My Story
I was born a noble on a ship in the year 1653. My life as a nobleman soon came to an end at age 20, when my father became deathly ill and I, along with my two younger sisters, set out upon the seas searching for Scalawag's Delight, a legendary island that is rumored to possess the secret of eternal life and untold earthly pleasures.In the search for a cure to my father's illness, I met a mysterious man named Galateo who claimed to be an immortal, and to prove this to me he used my firearm to shoot himself in the stomach. To my astonishment, the wound healed instantly, and he seemed unscathed by the point blank injury. I told him that I, too, would like to be an immortal and asked him if he knew of any cure that could heal my ailing father. He told me that he could help my father but to do so would require him and my father to meet in person. However, he did present me with two potions and he claimed with utter confidence that one of them could restore my father's life and vigor. He also mentioned that one should imbibe both potions to be certain that the remedy would work. These concoctions, he claimed, had the power to grant eternal life but that such treasures had a high price. I agreed to give him all the gold we had on board and in exchange he gave me the two potions.
After our transaction, Galateo turned to me and said, "Now, it is time for me to fulfill your wish to be an immortal." I agreed and braced myself for what was to come. He then seized me and held me with such a great strength that I found myself struggling to breathe. I then if felt a sharp pain in my neck and awoke moments later to a greater pain as my body began to die. Galateo cut his wrist open with a jagged fingernail and told me to drink his blood if i wanted to live. I did as instructed and soon the pain subsided and my wound healed. I felt my body die, yet i was still alive. My senses began to experience the world like never before. I was intoxicated by the taste of the blood fresh on my lips.
Galateo then flew off the ship into the night. It would be the last time I would ever see him. I instructed the crew to set sail for home immediately, for it was many months away. The journey home was a hell to endure, because in my now immortal state I could easily hear the heartbeats of the crew and my siblings. Every day I was tempted by a growing darkness within me and soon my hunger drove me to kill and consume all of my crew, leaving only my sisters and I aboard my cursed ship. I disposed of the crew's bodies by throwing them off the side of the ship at night. I, their trusted captain, had taken their lives and betrayed them.
The weight of grief and guilt was too much to bear and I also feared for the lives of my sisters, for home was still weeks away and I knew in time they would become the next victims of my ungodly hunger. The thought of their deaths at my hands was unacceptable, so I decided to gave them the potions we had purchased to ensure their lives. They each received a potion, drank, and fell unconscious.
My older sister, Scarlet, came to quickly and transformed before my eyes. She grew wings like a bat and her eyes turned as red as mine. My little sister, Pyra, regained conscioussness two days later. Moments before waking, we watched in horror as her hair lit aflame but then were relieved as it quickly extinguished itself and she opened her eyes, which, like her hair, had become as bright as fire. Her features had also changed to those of the elven race.
We had begun the journey together as mere mortals and arrived at home as immortal beings. I had found the opportunity to experience eternal life, but it is a decision I regret, for I've learned that my vampiric powers do not grant me TRUE immortality, but rather an extended life full of regret, death, and an insatiable thirst for the blood of my fellow man.
