~Fear~

Alone in a dark alley, the chilled air chaps your face as the lights slowly go out. Take a deep breath, listen, smell the air around you. The tiny constant drops of a nearby storm drain drive you to paranoia as you start to hear footsteps behind you. Drip…drop…drip…drop, the footsteps follow the beat. A cool breath whispers in your ear “you’re not alone” and with a slight gust of wind you turn around to see a dark empty alley. Wait. Can you feel it? The cold hands that just touched your shoulder? “Always here” the soft voice sings to you. Don’t be fooled. The warning in your heart is right. Run…as fast as you can. Run as far as you can. Run to a place with no mirrors, windows, and one door. Whatever you do, do not take your eyes off the door. Try not to blink, for if you let this in, it will consume you. It will drive you away from yourself, from others you hold dear, from your hobbies, and ambitions, it will make you believe that you are someone you’re not. Never let it in. If you do, it will never leave, be fearless, for it is fear you hide from.
