Be that as it may with the lack of information before now and the random asking for a "donation" it does seem suspicious....at any rate asking random people is not generally how people do get their things back after being hacked. The person who was hacked files a report, then they wait, eventually Gaia staff does get to it. (I've had friends hacked before and they have always gotten everything back within 30 days to one year.) In the mean time the victim usually makes threads in forums dedicated to helping people, there are even guilds made specifically to help hacking victims.

Well, you haven't mentioned a name or an organization your with...which does lead me to believe this may well be a scam, if it's not though get your friend to make a forum about it, a lot of charity threads are out there, I'm sure he can get some help that way.
