No. You will not lose your stuff, just take everything off...
To delete it go to "My Gaia" and let the options drop, then click "Account Settings" when the page shows up, go to the section where it tells about your avatar, there ish a part that says "Change your avators gender" if you read the writing after that there will be thing saying "You can delete your avatar" click that and you can change your eyes.
You will also be able to change your skin colour and hair...
NOTE: YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO KEEP YOUR HAIR STYLE! YOU WILL HAVE TO USE THE CHEAP ONES THAT THEY GIVE! YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY YOUR CURRENT HAIR AGAIN!

Go to account preferences
go down to the 'avatar gender' section and click 'deleting your charactor'
from there it tells you what to do
lemme know if that helps...

yes
you have to delete your avatar
but then you will loose any special skins you have and the hair you bought
