the nautical melody

In the Kingdom Hearts fanfiction series IRTH (written by SinfulFox, aka [Shadow the Heartless]), Demyx makes his first appearance in the deserted town of Olehyo when he's given the assignment to destroy a Heartless that had supposedly wiped out the town as well as dozens of others, devouring the hearts of every single inhabitant. A creature of this strength and ruthlessness, as well as it's capacity to hold and devour so many hearts, was of course a high priority for the Organization to look into. If the Heartless could be controlled, Xemnas would be able to use the many hearts it collected in order to restore Kingdom Hearts that much faster. However, if it were unable to be controlled, then it would have to be destroyed before it became a true threat. Heartless however, were widely recognized as the inferior race to Nobodies, and the notion of a rogue Heartless that would defy a superior being was unheard of.

But of course, Kiara Nocturne, who would become known as Shadow, was capable of many things that were unheard of.

Fortunately for Demyx, who was one to shrink away from a battle unless it was absolutely necessary, the Heartless did not wish to fight him. She actually seemed child-like and playful, and even challenged him to a game. He had to hurry back to report to his Superior, but not before giving a polite farewell to his new friend. After this scene, he is not seen until many chapters later, when Shadow, Sora, Donald, and Goofy arrive in the Underworld.
