on the sidewalk. “I didn’t make him. I asked if he wanted to go. His butler replied and said that he accepted the invitation. You know me better than anyone here. Why would you think I’d force someone to be where they don’t want to?” “I don’t know. You forced me to go to Sapphire’s.” “I thought you wanted to be there. Sapphire is one of your best friends.” “You knew I was not in the mood to be at a friend’s house.” “Oh, but you’re in the mood to bring a friend over.” “You know it’s not like that Gen.” “Yes it is. This whole day you’ve been distancing yourself from me. I don’t know why. I just want you to be happy, but I want you in my life. I want to be like the sisters we were. Just because dad died doesn’t mean our relationship has to die as well.” I know I hurt her with that comment, but she’s been hurting me with her actions. She starts crying. I didn’t know what to do at the moment. I just stared. Finally, after what seems as forever, Joseph walks over to where we were. “Is she ok?” “Why don’t you ask her yourself?” I walk off to let them talk. Over my shoulder I yell, “I’m going to go and start getting some food. Joseph you can spend the night. I’ll make us breakfast before school, but you need to get some clothes first. We don’t have any boy clothes at home. We’ll just eat out tonight. It’s too late to cook.” I don’t hear any remarks or suggestions so I keep walking and don’t turn back. Then, all of a sudden, I feel someone’s arms around me. I turn to look at the hugger. It was my sister. I hug her back. She lays her head on my shoulder and we both begin to cry. Joseph walks up to both of us and smiles at me. He mouths the words, “Thank you.” At the time I didn’t know what it meant and I didn’t want to. I just embraced the hug. She then pulled away and wiped away her tears. She turned around to Joseph and walked towards him. They walked to the sidewalk and sat down. I walk back towards the grocery store and think, “What would mom get us for a month’s worth of food?” Sevita I sat at the sidewalk with Joseph by my side. He hesitated but put his arm around me and looked away. I looked up at him and he finally looked back. I smiled and wiped my tears with my sleeve. He smiled back. “You ok?” “Yeah.” He looked away. I knew he wasn’t used to this and wanted to see how I would respond. I just kept staring and he finally turned to me again. “What?” “Nothing,” I simply replied. Even though, I wished he was romantic, he was cute trying to be. I wonder if I’d ever get used to this, his arm around me. It felt weird now. He knew all of my secrets, everything about me, he was my best friend. Some part of me though, thought this was right. He was the one for me. “So…,” he said, smiling. “So…,” I repeated. “Do you think we should walk home?” he asked, hinting obviously. “I guess so,” I replied. We stood up, while he released my shoulder. Shortly after however, he reached for my hand. We started walking towards home. “Don’t you think we should walk to your house first?” He was confused for a minute and stopped walking. “To get you some clothes.” “Oh, right.” We headed towards our new destination. It took us only thirty minutes to get there. Gen was no doubt still at the store. We needed so many groceries that it would take at least an hour. “Do you want to come in?” he asked, holding the door politely. “Sure.” I walked into his big house. Unlike Genevieve and me, he didn’t live with his parents. It was even bigger than mine and Genevieve’s. The inside had paintings that he had created. I loved his paintings. They were always creative but looked like someone took a photo. His usual pictures were black and white but occasionally he would paint some in color. I admired them while he grabbed some clothes. Then he came back in the room. “Do you want anything to drink?” “No.” Then he walked over to where I was standing and looked at his best picture. It was of his mother. She was wearing her dress and was sitting down on the beach, criss-crossed. Like others, this one, was in black and white. “I love that picture,” I said. He had sooo much detail into the big painting. It was most likely a 5’x3’. “I’m making a better one.” “I doubt that. This one’s beautiful. You got everything perfect.” “I don’t know, I think this one is gonna be best I have made.” I smiled and asked, “Can you teach me?” “Sure.” “Can I stay here for a while?” “Sure, I don’t see a problem.” I called Genevieve. Ring ring ring. Ring ring ring. She finally picked up. “Hello?” “Hey, are you almost home?” I asked. “No, I’m about to leave right now.” “Oh