Nearly two years, maybe? I don't keep count, and I switched accounts a while back.
I can't afford it often. I save up my money and buy my GC in big chunks that last me a long while. I mostly buy my cash items because I want them, though (or in the case of RIGs, because I like playing them). I can't afford to buy a bunch of bundles and just sell them. It's annoying when they come out with a really cool item I can't afford, but then I quest my a** off to get it. However, a lot of my most expensive things (talkin' Horns of the Demon, Winged Anklets, Golden Laurels, etc) are gifts from friends I've made. I realize that I'm extremely lucky in that regard, and I'm incredibly grateful. I also give them stuff when I can.
I know it sucks for people that can't afford cash, and that questing can, quite literally, be a pain (I booty-grabbed for over a week straight in the time before and during the Midsummer Swirl RIG, it hurt to move my elbow at all for quite some time afterward). But I speak from experience when I say it's not impossible.
If I can afford it, then maybe. As long as I still enjoy the site, can still access my account, and the friends I've made on it remain, then I'll stay. I've already spent more than that on GC since I joined.
