Chapter 5
It's to the south west of here beyond the great expanses of the desert and crystalline waters of the Great sea of Azalin.”he finally said looking at her in triumph.
“Across the desert and sea....” she trailed off looking at him in bewilderment. He nodded, then took her hand gently within his own. “Yes, and we must leave now before it is too late,” he said as he pulled her along after him through the winding corridors of the castle to the main gates.
At the main gates there stood two large panthers as black as the early morning sky, they were as big as a horse, with powerful muscular bodies, and intense eyes that gazed wearily. The one to the left looked as if it were going to stretch but instead made a gesture much like a bow, and the other followed in suite not long after. Serverus walked to them and looked deeply into their eyes and then petted them briskly on the head before he turned to Mishka. “Gengi has agreered to bear you across the mountains, desert , and to the port city of Qactaria,” he said as he lifted her off the ground and onto the beast's powerful back. Mishka shifted, feeling a bit uncomfortable for a few minutes. She noticed that it felt somewhat soft and hard at the same time against her backside.
Before she new what was happening, Gengi spirited Mishka out of the castle grounds with Serverus not far behind astride the other beast. This one, she noticed, seemed to be taller and more powerful. With every stride, the creatures muscles would tighten and loosen making Mishka gasp in awe. They were so gorgeous in their own way, a lot lie Luca she noted as she continued to watch Serverus and his mount, who rode beside her and Gengi. She saw him look at her and she hurriedly looked away, her cheeks growing hot from embarrassment. She wondered why it was she had been so afraid of him in the first place, and why he kidnapped her? For most of their journey that day she turned these thoughts over within her mind until Serverus called back to her.
“Mishka! We are going to stop by the Ebory river to camp for the night.” She nodded in answer.
They stopped near a bend in the river that was Sheltered by tall willow trees that seemed to weep for some long forgotten secrets. Their movingly beautiful boughs hung down far past their trunks providing shelter for the forest inhabitants. It was funny to Mishka that she could find such beauty within such things as plants and animal, and she laughed aloud to herself. She had always found such things interesting, and as a child, she used to play in the calm, peaceful, luscious forest with Luca's pack. She also remembered how the other children had treated her, and her crystalline laughter ceased as silent tears rolled down her cheeks like tiny silver rivers. They'd been so cruel to her for as long as she could remember, and Mishka could never understand why. “Am I truly that different?” she asked aloud to herself. Serverus looked over to her in surprise and shook his head ruefully.
“I do not know what hardships you have endured but your differences make you who you are; they make us all who we are. If everyone were the same, Mishka, then the world would suffer greatly,” he said recalling the words that Kairi had once told him. When the Goddess had first spoken these words to him, he laughed in her face, but now, speaking then to Mishka, he finally understood what she had meant. He made a mental note to thank the Goddess once they had defeated Dagon and then jumped from the panther's, Kazuma's, back. He moved toward Mishka to help her down, but before he was able to reach her, she hand slid from Gengi's back.
“I suppose your right.” she answered looking to the silver moon, Mai, within the sky. He noticed that as the light of Mai fell upon her, her skin show with a pale brillant radiance that seemed glisten, and her hair fell in a black wave defying the light. She was so beautiful that he had almost taken her back to her home where he knew that no harm would come to her, but he knew he could not indulge in his fanciful whims. He sighed heavily and he touched her on her arm. Her sin was warm to his touch, and he could feel her blood corse through her veins. She turned around to look at him in the eyes. He drew back in surprise shaking his head, opening and closing his eyes, and then he looked back at her.
