my story
"Hey! Killin," Iris shouted waving her hand madly in the air. A rather cute, brownish blonde sat on the stairs of the First Merit. His hair fell over his left eye in a sort of laid-back elegance; he had hazel eyes and an easy smile that could light up a room. He smiled at the girls and stood up, stepping off the steps to the relief of a frazzled looking accountant.
"What are you ladies up to so early in the day?" He asked. His was a smooth baritone that reminded Iris of melting chocolate.
"Going to lunch," Natasha replied coolly. Composure was something Natasha always fought hard to accomplish. It was impressive to people if you didn't show any emotion and Natasha lived to impress.
Killin glanced at his watch then gave them a skeptical look. “It's 10:30am." He stated flatly.
"We're going to brunch." Corona put in matter-of-factly. Natasha gave her a smile that clearly said ‘nice one'.
"Yeah, you wanna come?" Iris asked her tone was suggestive and her smile was inviting.
Killian scratched the back of his head, messing up his already mussed long hair. "Well I don't know…" he trailed off.
"Please Benji?" Iris said her lower lip was stuck out farther than normal but not far enough that she looked like she had a fat lip; her eyes were wide and pleading. The Standard puppy dog pout, worked every time.
Benji Killian sighed and looked back at the bank. "I'm kind of waiting for someone and I can't really leave-“
"Leave the man alone you harpies." A playful voice said from entrance of the bank.
Natasha smirked then turned, things suddenly got interesting. "Well well well, look who we have here ladies." She said moving to the head of the group where she rightfully belonged. Iris and Corona fell into rank behind her and giggled. "If it isn't Prince Aiden himself."
Aiden, a tall blonde with lovely blue eyes smiled at her. "What are you doing here Natasha; I was sure that Veelas only came out at night?"
Natasha placed a hand on her heart in mock hurt. "You hurt me Aiden, really you do." She smiled. She had known Aiden since the fifth grade, and this never got old. Okay well the truth was she may kind of sort of liked him for a little while…well okay maybe since the fifth grade but that's not the point. “We were just on our way to brunch you want to come?"
Corona's little stomach growled and she frowned. “Can we hurry this along I'm hungry," she whined.
Aiden smiled he was enjoying the attention; he didn't want to make a decision just yet. He looked at each of the girls one-by-one, he had known them for six years. They had been very tight as kids some things never change.
“Um I had to interrupt your fantasy about me but we kind of need an answer." Natasha said and snapped Aiden out of his daze.
Aiden rolled his eyes. “Answer for what?" He was doing that on purpose. Aiden really was a smart guy, but being smart was out so dumb blonde was the way to go.
Natasha pursed her lips in annoyance. “If you want to act stupid then go somewhere else." She said coldly. She hated it when he did that. She turned on her heel with every intension of walking away from him when she caught the eye of a brunette walking up the street. Natasha smirked and a brilliant idea hatched in her head. “Hey Melanie, over here!" Natasha shouted and waved at the brunette.
Melanie Peters, a curly haired brunette waved back nervously. Something she was not used to was the attention from the James High A-list, better known as the Beautiful People. Melanie wasn't on the A-list; she was hardly on the B-list. Being of middle class she was on the lower rung of the social ladder. She was going to James on a scholarship, one of few. She was highly intelligent but that doesn't get you very far socially, unless of course the beautiful people at your school are also members of the chess club, which is highly, HIGHLY unlikely.
Natasha motioned for her to come over and talk with them. Melanie hesitated. Natasha's entire posse was with her. First there was Iris Garrah, she was the brains behind the operation although she didn't look like much but she was the smart one, she was pretty, smaller than size five, rich, and could make you cry faster than Natasha could whip out her credit card during jewelry sale at Tiffany & Co.
Corona Theodoric, also called Cory was the cute innocent one; she was a perfectionist, pretty and can insult you to tears before you even realized it was coming. But unlike the other two she was...well...poor. Her father, a wealthy business man, plus her mother, a bar dancer, plus a one night stand equaled Corona. Corona was born in a bar during the blister cold of December and had her mother to thank for her "unique" name. But she was loyal and pretty so she earned her place among the others.
