The San Diego Zoo

The world famous San Diego Zoo is really close to my home and I love to go walking there. Our zoo is also an amazing botanical garden and the zoo's residents have beautiful natural environments with lots of enrichment and freedom. There are often new babies to see because the zoo specializes in breeding rare and endangered species. Here is the 2007 Panda cub Zhen Zhen (which means "precious" wink , a few hours after her birth with her mama Bai Yun (her name means "White Cloud".

Bai Yun just birthed her 5th cub August 3, a roly poly sweet boy. It is always a joy to see Bai Yun, who is a GREAT mother, cuddling and playing!

Our New Girl

I thought I'd share pictures of the newest member of the LHH household - meet SHIMMER, a 10 week old lilac tabby! We found each other at Twilight and I thought she was a blue tabby. When I saw her in daylight, I was floored to see the rose colored pads which are signature of the lilac. (Blues have slate blue pads). Anyway, I tried to name her Twilight, then Esme (though very loving, she's far to hyperactive to be calm Esme. I tried Hermione Grace, since she is very smart, but Shimmer is what she responds to, and she has a lot of light shimmering in her coat. No rainbow effect though

She resembles a purebred Bengal, but is a hand-raised rescue kitten. Shim has a silver face, silver paws and silver and dark lilac stripes and rosettes on her sides and a silver belly with lilac spots. She also has a dark lilac owl on one cheek (you can see it in the profile picture), and a dark lilac wolf on the other cheek!

My beloved Topaz passed peacefully on to the great catnip Elysian fields at the ripe age of 19 years, 7 months and Bodhi and I missed her terribly. We visited several cat rescues til little Shimmer claimed us.

My home is in San Diego, California near Sea World and the Zoo. I live with a lot of books, Bodhi, a male shaded silver exotic shorthair Persian and Shimmer, my spotted lavender tabby girl kitten. I have traveled to China. I like to meditate and practice Nui Gung (an older and more descriptive name for Chi / Qi Kung).
