Johannes Cabal

Cabal nods. "One size fits all."
He unknots the end, laying the ribbon on his knee, his wrist on top. He quickly ties the ends together one handedly.
"Bind!" he orders, and the knot flashes before turning into a lock, black iron inlaid with silver runes and water-colored stones, the braid length a fine chain.
"Takes a bit of belief, but that's what it's all about. Release," he commands, and it changes back to the less fantastic version.
"Only the one who ties it can give the order to bind or free the occupant."

Cabal carefully loops the threads over one another, silver over black opal over turquoise, murmuring a chant that although unused for almost ten years, still seemed fresh in his mind.
Coming to the end, he makes a looping knot, to tie the other end into. He fixes the ends together temporarily and lays the entire length of the coiled ribbon in the palm of his hand.
"It doesn't look like much, but a bit of belief is all it takes."

Cabal shakes his head. "Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass," he says with a chuckle. "Besides, I think there's something else that has more to do with it."
Taking the remainder of the chalk, he finishes the glyph with a set of runes around the border, muttering the words carefully.
The marks glow steadily as they leave the chalk, and as he finishes the border, the circles glow with a blinding light before fading down.
Cabal reaches inside each of the jars, the once leathery strips now colored threads. He knots one end and hands it to Karu.
"Hold tight. This'll take a few minutes and the braid needs to be even."

"Karu, a birthday is a birthday, even if you are turning 20 for the 900th time." h

The Hunter blinked and looked down at his kneeling accomplice "Actually; knowing you, I believed it. It just didn't make me the happiest person when you decided to disappear on me after I proposed I get you or do something with you for your birthday." The hunter said. It was clear he wasn't really angry at this point; just mythed about it.

The necromancer nods. "I did my own improvisation of this on the gate around my house. It keeps the things inside inside," he emphasizes.
Satisfied with the consistency of the mixture, he sets it down in the remaining circle.
"Although," he says as he takes the bear sinews out of the water glass, "Mine was a little bit more on the scientific reasoning side."
Carefully, Cabal divides the strip into thirds, twisting and stretching the lengths to a bit under a foot. He then drops each piece into one of the jars, letting them soak.
"Dirt from a cat's paw, fish gills... not very imaginative."

"Anywho, what are you up to?" The hunter said as he took off his hood revealing his face.

Cabal nods, uncorking the breath of a fish and quickly replacing the stopper with his thumb. He takes the smoldering beard hair, and carefully, he pours the bottle inside.
A teal foam forms, threatening to bubble over, but barely keeps in the jar. He moves it to a circle inscribed in the glyph, across from the prepared footsteps.
Satisfied, he turns his attention to the last jar, the silvery ore of a mountain root.
"You didn't have to kill any dwarves for this, did you?" he asks as he takes the cotton swab with the crow's spit on it, mixing the dry rock into a thick paste.

"That type of hunting always kinda hurts you mentally; though at this point I'm used to it." He smirked. "These demons really ******** with your mind, you see."

He tossed his rifle into the air spinning it (Like in the 21 guns salute), and caught it and put it on his back. "Not really; just finished a demon hunt."

"Afternoon, Karu." The Hunter said in a low tone.

"Quite right." Cabal picks up the bear sinews, pulling on the tough shreds.
He frowns, setting them aside briefly to grab the glass of water and the jar containing the footsteps of a cat.
Carefully, he pours half of the water into the jar, then screws the lid back on. Mixing the two together makes an ink-black slurry with an opalescent sheen.
"That's the dilution of a cat's footstep if I ever saw one," he mutters as he puts the bear sinews in the remaining half of water.

Cabal takes the jar filled with hair, opening it up and glancing at the contents.
"I imagine she was rather indignant when you asked for this?" he asks as he strikes one of the matches on the sole of his shoe, dropping it into the jar.
The hair smolders before catching fire, an unpleasant stench emanating from it, reminding him of one of his more lackluster days in the lab that resulted in a set of broken beakers and singed eyebrows.
He sits it down, waiting for it to reduce to ash.

Cabal grabs a piece of chalk out of a bowl from the door stand. "This should be easy enough we can manage in the kitchen. Come."
As he leads her into a sparse but cleanly kept kitchenette, he unlocks the door to the pantry, pulling out a piece of slateboard almost a meter long on each side.
He places it on the floor, drawing a glyph on it with a keen and practiced hand.
"Grab a few matches from by the stove and get a glass of water. The cupboard to the left of the sink," he instructs as he continues working.

"You finished this a lot sooner than I expected."

Cabal nods and leans out the door, taking off his right glove. He sharply whistles, waiting for the bird.
A few moments later, the familiar "kronk" is heard as the crow tumbles above the roof, giving a sloppy landing.
"Took you long enough." "Kronk!"