Natasha was the leader, no question about it, although they switched up the ranks while they walked just to confuse people. She was defiantly the richest one in the trio and the guys of James Academy had also dubbed her the hottest. She was quick and witty and all the girls wished they could be exactly like her, including Melanie.
Then there was Aiden Alexander Bristow, the school's heartthrob. He modeled for Abercrombie & Fitch in the summer and was also known as Prince Bristow because of his enormous wealth. He was often seen with the girls but the rich kids usually hang out together anyways. Aiden's sister, Samantha Bristow, or Gemini as she was usually called was also a part of this group but she seemed to be missing at the moment, which relieved Melanie a great deal. Samantha Nicole Bristow wasn't nearly as cruel as the others but there was something about her that gave one the feeling of being insignificant. Luckily she was somewhere in Europe looking for herself.
And then there was Benji, perfect Benji. Well actually his name was Benjamin Bradley Killin III. Melanie knew everything there was to know about him. His favorite color was red, he had natural dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes, he played basketball all year round, his best friend was Aiden Bristow and best of all he was currently single. He was the one that worried Melanie the most. But he was smiling at her, oh his smile was beautiful!
“Melanie, are you coming or not?" Natasha asked and smiled. Her long raven black hair was silky and gracefully straight. No wonder Aiden liked her so much.
Melanie smiled at them and quickly walked over not wanting to pass up this once in a lifetime chance. “Hey," she said quietly.
Natasha smiled, Melanie wasn't much of a talker she was more of a smart silent beauty. “Hello," she said simply.
“Hey," Iris said nodded following Natasha's lead as always.
Corona nodded to her and smiled. This was going better than Melanie thought but she dared not get her hopes up to far.
Benji smiled and she almost fainted, “Hey." He said easily and nodded once. Aiden on the other hand said nothing and glared at her. Obviously inviting her over wasn't his idea. Natasha smiled and stepped on his feet with her heels.
Aiden winced and bit his lip, showing weakness was not cool. “Hey." He mumbled. Melanie had to suppress the urge to giggle. Well she knew who wore the pants in this relationship.
“So what are you up to Melanie?" Natasha asked politely. Melanie wasn't sure what to say. She was confused, why the sudden interest in her? She wasn't anyone special was she?
“Shopping." She said as coolly as she could. She stood up straight and held her head up trying to mimic the way Natasha carried herself.
“Oh Really?" Natasha said and smiled. “Well we were just about to go out for Brunch, would you like to join us?"
If Melanie had been drinking water she would have been spit it out right then. This couldn't be happening; Natasha Guelph wanted her to go to brunch with them! Melanie couldn't reply for a while this was shocking.
Aiden was just as shocked. What was Natasha doing inviting Melody or whatever her name was to come eat with them? She couldn't even afford a glass of water from the place they usually ate.
“Well, I'm kind of here with my friends…" Melanie trailed off. She really, really wanted to go eat with them. This was her chance to be someone.
Natasha shrugged. “Bring them too," It didn't matter much to her. Eight people, ten people, whatever.
“Are you sure?" Melanie asked. She didn't think bringing her friends would be such a good idea. Her best friend Ethan and her brother Blake didn't like Aiden at all nor did they care for Natasha.
“Yes I'm sure, Eric and Blake right?" She said carelessly.
“Ethan." Melanie corrected.
Natasha nodded. “Right, so are you coming or not?" she said her patience was growing thin.
Melanie bit her lip; she had to make up her mind fast. Finally she nodded, this was her chance and she wasn't about to pass it up.
Natasha smiled. “Great! We're going to Studio nine." Studio nine was the most expensive restaurant in the city but everyone who was anyone ate there. It was then that Melanie realized she didn't have that kind of money on her.
“I just remembered..." Melanie trailed off feeling terribly embarrassed. “I didn't bring any money with me."
