This was supposed to be on freewebs but it's being so frigging stupid right now. I decided to put it up on here until I can figure out how to fix my website. This is part of a series where I look at the friendships in the tower from Wally's point of view and the first one up is Robin. This was written really easily but it came out a bit angsty because well it's Robin, I love the guy but he has lots of issues. The title is referring to Robin's hero complex, basically his need to save everyone. Big thanks to Kogy who beta'd this for me in the early hours of the morning after listen to me ramble on like an idiot. xD Anyway here it is and I hope you enjoy it.

Robin is exactly where Wally knew he would be. Slumped at his desk, with the kind of posture that just /has/ to hurt and typing like he'll never see tomorrow. Like he has to get his life story down right now.

"Robin." Wally's voice is cool and collected but underneath that there is the barest hint of pleading that he just knows Robin can hear. He can hear a soft exhale of breath and see the gloved hands on the keyboard freeze,

"Wally I'm working." Wally can't see his face but he can tell that Robin is frowning from the tone of his voice.

"No you're not." His voice is firm and unyielding. The silence between them stretches, awkward and tense. It's a good thing that Wally never knows when to shut up and go away because he continues. "You're brooding.../again/. Talk to me."

"I'm fine. Go and bother TJ or something." This time it's Robin's voice that holds the tone that is bordering on pleading. It only makes Wally want to try harder.

"You can't save everyone Rob. You're only human." Wally has a pretty good idea exactly what is going on in his best friend's head. He just wishes that for once he would confide in him instead of bottling it up like it's something to be ashamed of.

"I'm fine. I'm just frustrated that's all. We lost a civilian today and that hasn't happened since March last year. We should have been more careful.We should have tried harder." He /is/ used to these outbursts from Robin, almost /expects/ them from him. Yet the clarity when he realises, that when Robin says 'we' he really means 'me', tugs at his heart strings. Nobody could be harder on Robin then he is on himself.

"You tried so hard to save her." Wally understands why Robin does this to himself, after all Wally is a Hero too. But Robin is the best of them all. He's always looked up to him and maybe on some level there is tiny amount of Hero worship going on. It's not just him, other Titans do it to. Wally knows that Robin doesn't see it, he's too busy trying to save the whole damn world.

"It wasn't good enough though." Robin's voice is quiet, tinged with regret and sadness. It makes Wally feel a raw surge of anger that goes right through him.

"No, Robin. It was." Wally's voice is quiet, but suddenly it seems almost fierce, intense. Like it was some emotion he had never let out before, had built it up and was now leaking it out into his words.

Robin's chair moves around slowly until he is facing Wally, staring at him as if he has never seen him before. "Wally.." Wally doesn't give him a chance to finish and cuts him off.

"No d**k it's time you listened." Robin's mouth opens and closes which makes him look remarkably like a goldfish. If this was any other occasion, Wally would laugh but what he has to say is so important that he can't let this chance slip away.

"You're only human. God you don't even have any superpowers. You weren't born with incredible gifts or zapped by lightening or hit with chemicals. Yet somehow you manage to be the best of us all. Tomorrow in the papers they will berate you...us. Saying we have responsibility and all that crap. I wonder if they realise that you actually are human. If they could spend three nights in a row without sleep, going through files or training themselves into the ground."

Wally pauses for breath and he wonders at what point his hands started to grip Robin's shoulders, vibrating slightly as he tries so hard to say what needs to be said.

"They don't seem to get how God damn awesome you are. And most importantly they never remember that you are human. Just a kid. Like all of us."

He lets Robin go and takes a step back. The shock on his friends face is an emotion that he doesn't get to see from Robin very often. It's with a tinge of regret that Wally realises he should have said these words long ago. Told Robin how much he means to them all.

He shakes his head slightly and backs away. He's heading for the door, face awash with emotion and pauses one last time. Standing in the middle of the room with his back to his friend as he utters,

"But they should."
