Character Description
Kai can convey his emotions with only a look. And with his strong physical presence, everyone respects him… or else! Although Kai is a top-level competitor, he has always preferred to keep to the shadows rather than the bright lights of the Beystadium. He is probably the most serious character in beyblade. He is very cold and distant.
Kai grew up in an Abby in Russia, where he was raised as a tool for his grandfather's ambition to take over the world. The head recruiter of the Abby, Boris, saw potential in the young Kai. But Kai despised the life at the Abby, and after nearly burning the Abby down, by an accident, Kai runs away from it and starts to live with his grandfather. There he becomes the leader of the notorious, Bey-Sharks, and sets out to find the ultimate beyblade. That is when he meets Takao, and after their run in, Kai hates the site of him. Though Kai beats Takao first, their second battle ends up a draw, and their third battle turns into a fluky win by Takao. That is when Mr. Dickinson names Kai as the team captain of the Blade breakers. He first resents the duty of looking after Takao, Max, Rei, and Kyōju, but he slowly develops a sign of respect for his teammates, until he deserts them in Russia, to join his grandfather’s team. But later, he realizes just how much he missed his former teammates and rejoins them to take down his grandfather, and stop his evil plan of taking over the world, with his army of evil bit-beasts. Kai 's Bit Beast is Dranzer, the red phionex and he is the only one that seems to truely understand Kai. They share a strong and unique bond; Dranzer always come through for Kai. Their fighting style is fierce and they have a 'take no prisoners' mentality in the Beystadium.
In Japanese, "Kai Hiwatari" means : "Crossing over the fire" In German, it means "Port".
"Kai. That's my name. And I'm a beyblader. You might think that you are too, but you're not. You learned from the best but you forgot about a billion worth lesson, beyblading is not just about overpowering your opponent with fancy moves. That's only part of the game. There's more to it. Much more. That's why I have something you don't."
"I learned from every battle I've ever fought. Every friend, enemy and spectator has always had something to offer me. And I'm a student of this game and I always will be. Through the hards of training, competitions, the wins and losses, they all taught me something. And I'm taking this knowledge and use it to my advantage. That's why I can say that I'm a true beyblader. That's what keeps me going and that's my strength."
"I don't think you ever will because you're not a true blader. You have the power and the skill but something's missing from inside of you. You don't have the beyblading spirit!"
"That's why I have to win this battle because beyblading means more to me than you could ever understand. IT'S NOT JUST A GAME TO ME!"
"The only person who'll decide my path is ME. Nobody else!"
