Its not really that great of a game infact if it weren't for the Materia system I wouldn't like it at all. Lets pick apart the game and compare it with others, shall we?

Characters
Cloud Strife: First of all, who the hell names their child Cloud? Secondly, he is the worst main character EVER next to Tidus of course. He's constantly emo about everything that happens. He couldn't save Aeris and thus he deserves to die. He's easily manipulated and can easily be controlled as well. His sword is about the same height as him, it weighs probably about the same as he does, and yet with barely any muscles at all he wields it like it was a feather. Talk about defying the laws of gravity.

Tifa Lockheart: As a character in battle, she just plain sucks. All she can do is punch people and her Limit Break just sucks. Its like a copied version of Cait Siths only its a hell of a lot more retarded. She doesn't do much damage unless you've leveled her all the way up and even then she still sucks. As just a character the only thing she is good for is for masturbating to. I've seen more pictures of her naked than I have seen myself naked. Although thats disturbing, its the truth. In the world of Hentai, she's the biggest slut of them all.

Vincent Valentine: Vincent isn't cool. He uses a tiny little gun, his transformations are uncontrollable, and he's too much of a goth to like. He only has four transformations and each of them are pretty much the same thing each time. You can't attack with him when he transforms, he attacks by himself and his attacks are completely random. That makes his Limit Break pretty damn crappy. So what else does he have going for him? Pretty much nothing. He hardly ever speaks and I guess people think thats cool. But he ain't cool.

Aeris Gainsborough: One of the few characters I actually liked. She was pretty much killed right away and didn't get the chance to gain many fans. Cloud was too much of a p***y to save her and the rest of the team just watched. How stupid are they? She dealt very little physical damage but loading her down with Materia and moving her into the back row, made her a very powerful and much more useful ally than most. Thanks to Cloud, Tifa, and Vincent here and the rest of the "side characters" were overshadowed.

Red XIII: His real name is Nanaki (I think) and yet they don't tell much about him. Just that he was captured and was supposed to mate with Aeris. His dead was apparently killed defending Cosmo Canyon and thats pretty much him and his story. He really isn't all that useful and his Limit Breaks... eh. He's pretty much just an extra character who really shouldn't have been part of the group.

Cait Sith: Some people if not all dislike Cait Sith although I can not imagine why. He may look weird and definitely out of place but he's by far one of the greatest characters. He's very similar to Aeris and by that I mean he deal very little physical damage but when equipped with the right Materia and moved to the back row, he can be very devastating and extremely helpful during boss fights. His Limit Break is basically a slots game. Using Cait Siths Limit Break move is pretty risky considering the fact that he can either can your enemy instantly or kill your entire party instantly. But thats far more unique than Clouds hack-and-slash everything to pieces.

Cid Highwind: He's not too overlooked but he doesn't get the respect or details that he deserves. He does have a bigger part of the story than most of the "side characters" but still not that much. Hell in the movie he says only a few words and thats it. He doesn't even get to kill Bahamut or do much other than kill some shadow things. But at least he got to be in the movie, game, Kingdom Hearts (I & II), and FFVII biggrin oC. His Limit Break is pretty fun but pretty much the same thing as everyone elses.

Yuffie Kisaragi: Okay... what the hell is she wearing? Seriously. She looks like a retard in what she's wearing. At least they did her some justice in the other games but in Final Fantasy VII she looks ridiculous. It almost made me not want to use her... oh wait... I didn't use her. I just needed her to beat some lame bosses. Her Limit Breaks are pretty boring and I still can't figure out how she doesn't kill herself wielding an inane weapon like that. They don't really say jack squat about her except that she likes to steal Materia.

Barret Wallace: I don't know... maybe its just me... but doesn't he seem a bit stereotypical? I mean him and his weapon. A big black guy with a gun... hm... well whatever. His Limit Breaks are pretty much the same every time and he's pretty much only good for fighting. They don't do him much justice in the game but at least he gets more than most of the other characters. At least you find about his past and what not. In Advent Children... he's just ridiculous. Dread locks? Wow. The tiny part that he's seen fighting Bahamut SIN he's pretty much rescued every time. Making him both useless in the Movie and in the game.

Main Villian
Sephiroth: Honestly I don't know why anyone likes this guy. He got his a** kicked by Cloud twice (although its more than that depending on how many times you beat the game) and he didn't even put up much of a fight. Hell in the movie he cut a few things and that was it. Then Cloud used Omnislash v5 on him and blam! He was dead. In the game you could easily waste all his forms using just one Knights of the Round summon. Then at the end it only takes one Omnislash to finish him off. If that ain't the weakest boss ever then I just don't know who is. The only thing he did that was really evil was kill Aeris but he did it while she was praying. What a cheap b*****d. Its typical that he can't just fight people head on.

Plot/Storyline
Here's the whole thing in a nutshell. Cloud is in Avalanche, blows up a Reactor. Second time around Tifa joins him and Barret but of course the President of Shin-ra ******** their plan up. Cloud falls from a height that should've killed him but didn't even though he went through the roof of a Church and landed only on some flowers. He meets up with Aeris who asks him to be her bodyguard. Blah blah blah... man its too boring to even describe. Its basically just Cloud trying to save the world while being a dumbass who can't see that Tifa really loves him. He's easily manipulated by Sephiroth several times and eventually ends up kicking his a**. Thats about it.

The only good thing about the game was the Materia system. Other than that the game pretty much sucked. Now its got a sequel(s), a prequel, a movie, several DVDs, etc. I mean Final Fantasy VII was a mediocre Final Fantasy so milking this thing even more is just pissing me off even further. Every other Final Fantasy except for Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X-2 are better than Final Fantasy VII. Hell if they made a movie off of Final Fantasy Tactics I would watch that movie a millions times. But no... they had to make a stupid movie about that emo b***h Cloud and the big breasted whore, Tifa.

I'm done ranting because just thinking of the game is pissing me off.