Aiden snorted. “What a shock-oww!" He glared at Natasha who had stepped on his foot again.
Benji hid a laugh behind his hand. “That's alright, lunch is on me." He shrugged carelessly. It wasn't a huge deal to him anyways.
Melanie's heart skipped a beat. Benji was going to buy her lunch? This had to be a dream. “Oh, thank you." She said breathlessly and smiled at him.
Benji shrugged. She didn't really know this girl all that much seeing how she wasn't rich and all. But she was in his Calculus class and all he knew about her was that she was wicked smart and her two best friends were guys, Ethan Ricker and her brother Blake Peters, both of which were basketball players. Basketball was huge at James, Benji and Aiden both played. Aiden, who had to be the best at everything or else he would throw a fit, had lost the position of captain to Ethan and he wasn't too thrilled about that. But Benji really didn't care he thought Ethan deserved it but of course he couldn't tell Aiden that.
“Melanie!" someone called out her name from behind the group. Melanie turned around. Ethan and Her brother were walking towards them and he didn't look that thrilled. Melanie bit her lip, uh-oh. Ethan and Aiden did not get along at all and that was putting it nicely.
“Oh, hey Ethan." She said quietly. She had a feeling that her moment in the spotlight of the James High A-list would be going downhill, soon.
“Hey Blake," Iris said. She was smiling at him as flirtatiously as she could. Natasha mentally groaned. She hated it when Iris got all flirty, that meant she got all giggly, like she was tipsy or something, it was so annoying.
Blake smiled back at her. Natasha had to admit that he was kind of cute. He sort of looked like Adam Broody except in a suburban sort of way. Curly brown hair and delicious brown eyes she didn't blame Iris from liking him, the boy was positively luscious.
Aiden on the other hand didn't look like he agreed. He hadn't said anything yet but keeping quiet was going get harder now that Ricker was here. But he was going to try, Natasha obviously wanted something from them and he didn't want to risk making her mad. Aiden hated it when Natasha was mad at him. Well then again, no one liked it when Natasha was mad at them; she got to be quite scary.
“Melanie could we talk to you?" Ethan said quietly, he was definitely mad. Melanie sighed, well there goes her big moment, thanks a lot Ethan.
“Can you give me a minute?" she asked as confidently as she could. She walked off with Ethan and Blake trailing behind her. They walked just out of earshot so Natasha would know that she was coming back.
“What are you doing with them?" Ethan hissed. Melanie rolled her eyes.
“I think I am very capable of taking care of myself thank you." She snapped, “Since when is it your business who I talk to anyway?"
Ethan seemed a little taken a back by her snapping. “Well I'm sorry I care about you!" he spat back.
Melanie sighed, she really didn't want to get into a fight but didn't he see that this was her chance? Maybe her only chance, guys just didn't get the importance of social status. “Ethan, look they just invited us to Brunch with them, this may be the only chance we get." She pleaded. “Benji even offered to buy." She added.
Ethan sighed and ran a hand through his sandy blonde hair messing it up a bit. “Alright, I'll come." He said defeated. He didn't like it but he wasn't about to let her go alone.
Blake smiled; he was expecting Ethan to give in. He knew that Ethan had a soft spot for his sister. As for him, well, he kind of had an eye for Corona but he knew that Ethan wouldn't like that so he kept it all to himself.
Melanie smiled and gave Ethan a quick hug before hurrying back to the bank steps where the others were waiting for her answer.
Natasha noted that she was smiling brightly she had obviously won. She smirked she had also won. As soon as they had been out of earshot Aiden had went off on her but he did it calmly. She knew that he was afraid to make her angry and she liked that. Power was just something that she needed to have, it was like oxygen and water, she needed it. The fight had been short and pointless; no one had ever won a fight against her and that wasn't about to change anytime soon.
Melanie walked up to her, a cute smile plastered on her face; a defeated looking Ethan and an eager Blake flanked her.
“Count us in."
