Trying hard not to blog...
Top 7 Favorite Fanfics.
Top Seven Fanfictions You've Read
aka "How Deep the Rabbit Hole Goes"

This is in no particular order. I'd like to have them ranked, but that'd involve me finding reading some of them again, and I don't think my nostalgia could take that.

Unraveled
by Jeanny
Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel
K+

Timeline plants this story post-S6, but this came out before the season ended, I think. The story itself follows Angel (as William Chase, lol) as he infiltrates a psychiatric clinic to talk to a Jane Doe who calls herself Buffy Summers.

Why I like the story is because it pulled you into how Buffy got to where she was, and then delivers a gut-punch ending. This particular story I didn't find on the internet, it was actually e-mailed to me by someone I knew. Thankfully Fanfiction.net had it anyway.

Generations
by Macspooky
The X-Files
Rated R

This is probably the first "mega series" I actually got into; "mega" because there's something like 35 chapters in it. It basically details Mulder and Scully hooking up, getting married, having kids, and yet still continuing The Fight For Truth. It gets into (the author's) interpretation of their relationship, the mental and emotional trauma they have (and have to get past), and the wackiness that ensues. It also involves Skinner as a psuedo-father figure for Mulder, Scully's family, and apparently a long-lost aunt (lol OC) of Mulder's.

I liked it because it was written well, and while a few things look a bit heavy-handed in retrospect, it was fun to read.

Just a Game
by Parda and Nightsky
Highlander: The Series
Rated K+

This one is basically a short story starring Methos, where he's remembering the origins of "The Game", while MacCleod is trying to help out a freshly born Immortal.

I liked it because it offered a fresh perspective on the origins since that was never actually covered in the series (or the movies) to that point, but brought it down to Earth since while Immortal, all the players are still essentially human.

The Magician
by Jennifer Lyon and Susanne Bickerstaffe
The X-Files
Rated R, with one X-chapter towards the end, I think.

Ultimately, it's a Romance-fic with Mulder and Scully, but most of the time it's in a parallel DnD world where apparently Mulder is a wizard and Scully is a healer/warrior. Now, it does start off "normal", with Our Heroes investigating the appearance of a strange creature in a science lab. One magic spell/portal jump later, and they're in a different land and all that entails. Of course they do get home as well, but wackiness/hilarity ensues there as well, with dimension hopping happenings as well as battles, secret experiments, misunderstood parents, gun fire, sidekicks, fairies, untested kings, and a long lost Wizard.

I liked this one because I think I was into that sort of thing (both TXF and the magic/medieval) at the time, so mixing them was SUPER-AWESOME. Who knows if it's aged well since then.

In Retrospect
by K. Mendoza
Cowboy Bebop
T for Teen

This one is basically a self-insertion where the author goes to find the crew of the Bebop 10 years later for a magazine article, to find out if what happened in Faye Valentine's novel "Hard Luck Woman" was actually true. There's essentially 3 parts (though 6 chapters), with the author tracking down Faye, Ed, Jet... and wrapping up the story in it's own way.

If I was ranking, this probably would be #1 on the list. I've actually read this one more than once.I like the way that Mendoza handles the characters (though it gets a bit sappy at the end), but doesn't make it feel forced. Of course, with Cowboy Bebop ending like it did, the fic had to be mindful of a couple things... and it was.

The Cycle of Axer Carrick
by Henry Wyckoff
Primarily a Highlander/The X-Files/Forever Knight crossover. Primarily.
Rated R

I don't really know how to describe this one, so I'll just go with what the website says:
Quote:
A drunk, out-of-work scientist is brutally murdered in the dark streets of Toronto, and Nick Knight and Don Schanke are given the case. But when Nat's autopsy doesn't go quite as planned, FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are called in to take a look.
And that's just the first chapter. Later on, Ragnarok shows up (End of the world, not the game) and other stuff happens.

I liked this one because it was a crossover with Highlander and X-Files; initially anyway. Then I got into the Norse mythology, and Yggadrasil (it's like Sliders!), and there was some Physics stuff in there and it was definitely weird and a bit creepy in spots, but I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the hell out of it overall.

S3
by Ihavenoidea
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Rated... T?

I can't find this one after a Google search, probably because the name is too generic, and I don't remember the author's name. But basically this came out Post-S2, with the author taking what had happened and running with it to make their own storyline. For example, Faith never showed up, but instead the next Slayer was named Medea, who was from Italy.. I think. God, I think that's all I can remember about it. It was an AU for sure, and multiple chapters and there was some Buffy/Xander lovin'.

Since I remember ******** about that one, I offer a 7.5, Shinji and Warhammer 40k. It's not a crossover in the strictest sense, but more of a "What if Shinji found that game when he was a small child?" I haven't finished it yet (Chapter 35!) because it's getting more into the WH40k which I know little about, but up until this point it's been entertaining in an over-the-top way.

And I'd like to thank The Internet, without you none of the links here would have been possible. Except the Cowboy Bebop story, I practically have that one bookmarked.
