Nyu's Past Life: When a .50 BMG bullet hit Lucy's metallic helmet, Lucy had completely lost her memory. Lucy lacked language skills, didn't know that she was a diclonius, and she didn't know how to manifest her vectors. When Kouta and Yuka saw Lucy, they helped her and brought her to the abandoned inn. Kouta and Yuka had couldn't communicate with Lucy because all she could say was "Nyu". Therefore, Kouta and Lucy nicknamed her Nyu. However, when Nyu gets hit on the head, or sees violence, she reverts to her other side, Lucy.
Lucy's Past Life: Lucy developed strong emotions of hatred and vengeance to regular humans mainly because of how she was treated as a child. Other kids treated her meanly by making fun of her horns and giving her nicknames like "freak". Lucy lacks empathy and kills without any concern.
