Well contrary to popular belief "separation of church and state" is a myth, it isn't actually stated in the constitution at all. Only freedom of religion and so on. However most of the founding fathers were very religious fundamentalist Christians and most of their ideas as well as ideas that made this country the envy of the world it once was(before liberals started corrupting our youth, causing test scores to drop, causing astronomically high crime, welfare, and dropout rates) were based on Christian principles. Not really a theocracy or anything, they believed that religion shouldn't dictate but they also didn't believe in total abolishment of religion in our schools and policies either so it's a bit more complex than a yes/no answer to religion having a place in politics.
The fundamental differences between the two seems to be:
Republicans/Conservatives believe strongly in law and order and the government having a firm place in that aspect of our lives(without the fundamentals of law and order society would cease to exist)but that the government should take a small place in taking responsibility for our well being/they believe strongly in being self sufficient and working hard to achieve goals.
Democrats/liberals want absolutely no government interference in their personal lives and seem to oppose law and order to begin with(whether they admit it or not, but the violence toward the police and historical opposition to any form of order in general speaks for itself)... yet they want big government to control business, commerce, and to give handouts to everyone. I see it the same as a spoiled brat that screams "YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME" while his/her parents pay for their housing, food, cell phone, and everything.
I believe in personal freedom so long as it doesn't harm others. Most conservatives do, you'd be surprised. I don't however believe in pseudo-freedom and the embracing of faddish ideas and trends so common with most liberals, who ironically aren't really so liberal when it comes to ideas and lifestyles that they disagree with.
Hey man, just like there are black republicans there are also "wildly dressed" republicans out there too. Gene Simmons for example. Either way the vast majority of liberals that dress in wild fashions are young, simply following trends and/or confused, not true individuals.
