Treeroot's parchment pages
I think I'll just write my novle here so i don't loose it. All my ideas are coppyright.
A Change of Colour
The gang had gathered in Treeroot’s underground tree house a week later, Treeroot and Aimée where staring at Emma with disbelief, and Blingko was rolling on the floor laughing,
“You did what?” Treeroot was yelling, Emma bit her lip and started to explain,
“I thought I had made the perfect concoction, it was supposed to enhance muscle growth and strength, and I thought I had worked out all the kinks, but there was one thing I must have over looked, because now instead of being muscular, Andy’s...well he’s...um...”
“Blue.” Finished Treeroot, which sent Blingko off into another round of giggles. Aimée didn’t know what was stranger, the fact that Emma somehow made a drink that had turned Andy’s skin blue, or the fact that there was a laughing cat at her feet. She looked up at Andy; he was wearing a big coat with the collar up, long pants, sunglasses, a big hat and gloves to cover his skin. She stepped towards him and pulled of his hat and sunglasses, Well, she thought, at least it’s a nice shade of blue. Blingko had started to slow down his giggle fit but as soon as he saw how blue Andy was he laughed so hard Aimée was worried he’d burst. “Wow, he is blue.” Said Treeroot, then her face changed to one of a mischievous imp and ran to a tree-door that was two trees wide and slid sideways, and ran out with a handful of blue paint tubes, she held up one after the other, until she found the one that looked exactly like Andy’s new skin and shouted triumphantly, “Ha, I knew it, ‘ENCHANTED BLUE’, nice choice.”
“I don’t wana be ‘ENCHANTED BLUE’, I wana be normal skin colour.” Andy Protested.
“What’s with hiding behind your clothes?” Aimée asked, Andy looked at her,
“I might ask you the same question.” she looked down, Aimée’s hair was now completely purple, and had started going different shades, it stopped growing when it got to her elbows, and she couldn’t keep it shorter or longer than that. Andy took advantage of her deep thought and ripped of her hat, her purple hair fell down and her face fell into her hands. They’re going to ask me about why my hair’s purple and then I’m going to have to tell them about my defect. Strangely there was silence, Aimée looked up and into the gob smacked faces of her friends, and even Blingko had stopped laughing.
“There’s something you’re all not telling me, isn’t there.” She said through her fingers as her hands slowly slipped down her face,
“Blingko,” said Treeroot, not taking her eyes of Aimée’s hair, “get the Book.” He nodded but still sat there. Treeroot gently kicked him, “Get the Book.” She said again, Blingko looked up and Aimée thought she heard him say ‘Hum? Oh.’ Before quickly running to the library and coming back dragging a very large, old, and musty, book with his tail, it was about a foot and a half wide, two feet long and at least a foot thick.
“What’s that?” Aimée asked as Treeroot took the book from Blingko,
“It’s called ‘The Gemtan book of Magic’ but we usually call it the Book,” she explained, quickly shifting through the parchment pages, “unfortunately it most of its pages are written in different languages and there’s only a handful of then written in English. Some of the pages are written in my language, so Blingko, Max and I can read more than Emma or Andy, but the disturbing thing is that you're hair and its new colour looks remarkably like one of the Gemtan in the book, I’m just wondering if it’s a coincidence.” Aimée reached out to the old book,
“What’s a ‘Jemtam’? Sounds like some kind of jam filled Tim-tam.”
Gemtan.” Treeroot corrected as she pulled the book from Aimée’s grasp, “They’re only five at one time in the entire universe. They’re- magical women, bestowed with power over one element each; Earth, Fire, Air, Water, and Electricity. They’re eyes and hair share the colours of their birth gem; a crystal there either born with or connect with before they fully mature. The colours stay the same; Blue, Red, Orange, Purple, and Green, but the most of crystals change. The only one that always stays the same is Amethyst. Gemtan usually live secretly, traveling the universe, finding inhabited planets and living in the naive planets community. The last publicly known Gemtan on earth was Garnet, the red Gemtan. In the Middle Ages in France; she was burnt at the stake for witchcraft, and no one knows if she had any children. If your hair is the one from this Gemtan, you might be a descendant of her. All this technical explanation is making me sound like Emma.” She added worryingly. Oh boy, Aimée thought, here they go again. Emma’s eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms, even though she was at least a foot shorter than everyone else she was imposing.
“And what, exactly, is wrong with the way I sound?” she asked.
“You sound like an old science professor, to tell you the truth.” Treeroot said honestly.
“And you have more scratches on your face than a broken CD, to tell you the truth.”
“At least I don’t send people to sleep with my voice.”
“At least I don’t look like Medusa’s younger sister.” They have way to much fun arguing. While the two were fighting; Blingko looked up at Andy and snickered.
“What are you laughing at, red head?” Andy complained, Blingko said something and Max translated;
“Nothing. I’m just wondering why you look so sad.”
“Well, that’s a lot coming from a red and yellow cat.” Andy argued, but Blingko wasn’t backing down.
“Well I can read without moving my lips, what can you do?”