ok, see you later. Bye.” I hung up and quickly called Kyoya. “Hello?” he asked, answering immediately. “Hey, can you come by? Genevieve really wants to see you.” “Sure.” “Ok, bye.” I smiled and laughed, telling Joseph the scheme. He laughed too. “It’s nice, setting them on a set-up date.” Kyoya Sunday night boredom, nothing could be worse. I was still stuck in my office, with nothing to do. I checked my email several times, and found out I got accepted to the school. I started tomorrow. I did a little “programming”, and checked out Genevieve’s and Sevita’s schedules. Apparently, they had few classes together, and I had half the day with each of them. Doing even more “programming,” I started back on the case. My first suspect was Joseph. No, I wasn’t jealous, or anything, I mean seriously, anyone could be a possible suspect, including the twins themselves. I did a little background check, and it looked like he had a normal family. They go to Hawaii every year, according to their records and receipts. His dad was a very successful, and his mom was likewise. I did even further investigating, and checked all their vacations to and from Hawaii. Interestingly enough, nothing was out of the ordinary. They stayed at the same hotel, which made that easy. I checked the camera’s video footage from their room. Most of the time, they weren’t there, so I guess they were at a local beach or something. Thirty minutes and that was all I got. There was still no dirt on this guy. Suddenly, I had an idea. Quickly, I checked through the mall’s video records. Just what I needed, video evidence. I closely examined everything. I checked out the parking lot, where I deduct he was found by Sevita. Finally, I saw him and a group of people coming out of the mall. It looked like Joseph was carrying something in his hand. I was getting so close, when suddenly, my phone rang. I paused the security tapes, and looked at the Caller ID. It was Sevita. I answered without a second thought. “Mushi mushi,” I greeted. “Hey, can you come by? Genevieve really wants to see you,” she said with a small giggle. “Sure.” “Ok, bye.” That was strange. I quickly deduced that she was with Joseph. Also, that they were probably setting us up for a date. I groaned. I wasn’t so much of a social person, especially when it came to dating. I quickly came up with an idea. I picked up my phone, and called Sevita. She answered right away. “Nice try,” I said. “What are you talking about?” she asked sarcastically. “Isn’t it kinda late for a date?” “A date? I just invited you because of Genevieve! But if you want a date, a date it is!” “That’s not what I mean. I’ll go, but you and Joseph have to go too.” “Fine” she sighed. I smiled and hung up. This should be a great dinner. Then I called Genevieve and told them about Sevita and Joseph’s plan. We laughed, and I started to leave for their house. Genevieve I got off the phone with Kyoya. “Great!” I say to myself with much sarcasm. I was getting really tired of Sevita and her comments. Kyoya doesn’t like me! I knew that for a fact! I couldn’t go and I wouldn’t. I grabbed Kyoya’s notebook from my purse. I made an appointment with a translator who can write everything he had in there for me so that I could understand it. I knew nothing about Japanese. I made up my mind. I’m not going! I walk towards the truck satisfied with my decision. Then I realize, Vita has the keys. I sigh. I was going to have to walk. It wasn’t a problem for me. I was on the track team, but I didn’t want to carry all these groceries with me. I had no other choice. I pick up the phone and call Kyoya. He wouldn’t make me go on the date. “Hello.” “Mushi mushi.” “English please.” I laugh a little trying not to get connected to the guy that could pick up enough evidence to know that I’m a killer. “Hello.” “Oh ok. I don’t mean to interrupt anything, but is there any way you can pick me up?” He’s quiet for a few minutes. I hear keys in the background. “Where are you?” “I’m at the grocery store.” “Which one? There’s a ton of stores here.” “The Hurry Mart around the corner from my house.” “I’ll be there in a few minutes. Where’s Sevita?” “I don’t know. She has the keys.” “Ok. I’ll be right there.” “Ok. Bye.” He hangs up. I sit down with a cart of groceries next to me. How can this get any worse? This just makes us seem like a couple and we’re far from it. I don’t like him and he doesn’t like me. Why couldn’t Vita realize that? I hug myself. It was colder than usual. I just sit there like that for a few more minutes. Then, I see him drive up with a worried