I made a funeral directing thread?
In other words, where people go to learn how to improve as they are aspiring to be artists.
And someone drawing anime chibi's may not aspire to be put into galleries, however the forum is still used to take artwork seriously. If serious artwork is not posted in there, then it shouldn't be there. If you don't believe me, read the sticky.
"Your complaints and points may be all relevant when we're for example, talking about a university student hack who is trying to charge money for commissions and producing crap like that.
But we're not, are we?
We're talking about some kid LEARNING how to draw."
A kid learning to draw STILL needs to LEARN THE BASICS.
It's like learning your ABC's before you can formulate a sentence.
Learning 123's before you go into studying algebra.
Learning the basics of anatomy is definitely a way to start if you are learning anime. Which goes onto my next point.
"It's anime ffs. It can be as disproportionate as it wants to be. That's really what separates cartoons from realism. And it's obvious she's not going for realism. >_>;; "
No. Wrong. People who draw cartoons, ESPECIALLY anime animators, go to EXTREME lengths to grasp human anatomy. Trust me, I've been in animation studios and behind the scenes of where the draw comics and cartoon characters. Hell, ask any professional cartoonist and they'll tell you exactly the same.
You know why? Because cartoons, or anime, are a DISTORTION of reality. They are NOT separate things. Especially in anime, the people have human looking faces, bodies, hands, legs, etc. They are BASED of anatomy.
If she's not going for realism, then she shouldn't be trying to grasp anime at all.
Ask any other serious artist, professional or even in that forum, and they'll say pretty much the same thing as myself.
And this is coming from personal experience as well as proven fact.
And as I say, the artwork in that forum is to be taken seriously, chibi doodles or otherwise.
If it's not to be taken seriously, and is only there to inflate her ego, then it doesn't belong there.
As stated in the rules, the forum is for works that have taken a long amount of time and effort to be critiqued.
It's simple!
*face desks repeatedly*
I'm sorry, but as someone who has given SO much time dedicated to life drawing, and considering that I'm at university to study animation, something that is HEAVILY INVOLVED with anatomy, that it just ******** bugs me when people draw figures and don't even know how joints and muscles work.
Also, I wouldn't say that person has a unique style going on, because there was nothing stylistic about it. The awkward joints were not on purpose, it's because she doesn't understand anatomy. I can guarantee she never went to a single life drawing class. Also, to even develop a style, you MUST know the basics! She doesn't know how to draw eyes, hence there is no style going on there. For instance, if an artist learns how to draw eyes, he/she can then develop his/her unique style to DRAW eyes.
And please don't be offended, but you can understand why it pisses me off that I've worked my a** off to get into university when people who draw crappy little doodles with no understanding of the basics tell me otherwise.
I've been taught by many great art teachers and tutors, and they all said the same thing I've said. And these are people who have degress in art, have had their art displayed in many galleries, etc etc.
And I'm not copying what the say because they are my tutors, I truly feel the same way. I used to draw crappy anime doodles with no understanding of anatomy, and I hated it when people said they looked crap, but at least it finally got me to realise I needed to imrpove. And since I have improved, I have developing my own style. I've had many wonderful comments about my work, and yet i feel I have so much room to improve.
I guess at the end of the day, art is still subjective to the person judging it, however you cannot dismiss the blatant fact that said artist that I was talking to earlier lacks any understanding of the body AND lacks proper control of the pencil. It's quite clear there is still room for imrpovement too.
Sorry if this sounds extremely rude, I don't want to offend you, but even if you still disagree with me, at least try and understand my position here.
im 16.lol
