Oh man Last.FM. Don't bother with mine, seriously, it's sorely lacking because I'm a lazy a** who hasn't set up scrobbling for a lot of things/doesn't feel like it. It's sure lost its luster, and it hardly helps that many of the groups I like share their name with a few others making sorting things a nightmare. Always happy to talk music, though.

I know. The Carpenters make me feel things few if any other artist has made me feel. ;w;
The first song of Death Angel's I really paid attention to was "Dethroned." Then I went back a bit in time, fell in love with Act III (because of "Discontinued"--that bassline) and then The Ultra-Violence (apparently the title track got used in a Carl's Jr. commercial? xD)
I love Death Angel's vocals too. Mark Osegueda is probably my favorite thrash vocalist right now. Hetfield probably used to be it but he developed some annoying yodel during the 90s and his voice now just has no energy...

I actually hadn't heard of Holy Moses, thanks for bringing them to my attention. German thrash mostly I've listened to Kreator and Sodom, some Destruction and Tankard and a few other assorted bands I don't remember at the moment. Right now I am listening to Finished with the Dogs--super impressed by their vocalist! Also, Uli Kusch is drumming on this one? Aww yiss. Will check out the recent stuff too soon enough, so thanks again for the rec! User Image

Ahaha I see you posted a Death Angel song. I have a soft spot for the band and just happen to have this record too, aha.
"Truce" is by far my favorite song on it, then "River of Rapture" in second, then "I Chose The Sky" and "This Hate" in some order.
Sorry to spam your comments, couldn't resist because they're one of my favorites and one of the first thrash metal bands I got attached to User Image

Welp, sorry for late response, I've been jerked around a bit for the past few days and was gonna reply but forgot about it. emotion_facepalm

I don't blame you for thinking "Goodbye to Love" takes a bit to get into--it's definitely a bit of an oddball in their discography. People hated it at the time, too, from what I've read.
"Superstar," though... I actually heard Usher's version first for whatever reason despite me growing up in a household that played a lot of Carpenters at my mother's behest (maybe it wasn't the most popular of their songs, and it is a cover) but I later discovered their version and I fell in love. But I'm partial to the Carpenters. Oh man, the arrangements on "Crystal Lullaby" are fantastic, some of Richard's best, and the harmonies on "Road Ode" are great too. I don't listen to those two as much as their other material admittedly but I love them too. A Song For You is just loaded with great songs. For all the talk about Karen's voice, Richard's arrangements need to be acknowledged too. He is a genius.

So I'm sure "Rainy Days and Mondays" came up at some point. User Image

Glad you're enjoying them! I love them so much. If I'm in one of my awful moods I just play "Top of the World" and it's gone in a few minutes.
I gotta agree. It's so sad that these great musicians were taken away so soon. :c

That is true, I mean if every singer only had my limited vocal range it'd be a bit boring. lol
Did enjoy the other tracks you recommended, by the way.

If I remember right that song isn't even a Carpenters original either; their version is a cover too. So yeah it's really not what you'd expect from them.

Anyway I'll tell you that most of the songs by the Carpenters that I like are extremely sappy as music from their time period is prone to be. Kind of another reason I love them, heh, though it's not everyone's thing. Lemme think of my favorites: "I Won't Last A Day Without You" is probably the song that I heard as a young one that really tuned me into them, it tops my list. Paul Williams does a great version of this one too. "Goodbye To Love" has some fantastic fuzz guitar playing from the late, great Tony Peluso. Their cover of Delaney and Bonnie's "Superstar" is great too, so is "A Song For You." "Close To You" is one of their most popular numbers and it was Homer Simpson's wedding song but I like it too anyway. I'll have to stop because honestly I'll be hard-pressed to find a song of theirs I don't love. Karen Carpenter wasn't a belter but her voice is just so beautiful ugh she was taken away too soon :C

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to dive in then. It's not that her higher-pitched stuff isn't my cup of tea, but it sure is harder to sing along to. lol
But I sure will give those a listen. User Image

Also, Carpenters! <33333
I love them so much, I love Karen's voice especially. Have I ever told you that yet? User Image

I know. D: I'm glad you enjoyed them. I have my dad to thank for that, he pretty much has the guy's discog and I borrowed it and fell in love with a lot of it. Maury played on most of Jim Croce's songs, including his biggest hits. smile I think relatively recently his family did release some of his solo stuff, though. I read something like that. Haha, yeah, it gets like that. A lot of the stuff I listen to now was recommended to me by someone here, or something I saw in the thread, or related to either. The thread moves much more slowly and has less people posting in it than it used to during its glory days (everything here has slowed) but I still find a gem or two every so often, even just by lurking. 3nodding

I know, right? D: I guess it was aviation not being quite as safe back in the day as it is now. I don't know. Oh man, I'd love to have Jim Croce and Maury Muehleisen, Patsy Cline, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Randy Rhoads, members of Lynyrd Skynyrd back, among others. Really way too sad. Throw in Stevie Ray Vaughan and Duane Allman, too. Talk about the day the music died. Though cheesy as it is, at least they're immortalized by their music.

Glad you enjoyed the Jim Croce song. He's one of my favorites, both as a musician and lyricist. Maury Muehleisen was one of my guitar heroes growing up. 3nodding