look on his face. I don’t know why he was worried. Maybe it’s because I have his “notebook”. He opens his door and stares at the cart full of groceries. I ask him to open the trunk. He finally snaps out of it and opens the back. Has he never seen that many groceries or something? I laugh. “What is it?” “Oh nothing. Just thinking.” I start putting the groceries in the back. He walks up to me and starts picking up groceries. He was helping me? I’ve never seen someone do that, well not a guy. I smile. We finally finished. I walk to the passenger side, but Kyoya walked faster. He opened my door and motioned me to sit down, I’ve never seen that either. “Are you okay?” “Yes I’m fine. Why do you ask?” “Maybe is because I’ve never seen a guy under 40 help a girl with groceries and opens her door for her.” He laughs. “I was raised that way.” As soon as he said that I started thinking about his childhood, his parents, and everything that makes him, him. I decided not to mention it. Maybe later. He pulls into my driveway. I open the door and get out of his truck. The trunk was already opened so I start grabbing groceries. He follows me into the kitchen. Then, we see Joseph and Sevita kissing on the couch. “That was fast,” I say not knowing how loud I was. I looked at Kyoya. His heartbreak showed in his eyes. Sevita Joseph and I were kissing on the sofa. It was our first kiss. “That was fast,” Gen said and I broke away from the kiss quickly. I look seeing that she and Kyoya were there. I blushed and Joseph took my hand. “Oh sorry, was I interrupting?” Gen asked, smiling widely. There was something I was missing in her expression though. Worry? Regret? I couldn’t really reach it, so I decided I would ask later. “No, it was your turn actually,” I said as Joseph and I got up, gesturing for them to sit on the love seat. They looked awkward and turned away from each other. I wish they would just get it over with already and tell each other that they loved each other. It was obvious. “Fine, not my loss.” “Vita, you have the keys.” “Oh, I’m sooo sorry.” There was something in her expression again. I think I should leave her alone with him for a while. “You know what, don’t worry about it. I’ll go get it right now.” “I’ll come with you,” Joseph said, not wanting to stay with the love birds. “Ok, well let’s go.” “We still have a double date,” Kyoya said, “How about you get it after? I could drive you if you would like.” “Sure,” Joseph said, agreeing to the arrangement. Surprisingly, Kyoya seemed annoyed by it now. He looked at Joseph for a minute and turned away. “So, what do y’all want to do?” Genevieve asked, changing the subject. “I think Joseph needs to eat, he’s already shaking,” I replied. He was shaking very little but it was bad to shake at all. I hated it when it happened to me. It was like food was victory or something. “What do you want to eat?” I asked, worried. “I think we should go out to eat,” he replied, “I’ll pay for everything.” Kyoya shook his head, “No, I’ll pay.” “No, it’s fine.” They stared at each other for a minute and I was scared. I held Joseph’s hand tighter. I didn’t want this to turn into a fight over a bill. Gen said nothing, just stared as well. “Fine,” Kyoya said. My hand softened. “I’ll drive,” I said. “You can’t, you don’t have your truck,” Kyoya said. “Well that means I have to go get it after all huh?” “Or, I can drive,” he said, smiling. “Alright,” I gave in, “But first, do you want anything now Joseph?” “Um… do you have some of your home cooked brownies?” Gen and I smiled. “Always!” we replied together. He smiled. “Then I’ll have some of those.” “Would you like some?” Gen asked Kyoya. “Um… no thank you.” “So now you’re won’t accept me and my sister’s cooking?” He was silent. “I would like to try one.” She smiled. “I’ll go get them,” I said as I walked towards the counter in the kitchen. Just like the rest of our house, it was big. The counters were marble and the dishes were china. We had shiny pots and pans hanging on the wall, for our use. I looked on the counter beside the fridge. I picked up the plate and took the aluminum off from covering the delicious brownies. I put the aluminum on the counter and walked back into the living room. “Here y’all go.” “Thank you,” they replied. After they finished the brownies, I sat the plate on the dining table and we were ready to go. “Where would y’all like to eat?” Gen asked. “How about the Italian restaurant, Olive Garden?” Joseph suggested. We all agreed and got into the truck. Kyoya drove apparently, while Gen sat in the front with