Aimée looked around, No one seems to care that I might be one of those...Gemtan things, or a descendent from one. She thought, They’re all having too much fun arguing. Treeroot had put down the old book somewhere in the argument, Aimée stared at it, Well, she figured, there’s no harm in looking. Aimée reached out for the book, but as soon as she touched it the book flung open and a gust of wind blew out of the book and lifted Aimée into the air, she screamed as the current of air lifted her to the roof. Five different coloured glowing spheres with pictures on them shot out of the book and started spinning around her; there was an orange fireball, a blue orb of water, a purple miniature tornado, an oddly shaped green leaf, and a ball of red lightning. Suddenly the ground started rumbling and shaking and from underneath Aimée grew a very brightly glowing amethyst, it was bigger than a fist but so bright you couldn’t tell what shape it was, it shot from the ground and stopped right in front of the levitating girl, it pulsated warmly. One of the five orbs stopped spinning right behind the floating crystal; it was the purple tornado. Aimée felt a strong energy pulse from the amethyst in time with her heartbeat. Hesitantly she reached out to the glowing crystal. Like a magnet, the crystal zoomed to her outstretched hand, as soon as she touched it the crystal seemed to explode with light and wind. Emma, Andy, Treeroot and Blingko where all blown back, the wind passed strait through Max, but that didn’t stop the blinding light getting to him.
As quickly as it came the light vanished leaving all of them on the floor blinking the spots out of their eyes. Treeroot was the first to see what had happened to their floating friend; Aimée was lying on her side with her eyes closed, her hair had changed back to her normal brown but her skin was very pale, she was barely breathing and looked like snow white after shed bitten into the apple, the Gemtan book of magic lay open in front of her.
“Aimée!” Treeroot called, as she ran over on all fours. She knelt down and lifted Aimée’s torso off the ground and she let her friend’s head rest on Treeroot’s shoulder, “Can you hear me? ...Open your eyes... Squeeze my hand...” Treeroot said shoving her hand in Aimée’s. Nothing happened. Treeroot hung her head and closed her eyes. “Please...” she begged, breathlessly, “Please do something.” Treeroot’s eye’s snapped open, she drew in a quick breath and looked at her hand, Aimée’s thumb was slowly moving, then something captured Treeroot’s eye, it was an amethyst crystal orb. It was rough and defiantly not manmade but Treeroot had never heard of a crystal growing into a sphere, she picked it up and as she brought it closer, Aimée was able to squeeze Treeroot’s hand and half open her eyes. Out of the corner of her eye Treeroot saw the Gemtan book of magic and realized what she was holding, she stared at the amethyst with disbelief, “A birth gem?” she placed the gem in Aimée’s hand and colour immediately flooded back into her face. She smiled, and asked weekly,
“Does this happen to everyone that touches that book, or am I just lucky?” They both laughed and Treeroot looked up to see if the others were OK. Blingko had hooked his claws into the ground but the wind had matted his fur up terribly and he was now trying to get it to stick down again, Max was rubbing his eyes, and Andy was trying to untangle himself from his coat. Emma, however, must have been blown about dreadfully, and was now on her back under one of the only hunting trophies Treeroot kept in her home, with her feet sticking out. After Andy got himself untangled Treeroot got his attention.
“You’d better see to Emma, she looks like the wicked witch of the east after she’d been squashed by Dorothy’s house.” Andy swiftly ran over and lifted off the trophy to see if she was alright. “Ah,” said Treeroot pointing, “my first moose. No wonder it’s so big.”

After Emma had gained consciousness, Treeroot asked Aimée if she had done anything magical that might be related to the Gemtan. Once she told them about what she’d been doing she hung her head and added,
“But I didn’t mean to do any of it, it just happened. Well, aside from hitting Alex in the head with his bag.” Treeroot placed a reassuring hand on Aimée‘s shoulder and smiled.
“Don’t worry,” she reassured, “I can do a little magic to.” Aimée looked at her friend.
“Really? What kind?”
“Well, I can’t cast spells like you can,” she expanded, “but most of the pages in my language are recipes for magic powders, potions and enchantments, like the healing potion.” Unexpectedly Blingko let out a loud and important sounding ‘Meow’. Everyone looked at the small cat, his eyes were bugging out of his skull and his jaw was hanging open as he stared into the Gemtan book of magic. “What’s wrong Blingko?” Treeroot asked, Blingko said a few meows and growls without looking up, Treeroot’s brow wrinkled with confusion, “Well...Yes, I was thinking of Amethyst when I saw Aimée’s hair, there’s no other purple Gemtan. Why?” he spoke again and Treeroot started walking towards him, “Look at what?” as soon as she saw what Blingko was staring at her face mimicked his, and quickly looked between Aimée and the book. Aimée walked over to see what the fuss was about; her face followed the trend when she saw who was pictured in the book. I think I might be able to do more than just make things float... she thought as she read aloud the English caption under the sketch of a girl with purple hair and eyes: “The only known portrait of the prophesized; ‘Companion Gemtan’ that will befriend angles, spirits, androids and Lydrags, and with her tremendous power she will keep her companions safe from even the strongest foe. She has often been foreseen battling humanoids with firearms when young and other worldly creatures when older. Logically, by colour, this is a portrait of a future Amethyst.” Aimée thought as she bit her lip, Logically, by face, this is a portrait of the future me.
