On Monday December 1 2008 at 7:30, the school bell rang at South Gate Middle school (in California; web :pointr:http://southgatems.org/). It was like any other regular day; the children at the school didn’t no what would hit them later that day.


   At 2:42 the children were released out of school & like most kids, were headed towards McDonalds which was right across the street from the school. Five kids were waiting at a bus stop. One girl & 4 other boys. One of the boys was talking to his mom on the phone at the bus stop. He was asking her if he could stay with his friends but his mother didn’t want him staying there.  Other kids were inside the McDonalds restaurant & some standing talkin to friends on the parking lot. As for me & my sister we were at the cafeteria in our after school program. 


	At 3:22 a large crash occurred. There were two people in the car, the man driving was 19 & the passenger was in his mid 20’s. A large old brown van lost control driving right into McDonalds hitting the five kids waiting at the parking lot.  Also knocking down the roof of the bust stop & knocking down the bus chair which laid on top of two boys. The roof of the bus stop landed on the girl’s stomach & the other boy’s leg was hit by the car. Then, while backing up, the van hit the cable box behind it (that controls the street lights), which fell on top of a boy named Luis Salazar.  The car then backed up hitting the street post.  The passenger managed to open the door & ran down Otis.  The driver was about to run after him but the people had stopped him before he could leave.  One boy named Raphael saw the whole thing collapsed on the floor hitting his head.  Me & my sister were safe in the school & saw the whole incident from the cafeteria gate.


	At 3:33 the ambulance had come. At 4:24 I, my sister, my friend & her father walked out of the school down Firestone.  Standing right across from the scene we all saw 6 bodies laying on the ground.  Luis who was under the box was in pain.  The incident left his right leg twisted & his right arm crippled.  His other body parts suffered from minor injuries. We watched him lay on the ground & his wounds were so bad that I could see his bones from his leg & arm. Luis’s leg was practically detached from his body. The girl was trapped on the floor with the roof of the bus stop on her stomach. Two other boys were laying under the bench & with a few minor injuries.  The bench had protect them from the car.  Another boy was hurt& only had a broken leg. 


	By 5:00 all children were taken to Saint Frances Medical Hospital.  Luis Salazar was taken to emergency surgery. As for me I stayed at the gasoline station across McDonalds, with my sister & friends watching the scene.  I was in shock yet calm.  I’ve seen death pass before my very eyes plenty of times & this was no different.  At 6:00 Luis Salazar was pronounced dead at Saint Frances hospital.  I was standing on the corner shocked that one of my fellow students had just passed away.  Silence passed.


	Around 7:00 I was interviewed by Fox 11 & A lady with the radio services.  I was confused & still in shock of what my eyes had seen.  By midnight the streets were cleaned & traffic was no more. As for the survivors of the crash, they stayed in the hospital & were released the next morning.


	The next day people cried over the news. People were interviewing friends.  Some cried to the point where they had to go to counseling. I paid my respects to the family & me & my family went to go to the church. I cried & so did my family. Even though I didnt get the chance to know you, we will always remember you . . .
