Rage Against the...read it to find out
Once again, don't be offended. The following is most everything I hold against conservatism. This will be scathing, but how I honestly feel.
In a time of political uncertainty, even those unable to vote are staunch defenders of their political outlook. As I see people falling sway to the Bush campaign, then inquiering why I hold a "left-wing nutjob" outlook, I have no choice but to explain myself.
First, why I would never vote for Bush...

1. "Rally 'round the family, pockets full of shells"
"Bulls on Parade" by RATM sums it up. The whole "War on Terror" promotes an attack on Iraq masked behind a need to protect precious American lives. The president tells the citizens that they are in danger, and in return for near limitless authority as commander in chief, he will protect them. This leads to military force mobilizing uncontrollably while the wool is pulled over the eyes of the fearful.

2. "The vultures who thirst for blood and oil"
From "Guerrilla Radio". Think about it. Is there any possibility that the SON OF AN OIL BARRON could be after SEIZABLE IRAQI OIL? When the United States is having a SHORTAGE OF OIL?

3. "We gotta take the power back"
From "Take the Power Back". As Mr. Chiavetta pointed out, in times of crisis, the presidential balloon of power expands, and in times of peace it deflates, and it is stretched to accomodate more power afterwards. If president Bush has the authority to do whatever he sees fit to "protect America", soon it will be a norm for the executive branch. Bye-bye, rights of Congress.

4. "Know your enemy!!"
From "Know Your Enemy". Bush does not know his enemy. He spreads empty catch phrases of "spreading freedom", which Nick regretfully embarrassed himself by repeating. The shame. If your country is attacked by terrorists, an independently acting cell of angry individuals, you go after the terrorists. duh. Not the government that they supposedly live under. Did anyone not catch Kerry's point that when Osama was cornered, the decision to let his former followers handle the situation was less that the best option? Boy, that must be embarrasing. Best troops in the world, right there, but they need to be going after some secondary threat? If you believe that, I'd like to sell you a pink dancing elephant that cooks waffles.

5. I don't have a clever lyric for this one, but when Bush talks, its just bad. I did notice that unscripted he sounds smarter because he doesn't mess up the language so horribly, but the conclusion that I came to is that he is not a proficient reader. So, is No Child Left Behind a considerate move to better the youth of the nation, or a self help plan? Hooked on Phonics worked for me, George.
If I come up with anything else I oppose about this man, I'll add it later.

Suprisingly enough, I oppose the conservative view even beyond the Bush aspect.
Example One- I viewed the Republican National Convention. One republican politician, his name escapes me, and his family were interviewed. This man is supposedly a good candidate for the republican party in the next election. When asked how she felt about her husband being president, his wife answered that she was not sure if she wanted her husband to be the president, that the next president "will be a republican, whoever he is". How closed minded. This woman stated, in effect, that if the republican party chose to run Freddy Krueger as its candidate, he would have her vote. That is a shallow, yet widely accepted mindset.
Another is the overall conservative vibe. It seems to me, and this is just from my experience, that conservative families tend to be so absorbed in religion that it clouds reason. While I was in the car with a family that is close to my own, no matter the sharp political difference, I heard the family actually cut down Martin Luther King Jr. for not being a "good Christian." It seems deeply unfair to me to teach children that one such alignment is critical to being "good." Another aspect is descrimination against gays. The same family believes that homosexuality is an unforgivable sin, and even less logical, a choice. I quote my friend in saying "I used to think Ian McKellan (Gandalf in Peter Jackson's LotR films) was cool until I found out he was gay." Unfair, I think.

People have a right to believe as they will. They have a right to believe that what they do not believe is not right. I have a right to believe that they are wrong.

Even if I hate conservatism, I still reserve the right to love conservatives, even if we disagree. Just stay out of office! wink

I'm not even going to argue with this...I don't have the energy. All your little numbered points are good arguments...even if I don't always agree. Bush does sound funny when he talks, but give the dude a break, he's from Texas, they all sound like that. The "overall conservative vibe" thing doesn't work for me. I don't like it. I'm not just going to vote for a Republican since they're a Republican either...that's just pointless. Religion does often influence political decision because of the religious values beliefs...((ex: Catholics on abortion, homosexuality...just about anything like that)). I don't tie religion and politics though-fine Catholic church, you care if homosexuals get married, but I don't mind. So you'll hate me if I run for office, huh? How does the headline "first female president-a Republican!" sound to you? blaugh Haha. Now I have goals. whoo-hoo!
