The GCD is getting way too....crappy lately.
All threads are either:
- Spam
- Repeat threads
- Off-topic fanthreads
- Interesting and decent (VERY rare)
- Trying too hard to hit some controversial subject
- Annoying (Will discuss in a moment)
I'm finding more and more threads in the GCD that are just trying me to the GD. They have this "Holier than Thou" attitude to them. One example would be like "Some people donate just for the items, and then complain about the items. I donate solely to help Gaia without any interest in the items. I'm above that." Yeah right.
Even the Gaia staff knows very well what keeps people donating..items. This applies to most sites on the internet regardless. I donate mostly for the items myself. I love knowing that it helps support Gaia, but primarily I like to think about the items. Is that wrong? No. That's the gimmick Gaia uses to keep people donating.
Another would be the whole "I am not biased at all." thing....meaning you don't care at all about their avatar, join date, literacy, forum tendencies, etc. Realistically...no one is free from having some kind of biased...unless maybe I'm just the only human being on Gaia.
I don't care what you say...avatars and join date are frequently a good indicator of how easy it is to get along with someone. Join date usually shows how dedicated one is to Gaia. In comparison...between a user of '03 and a brand new user...which have you seen provide a better explanation into changes needed to Gaia? Usually an '03er understands the site, the forum they belong to, and the trends to the site far better than a newbie would.
Forum tendencies was the first thing to come up in this change. It was always asked why the Chatterbox is bashed. sweatdrop The Chatterbox was a place specifically made by Lanzer to handle unwanted spam. He said it himself. If the place has literally no standards, how can one expect it to be taken seriously?
Members with better avatars tend to hold better conversations because they're usually a sign of join date. That's because newbies on Gaia are usually n00bs. Almost everyone goes through a n00b stage in their forum life (including myself)...and many members go through it on Gaia. There's two different types of n00bs, however. There's the kind that are just going through a temporary stage as a new person to forums at all...and there's the kind that are stubborn and refuse to really change. Neither are that fun to talk to and most of the time I just get asked for stuff. Older members are usually or have learned to be more literate and all that other stuff you learn with experience.
Not only that, but avatars depict not only your interests, but your hard work involved in the site. Through an actual donation...or just tons of saving up and constructive questing. I do respect people with nice avatars for this reason. "They were just lucky enough to join early" is a lame excuse. That would mean that they stuck to Gaia even when it was a much less fun, smaller community. To disregard avatars altogether (as some have suggested) is just an insult to the hard work put in by members and the Admins alike.
Literacy...it should be obvious. sweatdrop It's a pain to talk to someone who uses chatspeak on forums.
Overall..the forum is getting too...elitist...in a different way. It's making me tempted to make a thread saying stuff like "You are no better than a troll. The fact that they post tubgirl and you contribute to the forums means nothing!"
'Tis a shame.