him. Joseph and I sat in the back. It was awkward however, because Kyoya had his rear view mirror pointing directly at us. Then everyone was silent. “I can’t take this anymore! No one’s saying anything!” I said. “Ok, what do you want to talk about?” Gen asked, while turning to face me. “I don’t know, I just want someone to say something!” “Something,” Kyoya said. I stuck my tongue out at him. He smiled widely in response. Gen just sat there staring at me. Then Joseph finally sat by me. He acted like nothing happened-like we weren’t together! He said nothing and just looked away until now. He put his arm around me and smiled. I couldn’t help but smile in response. I looked at the mirror at Kyoya and thankfully, he was looking away. It’s embarrassing enough that Gen has to look. If Kyoya looked too, it would have been torture. “So, what do you like to do?” she asked Kyoya. Kyoya “So, what do you like to do?” Genevieve asked me. “I don’t really do anything,” I replied. “According to the GPS, the closest Olive Garden is fifteen minutes away, is that okay with you guys?” I looked at the mirror. Joseph was about to sneak a kiss on Sevita. I coughed and he immediately stopped. “Uh, sure, that’s fine, how about you Vita?” he said, awkwardly. Sevita nodded. I kept my eyes on the mirror, just glaring at them. Was I jealous? No way. Suddenly, I remembered I was driving, and started concentrating on the road again. The truck got quiet. I looked over at Genevieve. She was either really tired, or really bored. Then I heard some smacking in the back. Genevieve looked at me then checked out what was going on. “Wow Vita,” she started. “I never knew you had it in you.” Vita giggled and stuck her tongue out at her. Joseph looked really embarrassed, and turned to face the window. Then, remembering that I was still driving, I stopped looking at the mirror. Really? Again? That’s already been two make out sessions. I sighed, knowing that there was going to be more. Again, the truck got quiet. For the rest of the ten minutes, we all sat in silence, until we reached Olive Garden. “Did we really have to do this? Isn’t it getting kinda late?” I said stepping out of the truck. The three glared at me. I’m guessing that was a yes. We walked casually towards the entrance. Joseph and Sevita got there first, and Joseph politely opened the door for her. I rolled my eyes, and looked at Genevieve. I smiled as I got the door for her. She giggled. When we were inside, the place was barely packed. We waited for a while, and the waitress finally arrived. “How many, and under whose name?” “F-,” Joseph started. “Four,” I interrupted. “Kyoya Ryuzaki.” “I thought I was paying,” he said, looking at me dead in the eyes. “Too late.” I smiled victoriously as the waitress took us to our tables. “So what do you guys want to drink?” she asked. Joseph and Sevita agreed to white wine. Genevieve asked for a strawberry daiquiri. I asked for water. They all looked at me. “I’m driving us back remember?” I told them. “Alright-y then, I’ll be back in a minute to take your order, here are the menus!” After she left, we each took our individual menus. Then, we agreed on what we were getting. After that, the table was silent. I saw the table cloth move on Jason and Sevita’s side. I guessed they were holding hands, and by the way they looked at each other, I’m guessing I was right. “So Joseph, how was Hawaii?” I asked breaking the silence. “How’d you know that?” he replied shocked. “Are you stalking me?” “It’s not stalking, it’s investigating” The girls laughed, and the waitress returned. Genevieve I couldn’t believe I was actually on this date. It was fun and all, but it was more awkward then anything. I was just the third wheel while Vita, Joseph, and Kyoya were in this love triangle. I didn’t like it one but. I guess I thought about it too much because seconds later I became very nauseous. I excused myself from the table. Vita got up to follow, but I told her I’d be fine and to sit back down. She did as asked and I walked off towards the bathroom. I just stood there like an idiot. I looked at myself in the mirror and occasionally splashed myself with water. How was I supposed to get through this? After 10 minutes, Vita comes in to check on me. She was laughing and smiling when she came in. