SETTING

Rosenville is a small town with a dark secret. In the days of the Salem Witch Trails, three accused families fled and established this town. They changed their names and created fact backgrounds for themselves and their families and did the same for anyone who fled to their town. Quickly, the town became well known among those with dark secrets as a place to truly start new, and they soon as a fake population that had supposedly lived there forever.

Those three families controlled the people of Rosenville, as the pillar support for their economy, the source of power and protection, and as being the ones who created new backgrounds for people and had the only proof of the change. With this, they coudl blackmail the townspeople to do whatever they wanted. Back in those days, people who didn't cooperate suddenly "vanished"--- murdered without there being any proof that they ever existed there. The residents carried out the murders, the Mewbell (now "Ross" wink family erased records of them, and everyone acted like they'd never existed.

It was the worst way to die, without even a funeral.
According to legends, townspeople even cooked and ate the bodies at times, to leave absolutely no remains.

However, the Church did eventually catch wind of one person in Rosenville. They recieved a tip that a woman accused of witchcraft, Aura Mewbell, had fled there. They began investigating the town throroughly and put everyone's backgrounds in danger. So Aura Mewbell, posing as Gene Ross at the time, had her young daughter mark "Gene Ross" as having died in childbirth and then "discover" the location of Aura Mewbell. Her daughter turned her in and the investigations stopped. Aura Mewbell was burnt at the stake in the Rosenville townsquare and the Church left.

This isn't what went town in the history books, though. While the current day knows that names changed, it's been so long that families don't know what they used to be called. Their town no longer controls them because they are so far from their dark past that they do not even know what that past was. The truth behind Aura Mewbell's death has also been lost over the ages. Now, only the truth written in the books is acknowledged; that a child from the Ross family located Aura Mewbell in their town. That Aura Mewbell had been a real witch, and not just an innocently accused, who murdered the other Mewbell family memebers and tried to reestablish herself in Rosenville. That she planned to use them all as puppets. And that she was rightfully executed.

There's also another lie in the history book. That Aura Mewbell had sworn as she was burnt alive to curse the families of everyone who had betrayed her and led to her death. And in three centuries (1993-ish), she would wreck havoc upon their families and bring her curse down on the town that had betrayed her.

The curse seemed to begin in 1992. It has been five years since it began, now 1997.

This story takes place in December.
