Now begins the story of Hide...Matsumoto Hideto (In U.S. we would call him Hideto Matsumoto.) was born on December 13, 1964. Hide was an outcast in school. Being a little overweight he was teased in school almost every day. His first passion was music. He started playing guitar around his high school days. He would go to school and play Kiss songs on guitar in the halls (he he). During his High School years he joined a band named "Saver Tiger". After being expelled from school for rebellious behaviour started playing in live houses with Saver Tiger. Members joined and left many times because of the high standards imposed on them by hide. When Saver Tiger failed...when hide was going to become a professional beautician...Yoshiki called him up one day to invite him to join the band X Japan. With X Japan hide had had 17 years of sucess with X Japan, but with X Japan hide could never really put his creative ideas to use. So in 1994, 3 years before X Japan ended, hide started a solo project. His solo career was short spanning only 4 years, but hide amazed everyone with his usual upbeat, fast guitar playing songs and sometimes soft, sad ballads. During his solo career he played with his bands Spread Beaver and Zilch. On May 2, 1998 Matsumoto Hideto was found hanging from a door with a towel around his neck...dead. Alot of fans were hospitalized for fainting and attempting suicide. Tens of thousands of grieving fans went to his public funerals to say goodbye to the one who had touched their hearts for many years. A memorial museum was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Japan in 2000. It is two stories high and over two thousand square meters of miscellaneous belongings, pictures, a small concert hall and a chapel. And that is the story of the legendary guitarist of Japan.