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing.” I try not to look upset or anything, but Kyoya was giving her so much attention. I’m not jealous or anything, but he was supposed to be my date. I know I didn’t want to be here, but now that I am he should be at least a smudge more discreet about his feelings toward Vita. I walk out of the bathroom, Vita following me. Kyoya looks back when he heard our footsteps. “You alright?” “Just fine,” I say a little too sarcastically. He looks at me with the same worried face he gave me at the store. “I’m fine,” I say again with more enthusiasm. It didn’t help that Joseph and Vita were holding hands again. Every time they do something romantic, Kyoya looks over and has even more pain and devious attitude in his expressions. I take a couple of sips from my drink hoping it will ease the pain a little. Whenever a guy did notice one of us he always either liked Vita more or liked her first. I was always matching her up with people or at least trying to. When was it going to be my turn, I think. I look away from all three of them. The nausea came back again. I wasn’t running to the bathroom again though. I stood up. “Kyoya, I’m sorry for wasting your time coming over here. Thanks for the help with the groceries. Vita and Joseph see you at home.” I start to walk away. I hear chairs scooting from below the table. Then, I faintly here Kyoya tell them to sit down. He runs up to me just as I’m leaving the restaurant. “Where are you going?” “Home.” “How are you going to get there?” “I can call a cab.” “I’m not letting you take a cab.” “Well you’re going to have to.” I keep walking. “Gen, what’s wrong?” “Nothing.” “You’re walking out of a restaurant. Something has to be wrong.” I stop and look up at him. He’s looking back at me. “I’m not feeling well,” I say telling him the truth – technically. “I’ll order you water. It should help, but please don’t leave. I promise I’ll take you straight home afterwards.” I don’t know why he wanted me to stay so bad. “Fine.” He smiles and I can’t help, but to smile back. We walk back to the table, our hands so close I can feel his body heat. I look at Vita. She looks at me, eyes filled with worry. Sevita I looked at Gen. She looked horrible, like she was about to throw up. She sat down and so did Kyoya. “Gen are you sick?” She just looked up with a pleading face. “I’ll take you home,” I said getting out of my chair. “No, I’m fine,” she responded. “You really look like you need to go home.” “No,” she said, but looked nauseated. I walked out of my chair and out of the restaurant. “Where are you going?” Joseph asked me. “Home.” “No, please stay?” “No, I’m sorry. You know you could probably bare my sister getting sick and doing nothing about it, but I can’t.” He finally understood where I was going with this. “Why don’t we take her home?” Joseph asked. “You know that she’s gonna refuse!” He was silent. “Gosh, I wish I planned this on a different day.” He put his arm around me, “I’ll take you home.” “No, I’m fine. I wanna go home alone. I need to think.” “Ok,” he said and slowly walked into the restaurant. I walked to the house. Why is she doing this? I mean she liked him and all but she might as well take some medicine at least. I mean come on. Even I have enough common sense to do that. I turned around to make sure they didn’t come out because of me. They didn’t, thankfully. I hated it when they were there just asking you what was wrong and asking you to come back. Only certain times I wish they would, but this wasn’t one of them. I decided to go back home and get some medicine and then come back. It would be at least an hour or two. The hour getting back was cold. I never knew it was this cold at night. I hugged my shoulders as I walked home. It wasn’t that far to me. I walked a lot but I was never an athletic person. I walked all the way home. I opened the door with the key in my pocket and went inside. I went into the restroom cabinet and took out the medication. I went back outside, locking the door, with the medicine in my pouch. I walked outside and started my way to the restaurant. It was warmer now, especially because I had my jacket this time. I loved it outside. I started jogging on the sidewalk. It wasn’t that bad, barely any cold air touched my face. I could have done this all day, well maybe not all day, but it was fun. The moon was out. It was my favorite thing in the sky. I wish Joseph had painted it. He would have done a marvelous job. I kept my eye on the moon and kept jogging but finally stopped. I heard an engine behind me and it stopped as well. Who was following me? I slowly turned around and saw a strange man in the truck. He had a beard and a mustache. He looked kind, but you never know what he is like inside. I started jogging for a minute again and the truck started to start aga
