I'm sure you've heard of angels.
The creatures of heaven.
The ones that you read about in stories,
and see in drawings and paintings.

They beautifully depicted,
with flawless faces,
gorgeous hair,
and brilliant white wings.

They are portrayed as perfect,
and are always right.
They are said to guide those that are lost,
and protect them from harm.

They are creatures that are so perfect,
no human could hope to be like them,
so aspiring to be an angel,
will only bring failure.

I want to be an angel though.
I'm not beautiful,
I am far from flawless,
I have no wings to fly.

I make mistakes regularly,
and I have been know to be wrong,
Sometimes I to am lost,
I can't always protect.

I'm no angel,
but can't we pretend?
I'll be with you for ever,
and never hurt you.

We could pretend
that I know what's right.
That I can actually protect you from the world,
guide you through its confusion.
