The story of an angel who just didn't belong
The game of war
The door to the church burst open, casuing the priest to turn sharply on his heels, knocking over a candel stand. He was the last person in the church, the head of the priests there. When everyone else had gone, he remained to guide wandering souls in the night. Now his usual silence was shattered by the appearence of a rough looking youth in his late teens. The child wore baggy black pants common to the heathens in that area along with a sleevless black shirt that was torn in several places. "What are you doing in my church?" He exclaimed, his voice shrill with anger and fright. It wasn't too strange to hear of teenagers vandalizing churched.
As the priest spoke, the boy removed a piece of white chalk from his pocket. Pressing it's fresh surface against the hard wood of the door, he began to drag it around, leaving behind it strange shapes written upon the door. Once more the priest spoke up. "Sir, would you mind telling me what you are doing barging into a church at such and hour!?"
The boy turned around, his drawing complete. Upon the door was now a large circle formed from various shapes coming together to form one large picture with writting along the outer edge of the larges circle. "Listen prech, right now there is a swarm of demons born of darkness coming this way that would love to rip apart the soul of a devout man like yourselves and honestly, I doubt the word of your god is going to be enough to stop them."
The priest took several steps back, almost knocking over the alter behind him. "What is this blasphamy that you speak!?" He shrieked, the fear he held now three fold. He opened his mouth to speak again, but a large crash at the door made him fall down. "What was that!?"
The boy put his hand to his head, tilting his head back with a sigh. "Alright prech, what I drew on this door will amplify the natural repelence to demons that this church has, however, it will only be a minor inconvience. The demons will find another way in and when they do, we're going to have to fight them." The sound of metal clattering on stone somewhere in the darkness of the upper balconies echoed in the church. Without thinking, the boy ran at the priest, drawing a large circle around him. When he placed his hands on the image he had drawn, it glowed slightly. "That'll keep any demons from getting you. Just sit tight and whatever you do, do not disturb the circle." With his warning voiced, the boy moved to the center of the church. Claws clacking against stone for a second was the only warning he got of an attack, and it was all he needed. By the time the demon had hurled itself from the balcony and reached the boy, he had drawn a knife from his belt and cut deep into the demons side as it passed. The demon fell limply a few feet away from him.
"Come on then!" He shouted to a chorus of shrill shcreeches and growls as grunts began to fill the church. Their bodies crouched low in a hunting stance gave them the appearence of a cat on the hunt, though their green skin that looked just a bit to slimmy made them look like frogs. A long, slithering tongue made it's way through the gap made by their open maws, dripping with thick saliva. Sptting on the ground at their feet, the boy readied himself, knife in hand.
The first grunt attacked, lunging and biting in unison. Like the first, he stepped out of the way and cut along it's side. Another followed and was stopped with a thick boot into it's face. The sound of crushing bones gaurenteed it's death. Yet another struck out and met it's fate at the boys blade.
Soon, corpses lay all around the church, everything speckled with blood. The boy was breathing heavily now, the constant attacks from the grunts wearing him down. "Finaly. Bastards." He muttered, looking around.
"Not quite." A voice that seemed to carry a familiar tone drifted down from the balconies. It was cold and emotionless, yet oddly soothing. Gradually, a dark figure began to take shape as someone stepped closer to the railling and away from the shadows. He was a tall man with raven hair and red eyes. His clothes were black, from his pants and shirt to the long coat that hung loosely from his body. "This battle's far from over."
The boy looked down at the ground. Around him, the blood from the grunts formed a pattern. A large circle with a triangle in the center. "Like lambs to the slaughter." The man said as he snapped his fingers. The blood glowed at the sound of the snap. A fountain of blood rose from the center, growing in size as it sprayed blood every where. Finaly, when it ceased, a large beast stood in the center. It was hunched, like the grunts when they stood on their hinde legs, but it had large, twisting horns protruding from it's head and leathery black wings on it's back. It snarled at the sight of the boy, stomping one stone shattering foot into the floor.
"********." The boy ran at the beast, thinking desperatly of what he was going to do. A thick arm sweeped the ground in front of him, colliding hard with his gut and sending him into a bench. The bench broke in the middle from the force of his landing. "Damnit, what the hell is this thing?" Clutching a cyrstal tear drop that hung from a silver braclet on his wrist, he muttered a prayer. "Weeping Goddess, lend me your tears of power." At his words, a black tear appeared in the corner of his left eye. Fixing his gaze on the beast, he rose to his feet. In his hands he held a thick piece of splintered wood from the bench. It would do.
At a sprint, he charged the beast a second time, this time focused on the task at hand. Stopping suddenly, he kicking the splinter as hard as he could, sending it straight into the beast eye. The moment he kicked it, he began running again towards his foe. When he was close enough, he leaped up at the half blind creature now writhing in pain. Landing on it's snout, he gripped the piece of wood and twisted it before ripping it out. Blood followed as it poured from the gapping wound in his left eye socket. Without checking the damage he had caused, the boy jumped over it's head onto the back of it's neck, stabbing the piece of wood down hard. It sank in one fourth of the way, making the creature let out another shout of pain, but it still lived. Slamming his boot down hard onto of the wood, he drove it all the way into his enemies neck. There was one more fit of shouts before it fell to the church floor.
The church was broken, bloody, and covered in the bodies of demons. The remaints of the blood summoning circle still stood in the center of the floor. The church was unholy now, unfit to ever be used again. "Sorry about the mess prech. Prech?" He turned around just in time to see the man who had spoken to him earlier standing in front of the circle that surrounded the priest. With the tip of his boot, the man wiped away one spot. With the spot gone, the circle no longer glowed. With a burst of shadows, he vanished as the boys knife flew through where his head would have been and lodged itself in the wall.
"You said that demons couldn't get me!" The priest shouted once he overcame his fear.
"They shouldn't have even been able to see you, which means that that man was no demon. He was human." They both stood in silence that seemed to stretch on forever until finaly he helped up the priest. "Names Luke. It's a pleasure."
The priest stared in disbelief for a moment before responding. "I'm Father McGray." A small smile was shared by both of them as the first signs of dawn came in through the stained glass windows.

((Yeah, seeing as how no one really cared wheather or not I missed an installment of the Sapphire ring, I've stopped bothering. Here's a new one.))

Yeah, you cared, , but who else? The numbers are pretty slim.
