About
It's not often a small island apart of a string of Micronesia islands, has its name be the derivative for a type of infamous swim wear. It is also not often that an island is currently in dispute for habitability due to concerns of radioactive contamination poisoning the food, after twenty three nuclear bombs were set off in the island for testing, courtesy of the paranoia instilled upon nineteen fifties United States of America due to the cold war.Between the years 1946 and 1958 twenty three nuclear devices were tested by the United States. On March 1st, 1954, the world's first hydrogen bomb was tested, and with far more devastating effects than were predicted. That gave the island radiation residual, radioactivity that made the island largely inhospitable. It also left a large crater on the "lagoon".
The Micronesian inhabitants, a population of about two hundred on the island had to be evacuated from the island. The population received billions in compensation from the United States government, and continue to do so today. In 1968, when trying to get the citizens back to their island, it was realized that their strontium-90 levels were to high, due to radiation.
Today, the civilization is declared habitable. Although, radiation is known to make the food deadly.
