Sanji is a sympathetic cook. He used to work in the restaurant Baratie (in the middle of the East Blue sea) before Luffy asked him to join their pirate adventures. Now Sanji is a part of their crew.
He was raised by a captain pirate called Red-Legged Zeff. When Sanji was 10, he and Zeff were deserted on a small island, forcing them to live for three months without any food supplies (Zeff's ship was destroyed by a huge storm at night). In the first minute they were deserted, Zeff gave little Sanji some food. But Zeff also had a big sack with him that he brought to the other side of the island. Sanji accused him of being greedy, of taking all the food for himself.
They waited for help to come, but none came to rescue them. After three months of starvation, Sanji (who was mad and planned to take food from Zeff) went to the other side of the island to see how Zeff was doing. Surprisingly, Zeff was skinny, and looked hungry. What surprised Sanji more, at least in the manga, was that Zeff lost his right leg!! Sanji cried in frustration, "You... you ate your own leg!!?"
However, in both the Japanese and English version of the anime, Zeff hadn't eaten his leg. Zeff actually lost his leg in an accident, when a tidal wave knocked two ships together and his leg got caught. Desperately wanting to save Sanji, he saw an anchor sinking and quickly grabbed it and wrapped it around his leg. The anchor knocked the boats together and freed him, cutting off his leg in the process.
Anyway, then Sanji checked the big sack Zeff had with him. It was filled with gold!! No food, no drink - Sanji was shocked at the fact that Zeff gave him all the food they had instead of keeping it for himself. Zeff told him he did that because they had the same dream: to find Great Blue (a legendary sea). Since that day, Sanji worked for Zeff in the restaurant Baratie as vice-chef.
Sanji likes girls- especially Nami. He protects Nami's tangerine garden on the ship and never lets anyone touch it. He often calls Nami heart "Nami-swan" heart

Well, Sanji is the cook of the ship Baratie. He loves to kick (because he's a cook and doesn't want to mess up his hands), and he has quite a few techniques. For example, he has one called the Jyare. In this technique he does an upwards kick to the opponent's shank which usually follows the Cuisseau. The Cuisseau is a kick to the thigh. Cuisseau is a french word that indicates a part of calf. Sanji uses words of the French kitchen for his attack Sanji started cooking at a young age and was very good at it.
He finds different and odd nicknames for his teammates. For example, he calls Nami heart "Nami Swan" heart . He also tends to smoke a lot and is rarely seen without a cigarette hanging from his mouth (in the US version, this was changed to a lollipop). Oh, and he also has the power to destroy 21 baseball bats with one kick. He also loves young women.
Sanji is the Straw Hat crew's chain-smoking chef, whose dream is to find 'All Blue', a legendary ocean which contains all the fish in the world. He takes great pride in the meals he makes and considers them works of art. Sanji is also a very skilled fighter, who uses a fictional martial arts style called 'Red Leg' that makes use of only kicks. Sanji states that this is because a chef's hands are his prized possession, and should not be risked in battle. He was trained by the once infamous pirate Red Leg Zeff, who was a chef himself. In battle, he typically manipulates things from off-panel and then appears in the front lines at a very crucial moment. This has led to a running gag in the series centering around Sanji never being recognized by the Straw Hats' enemies, a joke culminating in the release of his first wanted poster. Sanji was born in the North Blue, but grew up in the East Blue.
Nine years before the Straw Hats meet him, a young Sanji is working aboard a cruise ship as a trainee cook in the North Blue. Even at this early point in his life, he dreams of finding 'All Blue'. This makes him somewhat of an outcast among the other chefs, who regard the sea as nothing more than a myth. The cruise ship is attacked by pirate Zeff, and sinks during the ensuing battle. Sanji is rescued by Zeff, and they both wash onto the shore of a nearby island. With almost no food left, Zeff splits the remaining rations with Sanji, keeping a large sack for himself since, as he tells Sanji, he is an adult with a larger stomach. He tells Sanji to wait for a rescue ship on the other side of the island. Many weeks pass, and with Sanji having finished his rations much earlier, he decides to steal Zeff's food. He tells the old man not to interfere or he will kill him, and slashes the large sack of food open, only to discover that it's just a sack of treasure. Sanji then notices Zeff's missing leg, and realizes that Zeff ate it and gave him all the rations (this scene is altered in the anime so Zeff loses his leg while rescuing Sanji, and simply eats nothing while on the island). Sanji tearfully asks why Zeff would do such a thing, and Zeff explains to him that they share the dream of finding 'All Blue'. The two are rescued some time later, and Zeff uses his treasure to establish the Baratie, a floating restaurant in the East Blue with Sanji as his sous-chef.
