Ouch, I think I got the picture. Sounds really unpleasent situation. D; I don't get why your best friend gets mad at you because you just want the best for him. He probably thinks you're jealous, maybe, but that's still so unfair. You have no reason to tell lies about that girl, it's rather offensive of him to think like that.
