Aerith is very kind to all things, whether people or nature. She always has a smile on her face, and is often the one who tries to brighten everyone's day. She also seems to have a deeper understanding of people and life in general and is therefore very compassionate toward even her enemies.
A dainty girl who lives in the Fifth Avenue slums with her foster mother, Aerith appears pure and innocent. Yet underneath her calm, insightful air is a turbulent and emotional past. Being the last member of the sacred race of Ancients, Aerith has found herself at the center of negative attention. She loses her father to Shinra and is held captive at twenty days old. At age seven, Aerith loses her biological mother. Aerith's positive attitude shows no sign of this tragic history nestled behind her pristine face. But destined to meet, Aerith and Zack become close companions.
After Zack falls through the church's ceiling, Aerith falls for him immediately. Although they can only see each other periodically, their thoughts keep them close in spirit. Aerith, however, never e-mails Zack because she doesn't own a cell phone. Aerith is extremely fond of flowers, but rarely gets to see them bloom due to the upper plate blocking the sky. Zack recommends that they should grow and sell flowers together, so they can not only fill the slums with flowers but all of Midgar.
Aerith would patiently wait for Zack's return. She would grow and sell her flowers, and take care of her adoptive mother. Every day she waited for his return; her mind filled with thoughts of him. After waiting for four years without seeing him, she sent her 89th, and last letter to him. He never came back..
After Zack's death, Aerith became alone. She continued to stay with her mother, taking care of her, selling flowers, and living her life, until one faithful day when she ran into Cloud. He fell through the roof of her church, just like Zack. Something about him reminded her of him. He protected her from Shinra and the Turks and kept her out of the hands of evil. She showered Cloud with love and affection in return.
The two experienced many fates together. Tragedy befell Aerith when she ran off without anyone knowing. After summoning the Great Gospel, Sephiroth killed her in one single blow of his sword. As Cloud laid her body into the water, she was released back into planet, and back into the lifestream. Her spirit was given back to Zack. The two watch over Cloud lovingly, and protect him through peace and war.
